RE: Something wrong with Apple Watch and iPhone

2018-05-19 Thread Michael G McKay
Hi! Tom:

I would say that you might wish to check to find out if your iPhone, and Apple
watch are paired. If they are not synchronized correctly, then you may need to
re-pair the iPhone, and Apple Watch once again. Also, my tip concerning the
apple watch would be, always place your apple watch on charge each
evening/night before you go to bed, that way you will be able to keep it
powered up, and working properly.

Hope this helps.

Good evening,
I am not sure what happened, but my apple watch is no longer in sync with my
iPhone. I accidently left it without charging for several days and when I
returned and was able to charge it, it must have somehow gotten reset or
something. It no longer knows who I am via Siri, and my text messages come
through but it's as if the contacts aren't synced because I get phone numbers
instead of names. What might have happened and how can I get it back to be in
sync with my phone and contacts?
Tom

Re: Dictating new phone contact.

2018-05-19 Thread Richard Turner
The three finger double tap does not unload VoiceOver, it just turns off
speech, but you still would have to use the gestures of VoiceOver like double
tapping to activate something.
If you ever need to unload VoiceOver, just tell Siri to "turn off VoiceOver"
and when you want it back, just tell Siri "turn on VoiceOver."

Re: Seeing AI Product Channel demo

2018-05-19 Thread Richard Turner
If you have a fairly new iPhone SE it is likely running iOS 11, but you can go
to settings, general, about and read through all that and find out for sure.
The current version is 11.3.1.

There is also a handwriting channel that is kind of amazing. If you get a card
or something which is handwritten, with the handwriting channel, you can take a
picture of it, and it does a surprisingly good job.
There are money identification apps that do only that if you get tired of
having to flick to the currency channel. EyeNote is one, or Money Reader.

Hi Carolyn,

If you have iOS 11, and at least a 5s, the product channel is there. The way
Seeing AI works is that it has what it calls channels. The channel picker is
just above the home button.

The first time you use the app, there will be an explanation of each channel
when you flick to it, and you will have to close that preview to get to the
next channel. This is only the first time through.

Then when you touch the channel picker, and for example, it says Short Text,
you flick up with one finger to document, then product, etc.

I hope that gets you started. It is simply the best app for a variety of
uses. I use it for any product bar codes, or for scanning text.

Richard

Not sure, but am guessing you would have to unlock. Would turning off
voiceover solve the problem then turning it back on when he is done?

If I do that, would it have to be unlocked to get it into Landscape? I have

If you go at the top of your screen, where it should say the time you do a
three finger flick down and it should put you in the notification area, then
you keep flicking right until you here lock orientation.

Agree with him. Carolyn, if you haven't done it already, you may find it
helpful to lock the orientation on your phone. It just keeps controls in
the same view, portrait or landscape. Until I did that, I was literally
all over the phone and getting frustrated that none of the controls were
ever in the same place smile!!

Hi Carolyn, I think you have to get in to the field first and then dictate
the info for that field. So, if you wanted to enter someone's last name,
you would have to flick right till you find "last name" field. When u
find it, do a single finger double tap then activate the dictation button,
say name, and deactivate dictation button. Make sense?

Thank you, Kitty. I did finally get it on with help from a nice lady,
Regina at Apple Accessibility. Now, here's what I'm not getting is when I
press it, do I say first or first and last name; then do I double tap?
Then can I dictate the number or dial it? Thanks, Kitty.

Hi Carolyn, Just wanted to introduce myself and help you get dictation
going. I am Kitty in cincinnati oh. I have bee using iphone since sept
or oct. It sounds like you are getting the “enable dictation” error
because dictation is not turned on. To enable it, open settings and
double tap on general. From there, swipe or flick right till you come to
keyboard.
Double tap on it. Move to the right till u see enable dictation. Double
tap on it. Once it has been enabled, it will stay on till u change the
setting. Let me know how it works for you.

find something. My friend said her phone did not say that.

Hi Carolyn,

If you have iOS 11, and at least a 5s, the product channel is there.
The way Seeing AI works is that it has what it calls channels. The channel
picker is just above the home button.

The first time you use the app, there will be an explanation of each
channel when you flick to it, and you will have to close that preview to get to
the next channel. This is only the first time through.

Then when you touch the channel picker, and for example, it says Short
Text, you flick up with one finger to document, then product, etc.

I hope that gets you started. It is simply the best app for a variety
of uses. I use it for any product bar codes, or for scanning text.

Richard

Hello,

I did a short recording of a demonstration of the Seeing AI
Product Channel.

What I didn’t say in the recording is that when you hear the
first beep from your device, slowly turn the item you are attempting to
identify until the beeps become faster and steady. Then, slowly move the item
closer to the device and when you are between 4 and 6 inches from the device,
you should get results.

Re: Seeing AI Product Channel demo

2018-05-19 Thread Richard Turner

It is simply the best app for a variety of uses.
I use it for any product bar codes, or for scanning text.

HTH,

Richard

Hello,

I did a short recording of a demonstration of the Seeing AI Product Channel.

What I didn’t say in the recording is that when you hear the first beep from
your device, slowly turn the item you are attempting to identify until the
beeps become faster and steady. Then, slowly move the item closer to the
device and when you are between 4 and 6 inches from the device, you should get
results.

Actually, after touching in the status bar where the clock is located, then go
to the bottom of the screen and do a 3 finger flick up.
This will open the control center. Then just swipe right until you hear lock

Oh yes, what if you need to get it in Landscape? Do you have to go and unlock
it?

Best regards,

Carolyn

Agree with him. Carolyn, if you haven't done it already, you may find it
helpful to lock the orientation on your phone. It just keeps controls in the
same view, portrait or landscape. Until I did that, I was literally all over
the phone and getting frustrated that none of the controls were ever in the
same place smile!!

Hi Carolyn, I think you have to get in to the field first and then dictate the
info for that field. So, if you wanted to enter someone's last name, you would
have to flick right till you find "last name" field. When u find it, do a
single finger double tap then activate the dictation button, say name, and
deactivate dictation button. Make sense?

Hello.
I have noticed that while in a group of messages, and I flick down to delete
a group of messages, and then respond to the delete confirmation, I am
placed back at the Edit button at the top left of the screen, instead of
focus being in the list of messages right where I left off.

Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?
Thanks.

Make sense?

I am Kitty in cincinnati oh. I have bee using iphone since sept or oct. It
sounds like you are getting the “enable dictation” error because dictation is
not turned on. To enable it, open settings and double tap on general. From
there, swipe or flick right till you come to keyboard.
Double tap on it. Move to the right till u see enable dictation. Double tap

Let me know how it works for you.

Also, you cannot dictate the phone number, you will have to enter it manually.
Also, when in editing mode in a field, a two finger double tap will begin
dictation and the same gesture will stop dictation.

Kicking an enhanced male voice

2018-05-19 Thread danielmcgee134

Hi all
Please take into account that I wear two hearing aids before beginning this
question.
Ok so I am looking for an enhanced male voice to use just for a change. I
currently use Daniel default.
My choices are: Daniel, Tom or Alex. However, I just can't decide. I try each
for a while, thinking that: yes, this is the one that I'll use. Then I switch
and find another reason to prefer one of my other choices.
Pronunciations I think is where the issue is happening for me. For instance,
Alex is good at reading but to my ears, Tom is better at not saying words
incorrectly. If that makes sense.
Does anyone have any tips in getting use to another voice?

Hi Janet.
If you use iTunes, you can still sync Ringotnes to your phone, but it
is different with the latest iTunes.

If you have the old iTunes, all you need to do is enter on the
ringtone file, which should have the extension m4r and be less than
forty seconds, and it will play in iTunes. Then, when you sync your
phone, it will show up in the Sounds settings.

If you have the newest iTunes version, hook your phone up, hit the
space bar on the button iPhone when you tab around, then tab forward
until you get to the device list. Down arrow to Tones and enter on
that. If you tab forward, you will come to an empty field which will
say Tones Header. Stay on that field and copy and paste the ringtone
file into that field. The rest should work the same.

Hope this helps.

It’s amazing to think how much information we entrust our phones with.
From photos of amazing life events, to specific songs that bring
memories rushing back, the sentimental value of our data is massive.

How worrying then, that we store it on a device that’s so prone to
breaking. Throughout its life a phone faces many dangers, from wet
weather to drops onto hard surfaces that can leave them completely
inoperable.

You shouldn’t take that risk when it comes to your data, and regularly
backing it up is a routine you should absolutely have. Just a couple
of minutes spent every week will mean that if the worst should happen,
you’ll still have access to all those memories that you’ve spent years
accumulating on your device.

iTunes works in a pinch if you want to keep a copy of your files, but
for our tutorial today we’re going to be using WinX MediaTrans
. It’s a very versatile piece of
software that allows you to easily backup your music (other file types
such as photos, videos, ringtones, voice memos and ebooks are also
supported), and includes a range of features to keep your files in
good condition, including allowing you to easily edit artist and album
info.

So without further ado, here’s how to transfer your music to a computer.

  1. Free Download WinX MediaTrans

There are two versions of WinX MediaTrans available, a free version
and a premium version. Upgrading to the premium version
 (lifetime licenses)
allows you to transfer unlimited files per day and also unlocks a host
of other features such as allowing you to remove DRM from tracks
.
You'll also benefit from improved performance in lifetime free upgrade.

*We’re going to use the free version of the program for this
tutorial*but you’re free to upgrade at a later date if you want to use
its expanded features. The company offers a 30-day refund program if
you’re not completely satisfied with your purchase.

Head on over to the official website
 and click the ‘Free Download’
link to get the installer, and then run it to get the program
installed on your PC.

You’ll see a page prompting you to plug your iPhone into your
computer, so do so now. You’ll need to tell your phone to trust your
computer to continue, and you might have to enter your passcode to
prove it’s you.

At this point the software will disable auto-sync on iTunes to prevent
the program from automatically erasing your data. Remember to
re-enable this later if it’s a feature that you use. You’ll also have
to close iTunes at this point (if you do not have iTunes on your
computer, then this window won't pop up).

  4. Transfer your music selectively or in a batch

Any music stored locally on your iPhone will be auto-detected and
shown in the MediaTrans window.

Check that the track details are all accurate (if not you can change
them by hovering over the file and clicking the ‘Edit Music’ button),
and once you’re ready it’s now a simple process to tick the boxes next
to any songs you want to transfer to your computer. Select ‘Export’
from the row of icons on the top, and then click ‘Continue’ on the
next screen.
