Re: What 3words, The app that can save your life

2019-08-16 Thread Donna
Im totally blind. How does a person who is totally blind select where they are
on the map??? GPS on the device finds the person & the person selects on the
map what is the closest to them. With this info the 3 words are displayed. My
14y/o described the app like above.

Couldnt convince her to leave her swing perch, to see if the 3 words would
change if she were to go inside.

RE: What 3words, The app that can save your life

2019-08-16 Thread Deb Cook Lewis
I have been playing with this and I don’t think the words change.

GPS on the phone is not entirely accurate. I can tell this better on my Android
phone than on my Iphone. But basically, my location is varying slightly even
when I don’t move because of the changing accuracy of GPS. I think if I go to
an outside location it will be more consistent. But what I find is that old
words still get me here. So although my words appear to change, the original
words still yield close to my location. Just like with GPS sometimes it puts me
next door and sometimes here. So I think any words it gives you will get
someone close. And I think if you’re outdoors it will be closer. So I’m going
to declare my words the ones in front of my house even if in my room they’re
different and also more changing.

On the web site they talk about putting your words on your web site or on a
sign. And if this is the address system for some place, then they numbers do in
fact have to be static. Everything I reads indicate they are static, so I think
it’s the accuracy of GPS.

It’s hard for us because when you put your address in, they still want you to
pick a square which we can’t do.

This is beautifully accessible with VoiceOver. I was approved for an early
look at the card and it’s fantastic! The accessibility is the biggest
feature for me. Not all bank websites/apps are accessible. Apple really
makes the experience of using and paying your card enjoyable.

The look of your Apple Card is always changing.
Jason Cipriani/CNET
Earlier this week, Apple began sending out invites for its newest product,
the Apple Card. The preview period will only last a few more weeks, as
Apple

plans to launch its new credit card later in August.

Apple's approach to mobile payments can be confusing, considering it now
offers Apple Pay, Apple Cash and Apple Card, which are different services
that work in similar, yet different ways. (CNET's Jessica Dolcourt does a
fantastic job of breaking down the differences.)
With the Apple Card, Apple took a new approach to how users interact with
and manage a credit card. From a simple sign-up process to viewing your
spending habits, earning Daily Cash and paying your bill -- everything
Apple

Card-related is done on your iPhone.
Video: Apple Card FAQ: What you need to know

I was able to get an invite for the preview, and after reading through the
fine print, I decided to sign up.

How to sign up
For the next few weeks, Apple is slowly rolling the Apple Card via a
preview

program. If you signed up to be notified of its launch, then you have a
chance of getting randomly selected to participate. The Apple Card will
fully roll out in the US by the end of August, meaning preview invites
will

no longer be required. Make sure your iPhone ($1,000 at Amazon) is running
iOS 12.4 before you try to sign up.

Signing up for an Apple Card takes under a minute.

The sign-up process is the same, whether you receive an invite or wait for
the full launch:
1.
Open the Wallet app on your iPhone.
2.
Tap the + button in the top right corner.
3.
If you see a screen explaining what Apple Pay is, tap Continue.
4.
Select Apple Card from the list of available payment methods.
5.
Apple fills out most of the sign-up form for you using your Apple ID
information. You'll need to confirm the information, add the last four
digits of your social security number, enter your annual income and accept
the Apple Card terms and conditions.
6.
Once you're done, you'll receive an offer with what your credit limit and
interest rate will be. Tap Accept Apple Card to open your Apple Card
account. Select No Thanks if you change your mind.

Once you accept the offer, you'll be asked if you want to set Apple Card
as
your default card. If you select Use as Default Card your Apple Card will
be

triggered for all contactless payments, and your Apple payment source for
the Apple Store (apps, movies, subscriptions) will be changed to use the
Apple Card.
Lastly, during the sign-up process, you're asked if you want to receive a
physical Apple Card in the mail for use in places that don't have
contactless payment systems. If you don't want a physical card right now,
you can always request one later on.

There are multiple ways to pay with your Apple Card.
Using your Apple Card
Immediately after opening your Apple Card account, you'll have a digital
version of the card available in Apple Pay. You can begin using it to make
purchases right away -- I bought some coffee at Starbucks just a few
minutes

after setting my account up.

The process for using your Apple Card through Apple Pay is the same as
it's

always been: Place your phone near a payment terminal and use Touch ID or
Face ID to approve the transaction.

Apple will also add your Apple Card to Safari's auto-fill feature, which
you've likely seen a prompt for when ordering something in Safari on your
phone or Mac. If you're not being prompted to use your Apple Card, or any
card for that matter, when making purchases in Safari, go into your
iPhone's

Settings app and select Safari > AutoFill and turn on Credit Cards.

If you want to use your Apple Card on a website that doesn't accept Apple
Pay, and you're not a Safari user, your Apple Card has a semipermanent
virtual card number (more on what that means below). You can find your
card's number on your iPhone by opening the Wallet app and selecting your
Apple Card and

change quite frequently. For this reason, before you give a three words address
to any one, one has to check the three words at the time they need to determine
their exact location. For example, if the three words address to your backyard

Hi Robin,

I installed it and it seems to be accessible to some degree, but there are
buttons that are not described and I'm not sure what they do. Also when
choosing your language English United States is there twice and it's not clear
which one you're supposed to select. This is not the only language that has
double choices. No, I haven't used it, per say, I'll try it if I get lost

Vivian, those two sets of words show addresses that are only 10 digits apart,
1519 and 1509, I won't say the street or city; but the numbers are on the same
street and city; so the police would be probably one house off, at worst, which
isn't ideal, but better than having no real clue.

Comcast low-income program

2019-08-16 Thread Richard Turner
I'm forwarding to everyone in case you do not already have Comcast/Xfinity and
live in an area that they serve, or know someone who might qualify.

<<>>

If you aren't already aware, Comcast has recently expanded its low-income
“Internet Essentials” program. There is now more criteria which will expand
eligibility for this low-cost service to more people stuck in the digital
divide. This will allow affordable in-home internet service which will free
more people from having to use public Wifi hotspots to get internet access.

Learn more about Internet Essentials by Comcast program in English at
internetessentials.com

or in Spanish at es.internetessentials.com

Summary of the Internet Essentials program is as follows:

How to Qualify:

To qualify, your household must:

Be in a Comcast serviceable area.

Receive a state and/or federal assistance program noted below.

Not have any level of Xfinity Internet service now or within the last 90 days.

Not have an outstanding Comcast balance that is less than one year old.

Including meeting all of the criteria noted above, your household must also be
eligible for or receive at least one of the following public assistance
programs:

Medicaid: Federal Healthcare Program (Such as the Oregon Health Plan).

NSLP: National School Lunch Program.

SNAP: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. (Formally known as food stamps)

Housing: public housing assistance including HUD, Section 8, Housing Choice
Vouchers, etc.

TANF: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

SSI: Supplemental Security Income.

LIHEAP: Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Federal Pell Grant: Community college financial aid (CO and IL only).

WIC: Women, Infants, and Children.

VA: Veterans Pension eligibility determination letter from the Veterans
Administration.

What You'll Get

Internet Essentials includes:

15 Mbps downstream / 2 Mbps upstream Internet service for just $9.95 a month +
local sales tax (if applicable). (A 1 Terabyte data usage cap applies as with
other Comcast/Xfinity services)

No activation fees and no equipment rental fees for a Comcast provided Wireless
Gateway delivering in-home WiFi!! (This is a huge savings considering Comcast
charges their full-rate customers $13/month for the equipment)

Upon approval of eligibility, the option to purchase a refurbished computer for
just $149.99 + tax. (Windows 10 laptop OR desktop computer. See the Welcome
Kit page for details: https://www.internetessentials.com/welcome-kit )

Norton™ Security Online: Helps secure multiple PCs, Macs, smartphones and
tablets from online security threats.

Access to free Internet training online, or in person at participating partner
organizations.

Access to 40 (individual one-hour sessions) of Xfinity pubic WiFi Hotspots
every 30 days. Xfinity Wifi Hotspot Finder: https://hotspots.wifi.xfinity.com

Under this new expansion, internet access eligibility will extend to an
additional 3 million low-income Americans. According to the U.S. Census, people
living in high-poverty cities are 10 times less likely to have broadband at
home than those in higher-earning communities. Comcast has already connected
52,000 households in Oregon and SW Washington.

If you have any questions, reach out to the Comcast Internet Essentials contact
center at 1-855-846-8376 (Hours of operation are 8 AM to

For what it is worth, BlindSquare incorporates What Three Words in its app.
Yes, the app is $39.99.
Whether it is worth that is up to the individual's needs for orientation help.
But, since it is made for the blind, it is completely accessible.

Circus Master’s Revenge

2019-08-16 Thread 'Ming' via VIPhone
Will the circus master keep the promise made to the player? Play the game and
unfold the mystery ahead. There's been a big hole in the visually impaired
gaming community for quite a long time. Their craving for that game, which they
can call their own, is now over. Mental Vision LLC has created such game, that
can fill this void in this community. Circus Master's Revenge is here. An epic
non-graphic binaural battle of circus freaks, which you will never forget &
which will need you to have tremendous courage in order to defend yourself.
Beware, the circus master is definitely not very friendly. Like most
antagonists, he tries to hurt your feelings as often as possible to throw you
off your game. Hopefully, his insults will enforce you to focus on the enemy.
Good luck to anyone who is up to the challenge. Hope, you enjoy it.

Touch in the body of the email message.
Use the rotor gesture until you reach "Text Selection". If you move through
all the choices in the rotor without hearing "Text Selection", then you need to
first go to Accessibility Settings for VoiceOver and add "Text Selection" to
the rotor.
Now that you are on "text Selection" in the rotor, swipe up or down until you
reach "Select All" and double-tap.
Use the rotor gesture to move to "Edit".
Swipe up or down until you reach "Copy" and double-tap.

This is beautifully accessible with VoiceOver. I was approved for an early look
at the card and it’s fantastic! The accessibility is the biggest feature for
me. Not all bank websites/apps are accessible. Apple really makes the
experience of using and paying your card enjoyable.

This is how you set up your Apple Card for iPhone
Plan on signing up for an Apple Card? Read this.
By Jason CiprianiAugust 10, 2019 6:00 AM PDT

The look of your Apple Card is always changing.
Jason Cipriani/CNET
Earlier this week, Apple began sending out invites for its newest product,
the Apple Card. The preview period will only last a few more weeks, as Apple
plans to launch its new credit card later in August.

From a simple sign-up process to viewing your
spending habits, earning Daily Cash and paying your bill -- everything Apple
Card-related is done on your iPhone.
Video: Apple Card FAQ: What you need to know

I was able to get an invite for the preview, and after reading through the
fine print, I decided to sign up.

How to sign up
For the next few weeks, Apple is slowly rolling the Apple Card via a preview
program. If you signed up to be notified of its launch, then you have a
chance of getting randomly selected to participate. The Apple Card will
fully roll out in the US by the end of August, meaning preview invites will
no longer be required.

Once you accept the offer, you'll be asked if you want to set Apple Card as
your default card. If you select Use as Default Card your Apple Card will be
triggered for all contactless payments, and your Apple payment source for
the Apple Store (apps, movies, subscriptions) will be changed to use the

You can begin using it to make
purchases right away -- I bought some coffee at Starbucks just a few minutes
after setting my account up.

The process for using your Apple Card through Apple Pay is the same as it's
always been: Place your phone near a payment terminal and use Touch ID or
Face ID to approve the transaction.

Apple will also add your Apple Card to Safari's auto-fill feature, which
you've likely seen a prompt for when ordering something in Safari on your
phone or Mac. If you're not being prompted to use your Apple Card, or any
card for that matter, when making purchases in Safari, go into your iPhone's
Settings app and select Safari > AutoFill and turn on Credit Cards.

If you want to use your Apple Card on a website that doesn't accept Apple
Pay, and you're not a Safari user, your Apple Card has a semipermanent
virtual card number (more on what that means below). You can find your
card's number on your iPhone by opening the Wallet app and selecting your
Apple Card and then the three-dot icon in the top-right corner followed by
Card Information.
There you'll find a card number, expiration date and security code; all of
the information you'd need to make a purchase online or over the phone.

Your titanium Apple Card should arrive in the mail within a week of signing
up. Once it does, you'll need to activate it either in the Wallet app (for
older iPhone models) or by holding your iPhone XS or iPhone XR ($750 at Best
Buy) near the card's envelope and following the prompts.

The Wallet app shows you transactions and spending habits, and gives control
over your Apple Card account.

The Wallet app is your Apple Card account portal
The Wallet app on your iPhone is where you go to view and manage your Apple
Card account. Your card is tied to your Apple ID, so you don't need to worry
about creating and remembering another

Apple Card vs. Apple Pay vs. Apple Cash
Apple's three payment methods live in the Apple Wallet and can get confusing
fast.
By Katie ConnerAugust 7, 2019 2:30 AM PDT

Apple Pay isn't the same as Apple Cash. We iron it out.
Jason Cipriani/CNET
Apple is officially in the credit card game with the Apple Card, a mostly
digital card that's available now for those who've received invites. With
its tight ties to the iPhone ($1,000 at Amazon) -- you can't actually use
Apple Card without one -- Apple is once again using its services to help
make the iPhone more valuable to its loyal users. As with iOS 13, the new
mobile software coming to iPhones in fall, making the software on the device
appealing is as important as making the device itself attention-grabbing.
The role of these services is especially important as iPhone sales continue
to slow.
Apple Card is a big enough beast on its own, with a physical card and plenty
of fine print, but it won't replace Apple Pay or Apple Cash, which is where
things get confusing.
See, Apple Card, Apple Pay and Apple Cash will all be accessible from your
iPhone's digital wallet -- they each have their own purpose. Here's what
they are, and how you'll use them.
If you're interested in learning more about setting up using Apple Pay,
watch the How To Use Apple Pay video below.
Apple Pay is the lynchpin
Apple Pay is the name of the system that makes digital payments with your
iPhone possible. It lives in the Wallet app and was designed to replace the
need to cart around physical payment cards. As with Google Pay and Samsung
Pay, you load the details of your real-life credit and debit cards into the
Apple Pay app. Then, you can call up your virtual credit card to make
payments online or in stores with your iPhone instead of thumbing through
your wallet for your card.
Apple Pay requires your authentication in order to kick off a payment.
You'll either scan your face using Face ID, scan your fingerprint or type in
your passcode to verify your identity. In stores, you'll hold the iPhone
near the NFC payment terminal until you see confirmation. For online
purchases, you'll verify your identity, and the software will take over from
there to complete the purchase.
Apple Pay works on its own, but you can add an Apple Card as one of your
credit cards (see below for more details) and can use Apple Cash to shuttle
funds to and from your friends and family.

Apple's digital card lives in the Wallet app, but there's also a physical
card.
Apple Card is tied to your bank account
Apple's new credit card is backed by Mastercard and Goldman Sachs. It acts
like a "real" credit card just like the plastic or metal card in your wallet
or purse, with interest rates and up to 3% cash back, but it mostly lives as
a digital card on your phone.
There's also a physical card element, with Apple shipping you a slick
titanium rectangle with your name engraved on it. This is to use on the
occasion that a brick-and-mortar store doesn't take Apple Pay.
What does Apple Pay have to do with it? Everything. Apple Card is one more
card that you can use digitally with Apple Pay. Instead of loading in and
using your usual bank card from Chase or Wells Fargo, you use your Apple
Card from Goldman Sachs.
Convenience and a strong emphasis on security are two reasons you'd use
Apple Card, and we recommend reading up on all the Apple Card details if
you're interested in signing up this summer. Remember, you can continue to
use Apple's digital payment system with your own credit cards.

Apple Cash is peer-to-peer
Apple Cash is a service that's built into the Apple Pay platform that lets
you send, receive and request money from others through iMessages.
Apple refers to it as a "prepaid debit card in your Apple Wallet." It's
similar to Venmo, but you'll have to add money to your Apple Cash account by
using your debit card in the Wallet app. Apple confirmed that credit cards
are no longer supported in Apple Cash. Apple Cash works across iOS devices
like iPhone, Apple Watch ($349 at Amazon), iPad ($249 at Walmart) and Mac.

To use Apple Cash, you must be at least 18 years old and be a US resident.
You'll need to have iOS 11.2 or later, or if you're using an Apple Watch,
WatchOS 4.2 or later. You'll also want to make sure you're signed into
iCloud on each device you want to send and receive money through. You launch
the request in iMessages and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your
passcode.
When you receive cash from a contact, you'll find it in a digital Apple Cash
card in the Wallet (you'll have to agree to the terms and conditions to set
this up). You can use this cash to make payments in stores, in apps and
online -- or you can transfer your balance to your bank account. You can
also transfer the balance to your bank account linked to Apple Pay.

The other brilliant thing about this move is that it makes their lowest
paid plan far more useful. Having those thirty paid minutes could stretch
any five minute call into a more suitable length for most tasks around the
home. I think I'd want more time per month if I used it like I've heard
some explorers do for literally going places and events using Aira for
guidance. For those everyday moments though, particularly when dealing with
sensitive information you might not want to trust to a Be My Eyes random
volunteer, it's gotten reasonably economical.

It is a brilliant marketing strategy from Aira though, because if
someone uses several 5 minute free sessions, they may be more open to
signing up with the service.

RE: selecting and copying

2019-08-16 Thread Anthony Borg
Hi richard

I don’t have a bluetooth keyboard, but the full explanation you gave me to use
vo, it is very useful.

Well done.

if you are using a bluetooth keyboard, command plus a would be select all.

If using VO gestures, make sure you are at the top of the message, turn the
rotor to text selection, flick up or down with one finger to select all, then
flick right with one finger.

Now, turn the rotor to edit, and flick up or down to copy and double tap.

Then go where you want to paste it and turn the rotor to edit, flick up or down
until you get to paste and double tap.

If text selection isn't on your rotor, you will need to go to VoiceOver
settings, under Rotor, and select it.

HTH,
