So much for keeping my iPhone 6S Plus for another year or two

2018-11-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Well, my main employee/store manager who has the same plan from the same
carrier, Koodo Mobil, here in Canada just told me he was about to upgrade his
iPhone 6 because they were offering a really good deal on the iPhone 8 64 Gb.
I had a look and my wife and I decided this was too good of an opportunity to
pass up so we have also ordered our iPhone 8, Gold for y wife and Space Grey
as usual for me.

For others here in Canada, here is the deal, this is from our perspective as
already existing Koodo customers:
We pay $150 (Canadian of course) up front
Koodo then bills us an extra $15 per month on top of what we pay for our plan
for a period of 2 years, i.e. $15 for 24 months = $360.
After the 2 years our monthly charge goes back to what we pay now which is $49
for 6Gb of data and unlimited Canada wide calling and texting + regular voice
mail, visual voice mail would be $2/month extra.
Total cost for the iPhone 8 64Gb after 2 years is $510 Canadian.

I just looked in the Apple Store app and if I were to buy an iPhone 8 64Gb
directly from Apple it would cost $820 Canadian which means we get it for $310
less.
Of course we can sell my wife's 6S 64Gb and my 6S Plus 64Gb, both had new
batteries installed by Apple 6 months ago and are cosmetically virtually
pristine with glass screen protectors and always in a slim but good protective
case.
I had a look on eBay and I have seen mostly prices of around $300 Canadian for
the 6S and $400 for the 6S Plus, even if we sell for a total of $500 for both
phones that means it covers the $300 initial up front payment for the new
phones and it leaves at least enough for 6 months of payments out of the 2
years for both of us.
This means ultimately the new iPhone 8 will have cost me maybe $250 give or
take $10 or $20. One factor why we decided to go for this deal is also that I
though while in a year there might be a similarly good deal the value of our 6S
and 6S Plus phones would be quite a bit less after another year.

I also scored some good deals on some wireless charging pads since apart from
the better water proofness of the iPhone 8 the wireless charging is probably
the feature I like the most.
I could have gotten an iPhone XR for $550 + the $15 a month, a total of $910
after two years, but that isn't as much less as if I had bought one outright
and we just didn't feel like spending that much. The iPhone 8 should do us for
at least 3 to 4 years now just as our 6S phones did and by then OLED screens,
Face Id will be old and established features and who knows, the phones in 3
years may even have Face Id in addition to Touch Id which works wherever you
touch the screen.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: Changing An Old Apple Id.

2018-11-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you are talking about an app update I assume the problem is that you may
have originally purchased or downloaded the app with the old Apple Id. If you
know what app it is I would simply delete it and redownload it and all should
be good.

Hi All,

Ok, I followed the instructions by signing out, and signing back in, and that
was successful. I am still getting the same message though. On the home
screen, it says there is one update available. So I go in to the setting's app,
and tap on the update Apple id settings. It says I have to sign in to update
my Apple id settings, or some services will not be available until I sign in
again. When I tap on the update Apple id, I'm asked to sign in using my
password, so I enter my password, I then get a message saying wrong password,
and then I get a message saying I need to enter my Apple id and password, but I
don't get an edit field to enter my Apple id just a field to enter my password.
Although, I did enter my Apple id in the only edit field, as well as my
password, but I still get the same message saying wrong password. This is
crazy. Any other suggestions?

Thank you all so much.

I'm really lost on this one.

Janet

RE: Question re Uber and Lyft apps

2018-11-24 Thread R Van Lant
I tried this feature with Uber a month ago. I needed to take my kids to school
and tried to schedule the ride about 20 minutes prior to when I wanted to be
picked up. After waiting about 15 minutes with no driver accepting my request,
I cancelled the request and did a regular request and got a right pretty much
right away. It could have been a fluke that someone came on in the time it
took me to cancel and do a new request. Maybe this feature works well if you
do it further in advance than the 20 minute window I gave, but I was certainly
left dubious about it.

Hello Donald,
Both apps have a mechanism by which you can schedule a trip in
advance, but as Andy stated, the feature could be market specific. In
the Uber app, the feature for me appears right after the where to
button, and in the Lyft app, the feature appears after I have already
placed the destination and pick up in.

Re: Changing an old Apple id.

2018-11-24 Thread Donna
Janet,

Try entering the password that you use to unlock your iPhone. When installing
IOS updates the iPhone will restart once the update is complete. If you have a
passcode set for restrictions it may be requesting that passcode be entered. My
guess is it wants your unlock password though. If you have forgotten the
password to your first iTunes username; when logged out of all iTunes accounts,
enter the old iTunes user email & swipe to I Forgot. You should have had to
setup secret questions when originally setting up the old iTunes account. You
will be given 2 of the questions, just type in their answer. If the questions
are answered correctly, you will be prompted to enter a new password &
confirm the new password.

RE: Package tracking apps no longer working for me

2018-11-24 Thread Alan Lemly
Robin,

Thanks for the reply. I was able to successfully add a UPS package to ShipRack
that was originally rejected by selecting the shipper manually and then adding
the tracking number. I still am unable to track packages that Amazon ships
using what I believe is a special arrangement with the US Postal Service. These
tracking numbers begin with a TBA followed by several numerical digits and I've
never successfully tracked these with any tracking app.

Hi Sir,

I have noticed Shiprack running a bit slower but no can’t reproduce the unknown
number here. Sometimes I do notice that Parceltrack doesn’t AutoDetect the
carrier so if I tap on courier and then just select it and then save it seems
happier.

I totally understand wanting to track especially this time of the year. Have
you tried manually selecting the courier in Parceltrack? I also after pasting
the number in review by character to make sure there’s nothing extraneous at
the end like any tabs or spaces. That seems to make it happier as well.

Hi List,

I'm wondering if anyone else using package tracking apps is having the same
issue I'm experiencing. I use both ParcelTrack and ShipRack but the past few
shipments I've tried tracking with either app return an unknown carrier after I
paste in the tracking number. When this happens, I'm unable to track the
package with the app. I've gotten this on shipments handled by FedEx, UPS, and
the US Postal Service. I really like tracking my packages especially during
this time of year when packages have a better chance of being misappropriated
from one's porch.

Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue or does anyone know what's causing
it? I'm very careful inputting the tracking info into the apps and always copy
and paste the tracking numbers.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: An Overcast Question

I did not find that option anywhere in settings, so I wrote the developer

He is a one-man operation, so I do not know if he will have time to reply, but
I'd suggest others write with the request if you want that feature and see what

Re: Does any one stil use iTunes to listen to internashional radio stations

2018-11-24 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Judy,

Just create a new playlist, then in the internet radio section, find the one
you want to add and do Cmd-c to copy its address to the clipboard. Go to the
playlist and paste it in with Cmd-v.
Cheers,

Anne

Hi, go to notification settings and find the show preview button and double
tap. You will have 3 options. Always, when unlocked, and never. You will want

Notifications on new iPhone

2018-11-24 Thread joedinero68
Good Afternoon everyone,

So I took advantage of Black Friday and replaced my 6S with an XR. My first
issue outside the issue where iTunes is not playing very nicely with the
new phone so I can do a restore is that when I see notifications on the lock
screen it just reads the name of the app that notification is from but not
the actual notification. For example it will just read that there is a text
message from someone, however, it will not actually read the message unless
I unlock the screen and go into the app. Where do I change that?
Notifications settings or VoiceOver? in

Changing An Old Apple Id.

2018-11-24 Thread janet gross

Janet

The share with “friends” is a button. If you tap on it a drop down menu will
appear. Here you can choose to who to share the post with.

I have also seen where one has to choose with whom to share the post with
before opening the edit field & writing a post.

even though, I tried entering my Apple id as well as my password, it still says

Signed out of both iTunes and iCloud on your iPhone. Then try to sign back in
again. Another option is to clear you’re cache. The last suggestion would be
to call Apple accessibility. Unfortunately, there is no way to merge you’re old
and new Apple ID. Concerning iTunes, you should just be able to sign out on the
PC. If not, ensure your library is backed up, uninstall then reinstall iTunes.

Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to remove an old email Apple id from an iPhone 6. The reason I want
to remove it is because on my old phone 6, I keep getting a message to update
my Apple id settings, but when I enter my current password in order to update,
I get a message saying wrong password, because it is asking me to update to an
old Apple id, and I have no idea what that password was because I haven't used
that password in over 3 years. I was quite surprised to see this as well.
Matter of fact, I have the exact same problem with iTunes on my Pc, and that is
the reason I can't use iTunes on my Pc because I don't remember the old
password. I'm not even sure how or when all these changes came about, or
unless when I changed my Apple id 3 years ago, and I didn't update certain
settings. I'm not sure. I also can see on the phone my current Apple id as
well, so this is rather confusing. In short, I don't remember the password to
the old Apple id as I said I haven't used that for at least 3 years. I've had
several problems with my old phone 6, and this could very well be at least one
of the problems, or maybe the culprit. LOL! Now, the question, can I change
the old Apple id to my current Apple id, just so I don't have to start changing
all these Apple id's and passwords? If that makes any sense!
This is getting to be quite annoying.
Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

An Overcast Question

2018-11-24 Thread Earle 

I recently became an Overcast user. For the most part I am happy with it.

I do have a question. How can I see how many un-played episodes a
podcast has? When I am on the main screen of Overcast I see all of my
podcasts. I don't see any way of seeing how many un-played episodes they
have, or how many new episodes there are. When I used Downcast this
information was readily available. I see an all episodes play list. I'm
assuming this is a built-in default play list. Any help would be
appreciated.

Re: Changing an old Apple id.

2018-11-24 Thread Hope Paulos
Signed out of both iTunes and iCloud on your iPhone. Then try to sign back in
again. Another option is to clear you’re cache. The last suggestion would be
to call Apple accessibility. Unfortunately, there is no way to merge you’re old
and new Apple ID. Concerning iTunes, you should just be able to sign out on the
PC. If not, ensure your library is backed up, uninstall then reinstall iTunes.

Flicktype and more questions

2018-11-24 Thread 'Martin Maidment' via VIPhone
Hi All

Yes there was an add button but a lot further down.

However, I now have sussed it and it's working great.

Their website isn't massively clear when it comes to instructions.

For example when you click on the link for details about upgrading and the
benefits the link doesn't work.

Okay so people how do you dismiss the flicktype keyboard after typing. I
think it's a one finger flick up. But it does say there is a dismiss
button. Where is it?

When you are in message and have typed your message what is the best way of
getting to the send button.

Also, in settings there is something about the control keys on the row of
the spacebar. What does this mean.

I think the app is brilliant but they could write their instructions a lot
clearer.

I have no vision so I'm totally relying on voiceover.

Thanks all.

Re: a question about favorite radio apps

2018-11-24 Thread Arlene
Steve, thanks. We did get the radio.com app, and the other app we got tonight
was th otr app, which I had forgotten to mention in the other message about
the radio apps we got. I can't remember now, which app it was but I was
disappointed that either radio.com or tunein didn't get some of the new york
stations, but with having some of the other apps, I think it was both iheart
and ootunes both got some of the new york stations I tried, so that was great
to find. So as one person was saying on here it's good to have more than one of
these apps. With having about 5 of these apps only for 2 days, it gets a bit
confusing what I was able to hear from which one. We deleted simple radio, but
we're in the process of getting that again and give it another chance, it just
had so many commercials.

  That's radio.com. Listen on-air and you'll hear lots of stations say "a
radio.com station."

The thing is, everybody is on different platforms.

For US if you want access to all the different groups different stations,
you’ll need iHeartRadio, Radio.com, TuneIn radio, and maybe the Radio Puffs app.

Yes. Everybody wants you to use their own app.

You have to actually know which group owns which station to know which app to
launch.

I’m a radio geek, and I have to think of this. This can do nothing but
confuse anybody normal.

And I don’t know every market in this country!!

Thank you, Janet, and everyone else concerning the radio apps. As I was
saying there was a radio app that I had heard about that was just called radio,
and when we searched the app store we found radio.com and radio.net. We did try
radio.com, but we weren't too crazy about it. Maybe we'll look into radio.net.
The radio.com app is free. It would be great to find an app that you could go
to different radio stations, not just locally, but all over the world, as you
could do on the computer with sites like radio locator. I was just wondering if
there are any free radio apps where you could go to radio stations, as you can
on tune in and now I can't think of the other app that will do that? The
radio.com does have podcasts too, if anyone would like to try it, so that part
was interesting too. thank you.

Is this an app or is that a website. The body of your message said
radio.com. Is that how you search for it in the App Store? Or is there some
other way?

  HI Arlene and All,

I have the app radio.ccom, and I listen to that everyday. With that app
you can select which news station you want to listen to, and it has several
different stations to pick from. That app also has different music stations
as well, and also has sport stations. I downloaded it from the app store. You
can always download it to try it, from the app store, and if you don’t like it,
you can just delete it from your phone.

I've heard about the radio app just called radio, but in searching for it
there's a radio.net and a radio.com, so I don't know which one that it was that
I heard about, where you could go to different radio stations. It would be
interesting to hear about other favorite radio apps. Thank you.
