RE: Waterproof headphones for swimming

2020-02-11 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Over the head on ear?!

Can't see that working as the inner section of the ear pad where the speaker is
would still get water in it.

You'd be better with in ear waterproof headphones.

I know people make them but I can't remember the names.

Hi list!!
Does anyone know of any water proof over the head on the ear headphones for
swimming that could be used with an iphone or water proof mp 3 player?
I want some that go over the ear and not in to it, no ear buds.
Do any of you know of any?

You may not notice a lag when playing or resuming audio, but believe me, there
is no Bluetooth headset at this point with no lag, simply not technically
possible and it also does not really matter whether it’s Bluetooth 2.1, 3, 4,
4.1 or 5.
I have had relatively inexpensive Bluetooth 2.1 or 3 headsets which had less
lag than a much more expensive set which used 4.1.

Yes, Bose are good, but I question paying $300 or more for a pair of Bluetooth
headsets, they are still Bluetooth headsets and until this new Bluetooth
technology which I read about a couple of weeks ago makes its debut, Bluetooth
just can't touch the sound quality of a wired headsets. Then there is the
question of price in general, you can easily spend $2,000 or more for a true
audio file quality headset and that’s not even talking about a dedicated
headset amplifier to drive your high-end headset. But I guess that is beyond
what most people are looking for just as most of my outdoor or hunting
customers buy a $300 to $700 pair of binoculars and not the $3,200 pair of
Swarovskis.

If you really want to make an informed decision, spend an hour or so reading
some or all of the information on this website:

Audiophile 101: The Beginner Guide to Headphones & Hi-Res
Audio

Then also take a look at this site which includes many examples of headsets and
links to buying them on Amazon, Bose, by the way, usually doesn’t make it onto

Yes, and I pointed out it was a UK phone number when it was first posted, but
no one seemed to catch that, and the reality is Uber itself has no customer

Again, I do not use Uber, so I may be off base here.

RE: Bose headphones?

2020-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The Sony are Bluetooth only. Apart from the Logitech H800 I don’t think I have
ever seen another headset which could connect via Bluetooth but also had a USB
dongle. Don’t get me wrong, I like the H800, the only thing I don’t like is the
somewhat flimsy power/mode switch and the rather short battery life. After
all, they are fairly big headsets and they probably could have accommodated a
larger battery.

Are these BT only? Asking because you say it does not work with a USB
dongle. The main feature for me with the H800 is the ability to use either BT or
USB and when using with the dongle, it is like having a convenient extra sound
card. And the ease of switching from the computer to the IPhone is nice.

Hi Ed,

I did buy the Logitech H800 and find them comfortable, otherwise I’d say they
are adequate but not more.
Sound quality is mediocre and their 6-hour battery life is ridiculously short
for such a large headset.
The dual USB and Bluetooth functionality is nice, being able to charge while
using is actually good and not something most Bluetooth headsets can do.
Lastly, the power switch which slides from the off position to Bluetooth in the
middle and USB if you slide it up another click is of rather poor quality and
mine sometimes seems to not work already.

I also recently purchased a Sony
WH-CH510
Bluetooth headset, the link I provided is for Amazon.com where they go for
$59.99 and in this case it even includes a hard case. This is more or less the
same as the Logitech H800 and while they can’t be used with a USB dongle, they
sound definitely better and boast up to 35 hours battery life, are Bluetooth
5.0 and charge via USB-C. They are also on-ear, one small disadvantage is that
they seem to fit a little bit tighter than the Logitech H800, but still fairly
comfortable.

Sieghard

Cowan E7 headphones?

2020-02-11 Thread territek
I bought these on Amazon for work to listen to JAWS and the numerous ZOOM
meetings. They only cost $59 and they feel like such great quality, oh and they
sound great as well. They have a switch for regular and noise cancelling, a
microphone, volume, pairing Bluetooth. They also have an audio cord. These are
the over the ear (cup style) and are very comfortable with hearing aids.

Memmory foam pads over the speaker and all around the ear. Check them out on
Amazon.

Hi Sieghard,

I put a 320 ma battery in my Logitech H800 and I get 10 or more hours on it. So
far I have three of the h800 and quite a few friends that have the h800 and I
have never heard of the switch wearing out. Yes sometimes if you don’t get it
just right it will not connect to the iPhone but not very often. I know they
are not perfect but for the price and what I use them for they work great. I
don’t listen to music. I use them to listen to Jaws on my computer and talk to
friends on my iPhone using Facetime for hours. I have to wear them over my
behind the ear hearing aids and they work great for that. I’ll take a look at
the Sony’s. I am always looking for other brands as they may not keep making
the h800 for long as one never knows. I have to have an over the ear headset
and I don’t like the cup style with my hearing aids.

I also recently purchased a Sony WH-CH510

Bluetooth headset, the link I provided is for Amazon.com where they go for
$59.99 and in this case it even includes a hard case. This is more or less the
same as the Logitech H800 and while they can’t be used with a USB dongle, they
sound definitely better and boast up to 35 hours battery life, are Bluetooth
5.0 and charge via USB-C. They are also on-ear, one small disadvantage is that
they seem to fit a little bit tighter than the Logitech H800, but still fairly
comfortable.

Sieghard

Message Failed to Send Revisited

2020-02-11 Thread Vivian Conger
Hi All,

Last night I was trying to text a friend and I kept getting "message failed
to send." She has an Android and I have an iPhone 7 with IOS 13.3.

The things that I tried for those 10 messages are:

Rebooting the phone.

Deleting her messages from my message list.

Dictating through Siri within or outside the message app.

Going into Contacts and selecting her name and then dictating the message.

Single finger, double tap when she sent me a message and then dictating in
the app.

Asked Siri to send her phone number a text.

I can't remember if I tried anything else but know that I was a very unhappy
camper. It seems like there was some sort of setting that might need to be
changed. Thoughts?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Then there is the
question of price in general, you can easily spend $2,000 or more for a true
audio file quality headset and that’s not even talking about a dedicated
headset

Using the Uber App to Dispute A Charge

2020-02-11 Thread sherrywells1157
Hello all,

I tried to use the Uber app to dispute a charge with no luck. I'm hoping
someone can help. I had a $50 gift card so my charges were going there. My
first question is is there any way to see the charges against the card? I
can find my ride history & it only shows one ride today. Yet I received 2
separate receipts via email for this one ride. My credit card is showing a
partial charge so that means the gift card has maxed out. Per my
calculations this should not be so.

I found the dispute charge section by going to the help menu. I filled in
my name, date for ride #1 then date for ride #2. I left ride #3 blank. I
filled in the comment. After doing all this the submit button remained
dimmed so I could not submit. I looked all over the page to find what I
could have missed but found nothing. Any ideas?

This is why being able to call & talk to a person would be helpful.

Thanks,

Sherry Wells

Does anyone have a phone number to contact Uber? I have tried
for over and hour to get a dispute lodged over an excessive fare on my ride
earlier and am ready to scream. So please take pity on me if you have such a
number.

Thanks,

I also recently purchased a Sony WH-CH510 Bluetooth headset, the link I
provided is for Amazon.com where they go for $59.99 and in this case it even
includes a hard case. This is more or less the same as the Logitech H800 and
while they can’t be used with a USB dongle, they sound definitely better and
boast up to 35 hours battery life, are Bluetooth 5.0 and charge via USB-C. They
are also on-ear, one small disadvantage is that they seem to fit a little bit
tighter than the Logitech H800, but still fairly comfortable.

Regards,

Sieghard

Try the Logitech H800 headset. They are wireless but can be plugged in and use
while charging. They are light, excellent Bluetooth range and are price around
$65. No wires hanging out like on the Koss. Also some report on the reviews
that the wireless Koss Bluetooth is poor.

All I can say is just the other day I bought a pair of Koss Portapros that are
Bluetooth and they are phenomenal! I mean no latency at all. Believe me, I
have put them through their paces and I have never seen anything like this.
When there are pauses and speech or music resumes, nothing is lost in that
first sound or syllable. They are a head band type of head phone that goes
over the ear but is not a can. You can still hear what is going on around you.
I wear them when I am using Aira but since I wear hearing aids them, I put
them more over the Mics on my behind the ear aids and then I can hear what is
going on around me and I can also hear the agent. I do not wear hearing aids
when I wear them just for listening purposes. Hope this all makes sense.

Yes, Bose are good, but I question paying $300 or more for a pair of
Bluetooth headsets, they are still Bluetooth headsets and until this new
Bluetooth technology which I read about a couple of weeks ago makes its debut,
Bluetooth just can't touch the sound quality of a wired headsets. Then there is
the question of price in general, you can easily spend $2,000 or more for a
true audio file quality headset and that’s not even talking about a dedicated
headset amplifier to drive your high-end headset.

Audiophile 101: The Beginner Guide to Headphones & Hi-Res Audio

Then also take a look at this site which includes many examples of headsets
and links to buying them on Amazon, Bose, by the way, usually doesn’t make it
onto these types of lists:

11 battery life and latest update.

2020-02-11 Thread Carolyn
What a surprise for me. I am now getting the battery life I
expected from my 11, once I went ahead and downloaded the
latest update Sunday evening. I was reluctant to download
it, because I think I had heard some negative criticism on
one of the lists, but not a plethora of them, so went on and
downloaded. I noticed last night, that despite pretty heavy
use of my phone in the past 24 hours, I had 85 percent
battery. I won't charge until tonight.

I wondered what happened, and then I thought about the
update, which is the only thing I can attribute the
difference to.

Hi Shermeen

A lot of the newer headphone models give you both Bluetooth and a wire also.

But as for a wired headphone with lightening You will have to go with the
adapter in most cases,

I have not yet seen a wired or wire for headphones with the lightening
connecter rather than a 3.5mm headphone jack.

I highly recommend the going to a store and asking for a demo of their
headphones especially the quiet comforts with your own music,

Not the displays music

With your own music you know what you should be hearing and it gives a better
reality to what your after.

Thanks, all. The comments about wired vs. wireless are interesting. Do most
makers of headphones allow you to plug directly into the lightning port? or
must you always have an adapter handy? I tend not to be a fan of wires as a
concept, but have not thoroughly tested Bluetooth headphones to compare.

Basically, all you have to do is have an audio clip of 90s or less in AAC
format, change the name to .m4r and get it into your iphone (by whichever
tool chain you like, itunes, IMazing, whatever).

RE: Waterproof headphones for swimming

2020-02-11 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
I don't personally use them, but Aftershokz has the Xtrainers:
https://aftershokz.com/products/xtrainerz
They're supposed to be waterproof up to 2 meters (for swimmers). Something like
4GB of internal storage etc.
I believe these are also bone conduction headphones (they come with earplugs).

Does anyone know of any water proof over the head on the ear headphones for

I want some that go over the ear and not in to it, no ear buds.
Do any of you know of any?

Re: Phone number for Uber?

2020-02-11 Thread Wayne Merritt
I've used the Lyft app and it is not hard at all to select the
category and specific issue. I have found if I select 3 or 4 stars,
different reasons pop up, such as driver issue or route concern, which
when chosen present additional choices from which you can choose. For
instance, I gave 3 stars yesterday based on a driver issue. After I
chose that category, there were a number of options that showed up,
such as driver's photo does not match, route trouble, poor customer
service, etc. There was an edit box where I could provide more details
about the specific issue. I do not have a guide dog currently, but I
know that I've seen a service dog denial as one of the reasons for a 1
or 2 star rating. I haven't lodged a complaint or done the rating on
the web so can't speak to that. Via the Lyft app, it is very
accessible.

Kind regards,
Wayne Merritt

RE: Thoughts on iPhone9?

2020-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Unless you really need the better camera and want Face I d there is in my
opinion not even a good reason to update from an iPhone 8 to an iPhone 11 or 11
Pro.
Yes, apart from the above you get better battery life and it will be a bit
faster, but I am always surprised how little difference I notice in most
day-to-day usage when I get a new phone, e.g. when I updated from my 6S Plus to
the 8, a jump of 2 generations and one where theoretically the processor is so
much faster. I’m sure you may see that difference more if you do a lot of
playing games or other things like maybe video or photo editing and so on, but
for using my banking app, sending a text or email, using my various home
automation apps it makes very little difference.

I have started only updating phones every 2 years because I don’t think there

That argument is probably more about whether Huawei should play a roll in
setting up the 5G infrastructure, I highly doubt a country like New Zealand
will not have 5G as this is the inevitable next step. It maybe another year or
two before we see broader availability, but as I said, I buy my iPhones now
with a 3 to 4 year lifespan in mind. In my opinion the time when upgrading
every 2 years or even every year are over. The only time I upgraded from one
iPhone to the next the following year was between 2010 and 2011. I bought my
first iPhone 4 in 2010 and when the 4S with SIRI came out in 2011 I really
wanted that. After that I upgraded to a 5S in 2013, 2 years after I got the 4S,
then I got the 6S Plus in 2015, again 2 years, then I got an iPhone 8 in 2018
which was 3 years after the 6S Plus. I expect I have the iPhone 8 for 3 years
and who knows, maybe I’ll even keep it for 4 years, it all depends on what
deals are being offered. When my wife and I bought the iPhone 8 we actually had
already decided to stick with our 6S phones for another year and we then would
have bought probably an XR last year, but around Black Friday in 2018 our
provider offered the iPhone 8 64Gb for a $150 downpayment and $15 over 2 years
which adds up to a total of $510 and back then if I had bought an unlocked
iPhone 8 from Apple it would have been $819 so getting it for $310 less seemed
like a pretty good deal and after selling my 6S Plus at the time for $400 I
essentially am paying a bit more than $100. All these prices are Canadian
Dollars.

If you don’t want to spend the money then why bother to buy this upcoming phone?
Your iPhone 8 is a perfectly fine phone and it will serve you well for another
2 years, I have one myself and certainly wouldn’t even dream about buying this
upcoming phone which almost certainly will not have 5G support.
Whether I buy an iPhone 12 in the fall depends greatly on what Apple comes up
with, but for me it is also unlikely since it will probably have first
generation support for 5G, and maybe even first generation support for under
display touch ID, but in my opinion the phones nowadays are such mature
products and so expensive that I want to get at least 3 years out of one and
even better 4. I figure if I guy whatever iPhone comes out in the fall of 2021
I get a model which better supports some of these new technologies, by then my
iPhone 8 which I only bought in December of 2018 will be 3 years old and it
will have earned it’s money.
I know some people are on plans which allow them to upgrade each year, but of
course these types of plans don’t come for free an d in the end Apple and the
providers get their money out of you.

RE: Re: Bose headphones?

2020-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, it simply means that the plug on the headset is USB-C, the cable which
comes with it still has a regular USB-A type plug on the other end so you can
plug it into any computer or wall adapter such as the one of your iPhone.
But if you have a laptop with USB-C port or a USB-C wall adapter with a USB-C
to USB-C cable you can use it and I believe this would probably allow for USB-C
fast charging.
The cable which comes with it by the way is super short, probably no more than
6 inches, great if you use it next to a laptop or if you have a wall adapter
plugged in to an outlet above a counter.

You stated that this Sony headset charges via, USB-C. Does this mean if you
don't have a, USB-C, port you would have to get an adaptor to convert the
standard USB port to USB-C? Thanks much.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Sieghard

Try the Logitech H800 headset. They are wireless but can be plugged in and use
while charging. They are light, excellent Bluetooth range and are price around
$65. No wires hanging out like on the Koss. Also some report on the reviews
that the wireless Koss Bluetooth is poor.

Go Go Grandparent was designed for people who do not have a smart phone or are

have done a better job with the name, they are capitalizing on the stereo type
that older people are not tech savvy.

RE: Bose headphones?

2020-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The Bose QuietComfort 35 is now the "series II" and has built-in support for
Alexa and Google Assistant. However, even the series II came out already in
2017 and while still available, the current version of these is now called the
Bose noise cancelling wireless Bluetooth headphones 700. Of course at $499
Canadian they are even another $50 more than the QuietComfort 35 series II
which still cost an expensive $449. And while they say they are light weight,
they both way over half a pound, 236 grams to be exact, for the QuietComfort 35
series II and 249 grams for the 700. The on-ear Sony headset I just bought
weighs 130 grams, it cost $69.99 and while it doesn't have noise cancellation
or built-in digital assistants, it sounds actually quite good for a Bluetooth
headset.
Another classic, available for $440 on Amazon Canada is the  Sony WH1000XM3. It
is also a Noise Cancelling, Wireless Bluetooth Over the Ear Headphone.
For the Sony it says that in Bluetooth mode the frequency response is 20 to
20,000 Hz, in passive wired mode (that means hooked up with a cable and power
turned off) it is 4 to 40,000 Hz, again this shows the loss of quality with
Bluetooth.
Also just saw that Vision.ca which is a smaller chain of electronics stores in
Canada sells it for $349.99 which even when converted is less than the $298
they cost at most places in the US.

Is anyone using Bose over-the-ear or on-ear headphones? can you comment on
sound quality of music? I'd like to feel as though I'm right there, conducting
the orchestra or starring in the song I'm listening to, if you know the feeling
I'm after. Good bass is a must, although not too obnoxious (you know when
you're in a car, stopped at a light, and the bass of the car next to you is
rattling everything within a kilometer range? that's not what I'm after).

And of course, if anyone has other recommendations, that would be great. Note
that I am not looking for anything that goes in the ear itself.

Thank you!

RE: Phone number for Uber?

2020-02-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If the dispute is about a fare then I’m pretty sure there is a category for
that.
I know there is one if there is a problem with a service dog. I once had a
driver in Calgary who ultimately took me, but when he arrived and saw I had a
guide dog he started arguing with me and after the ride I reported this to Uber
via the app. I made sure that I mentioned he was otherwise quite nice, but
their drivers should know the law and shouldn’t argue about whether I am
obligated to tell them I have a guide dog or not. I can’t remember how long it
took any more, I just remember that I received a reply very quickly, whoever
wrote it apologized on behalf of the driver and Uber and while I had not asked
for it nor expected it, the cost for my ride was refunded as well.

You may not notice a lag when playing or resuming audio, but believe me,
there is no Bluetooth headset at this point with no lag, simply not
technically possible and it also does not really matter whether it’s
Bluetooth 2.1, 3, 4, 4.1 or 5.

I have had relatively inexpensive Bluetooth 2.1 or 3 headsets which had
less lag than a much more expensive set which used 4.1.

Yes, Bose are good, but I question paying $300 or more for a pair of
Bluetooth headsets, they are still Bluetooth headsets and until this new
Bluetooth technology which I read about a couple of weeks ago makes its
debut, Bluetooth just can't touch the sound quality of a wired headsets.
Then there is the question of price in general, you can easily spend $2,000
or more for a true audio file quality headset and that’s not even talking
about a dedicated headset amplifier to drive your high-end headset. But I
guess that is beyond what most people are looking for just as most of my
outdoor or hunting customers buy a $300 to $700 pair of binoculars and not
the $3,200 pair of Swarovskis.

If you really want to make an informed decision, spend an hour or so
reading some or all of the information on this website:

Audiophile 101: The Beginner Guide to Headphones & Hi-Res Audio

Then also take a look at this site which includes many examples of
headsets and links to buying them on Amazon, Bose, by the way, usually doesn’t
make it onto these types of lists:

Does anyone have a phone number to contact Uber? I have tried for over and hour
to get a dispute lodged over an excessive fare on my ride earlier and am ready
to scream. So please take pity on me if you have such a number.

Thanks,

Re: Phone number for Uber?

2020-02-11 Thread Kathy Brandt
For the sake of completeness, I should’ve said that once you do get something
through to Uber sand Lyft support, and they email you back, then is when you
can really more easily explain something, just making sure that your reply is
at the top of your email to them, otherwise as they stated in the email, it
won’t be received if it is below the slashes.

Hi Sieghard,

You stated that this Sony headset charges via, USB-C. Does this mean if you
don't have a, USB-C, port you would have to get an adaptor to convert the
standard USB port to USB-C? Thanks much.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Hi Ed,

I did buy the Logitech H800 and find them comfortable, otherwise I’d say
they are adequate but not more.

Sound quality is mediocre and their 6-hour battery life is ridiculously
short for such a large headset.

The dual USB and Bluetooth functionality is nice, being able to charge while
using is actually good and not something most Bluetooth headsets can do.

Lastly, the power switch which slides from the off position to Bluetooth in
the middle and USB if you slide it up another click is of rather poor
quality and mine sometimes seems to not work already.

They are also on-ear, one small disadvantage is that they seem to fit a
little bit tighter than the Logitech H800, but still fairly comfortable.

Sieghard

Try the Logitech H800 headset. They are wireless but can be plugged in and
use while charging. They are light, excellent Bluetooth range and are price
around $65. No wires hanging out like on the Koss. Also some report on the
reviews that the wireless Koss Bluetooth is poor.

All I can say is just the other day I bought a pair of Koss Portapros that
are Bluetooth and they are phenomenal! I mean no latency at all. Believe
me, I have put them through their paces and I have never seen anything like
this. When there are pauses and speech or music resumes, nothing is lost
in that first sound or syllable. They are a head band type of head phone
that goes over the ear but is not a can. You can still hear what is going
on around you. I wear them when I am using Aira but since I wear hearing
aids them, I put them more over the Mics on my behind the ear aids and then
I can hear what is going on around me and I can also hear the agent. I do
not wear hearing aids when I wear them just for listening purposes. Hope
this all makes sense.

TOP 30 BEST AUDIOPHILE HEADPHONES FOR 2020

Here are two examples of the very high-end:
