Learn how to add VoiceOver, Assistive Touch, Guided Access, and more to your Control Center for easy access.

2019-05-01 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

Apple recently posted the following article to Twitter; so I thought I"d
pass it along.

Mark

Learn how to add VoiceOver, Assistive Touch, Guided Access, and more to your
Control Center for easy access.

About the Accessibility Shortcut for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Learn how to add VoiceOver, Assistive Touch, Guided Access, and more to your
Control Center for easy access. And use triple-click to quickly access
frequently used Accessibility features.

Use the Side button
If you have an iPhone X or later, you have a Side button instead of a Home
button. Follow these steps:
. To set up Accessibility Shortcut: Go to Settings > General >
Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut, then select the features that you
use the most.
. To use Accessibility Shortcut: Triple-click the Side button.
. To slow down the double-click or triple-click speed for the Side
button: Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Side Button.

Use the Home button
. To set up Accessibility Shortcut: Go to Settings > General >
Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut, then select the features that you
use the most.
. To use Accessibility Shortcut: Triple-click the Home button.
. To slow down the double-click or triple-click speed for the Home
button: Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button.

Use Control Center
. To customize Control Center: Go to Settings > Control Center >
Customize Controls, then tap next to accessibility features such as
Accessibility Shortcuts, Magnifier, Hearing Aids, Touch Accommodations, and
Guided Access.
. To activate an accessibility feature from Control Center: Open
Control Center, then tap the accessibility feature.

You can also use iTunes to manage the Accessibility features on your device.
Follow these steps:
1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to any computer with iTunes
installed.
2. In iTunes, select your device.
3. From the Summary pane, click Configure Accessibility in the Options
section at the bottom.
4. Select the feature that you want to use and click OK.

To learn more about the accessibility features and how to use each one,
refer to the Accessibility section of the user guide for your iOS device.

Subject: RE: Any Tips on Using the Zoom Cloud Meeting App, for iOS?

Mark,

I'm a big fan of the Zoom Cloud Meetings app as we use it for the various
programs hosted by Accessible World. I wrote an overview of Zoom last September
when Accessible World switched to it and you can access and download that
overview here:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/29pj8jzh1i2d59b/Zoom%20cloud%20meetings%20overview_2018-08-27.htm?dl=0

That overview is done from an Accessible World point of view but it is marked
up with headings and you should find it easy to navigate in order to read the
sections of interest.

I would urge you to set up your free Zoom account so you'll be identified by
name whenever you attend a Zoom meeting using the app. I haven't noticed spam
email from Zoom since setting up my account although they do send out notices
from time to time regarding free meetings about using the Zoom product.

As far as tips for using the app, I'm a big fan of getting the meeting ID and
entering it in the app as opposed to executing a meeting link. I've just found
the former process to be more straightforward and successful for me. When I
launch the app, 4 buttons are near the top of the screen and are New Meeting,
Join, Schedule, and Share Screen. I always double tap the Join button, am
placed in the meeting ID text box, and input the meeting ID using the on screen
keypad presented in the bottom third of the screen. If you regularly attend the
same meetings, a meeting history button on this join screen will provide you
with a picker list of past meetings through which you can scroll to pick a
previously attended meeting. Finally, after I've joined an in-process meeting,
I always execute the participants button on the bottomline menu because it
gives me a list by name or phone number of those signed into the meeting.
Voiceover works very well with this app and I've had no accessibility issues.

I hope the above is helpful but post back if you have more questions.

Hello Everyone,

I just downloaded the Zoom cloud meeting app, for iOS.

As I have never used a cloud meeting app, before, I would appreciate any tips
for using it with VoiceOver.

What do I need to get started, just an email address?

I hope this is not another one of those apps that begins to spam you with
unsolicited emails, once you sign up for a quote, free, quote, account.

Thank you,

Re: Any Tips on Using the Zoom Cloud Meeting App, for iOS?

2019-05-01 Thread Richard Turner

Mark,
I think you will be pleased.
The only things they mail you are offers for training on the app, and a few
sales attempts to get you to sign up for a premium account; but they aren't bad.
It is by far the easiest and best meeting app on the planet!
I work for a State agency and because it is completely accessible on all
platforms, they switched from Go To Meeting; to Zoom and for a premium account
allowing up to 100 participants in a meeting was about the same price.
For an individual, you can have one-on-one meetings for unlimited length of
time for free.
And group meetings for 40 minutes for free.
It is pretty straight forward. Take it for a spin and see what you think.

Well, it looks like I’ll have to make a call to Spectrum, then. I am
presuming all of us in each apartment have different account numbers even
though the complex is paying for a certain level of service, as in theory you
could upgrade to another level. I could be wrong about this, though.

I actually had a situation where I was suddenly be charged extra for a
certain type of box, and had the box changed so I wouldn’t have that extra fee,
and even got a more user friendly remote. They charged me for that change,
though, which I didn’t care for, so I ended up paying some money to save money.

I am thinking that perhaps you can only set up an account if you are the one
paying the bill.

If the app gets the sign on information from your spectrum modem then you can
only use it when you are in range of that particular modem. That is the way my
husband‘s iPhone is set up.

I set mine up by putting in the user name and password and I can use it even
when there is no spectrum available.

My only complaint about the app is that I like to use the live TV tab to pick
what to watch. I have not found a way to turn off the video sound so that I can
hear the voiceover reading the other choices. Very aggravating but usable .

a few questions on att accessibility

2019-05-01 Thread Yohandy Rodriguez

Hey all,

So I'm switching over to att tomorrow, and I had a question. Does att,
like comcast's Xfinity, have accessible apps and tv boxes? With Comcast,
we have talking xfinity box, and the app aren't bad when it comes to
voiceover navigation. however I can't really check anything on att's
side as I don't have the installation ready yet. I'm only subscribed to
internet now, but who knows, I'll probably end up trying their tv and
phone services if their internet is good. DO you guys recommend them for
phone and tv service? if so, should I go with directtv, or u-verse for
the tv portion? thanks in advance for any help. tc all.

RE: Setting up Spectrum TV app

2019-05-01 Thread Bill Outman
Well, it looks like I’ll have to make a call to Spectrum, then. I am presuming
all of us in each apartment have different account numbers even though the
complex is paying for a certain level of service, as in theory you could
upgrade to another level. I could be wrong about this, though.

I actually had a situation where I was suddenly be charged extra for a certain
type of box, and had the box changed so I wouldn’t have that extra fee, and
even got a more user friendly remote. They charged me for that change, though,
which I didn’t care for, so I ended up paying some money to save money.

Re: IPhone Email questions

2019-05-01 Thread J.Cyr
Peter, thank you for the detailed instructions. You do understand my problem,
unfortunately I just tried your solution and I haven't been able to make it
work, that is the "trash" button is still "dimmed" when I put the voice over
back on and attempt to delete. However, I'm still not an experienced tapper
(or tap and holder) so I will try again and ask someone else to give it a go
when I have a chance. Considering my volume of mail (before duplicate and
triplicate downloads) I really do need to get that feature functioning. (Even
more so if I can't stop downloading messages that have theoretically been
deleted from the server.)

Again, Thank you for the help,
Joy

IPhone Email questions

2019-05-01 Thread peter bosher
Hi All,

Joy asked how to delete all messages in your inbox in one go.

Until IOS 9 this was easy.  Now it's difficult, but possible. Here's how:

1. from your inbox, double-tap Edit.

2. Mark all.

3. Mark as read.

4. Edit (again)

5. select top message.

6. VoiceOver off.

7. tap and hold Move (just above home button), and while holding,
single-tap the top message again.

8. VoiceOver back on.

9. if successful, it will show a number of messages selected, and you
choose Trash to move them there.

This solution took a lot of research and help, because I quite often
need to do this, but if anyone knows an easier way, then you win a
virtual chocolate frog, and God Bless Apple.

Best,

Peter
