Now really, I despise Android just as much as the next guy or gal, but there is
a list for accessible Android apps,

www.inclusiveandroid.com

It is not kept up to date very well, but it is there, just to be fair..

Setting up a new iPhone SE 2020 step by step

2020-04-30 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi List,

I decided to make detailed notes of the steps involved in setting up a new
iPhone mainly for my own benefit since I forget what is involved as I only
do this every couple of years. In my case, I bought this SE 2020 directly
from the Apple Store app with no SIM card included since I have a prepaid
Verizon plan and could not specify my carrier successfully when ordering.
The below numbered list will be very detailed since I'd rather have too much
information than not enough. Any settings provided came from my iPhone 8
running iOS 13.4.1.

1.Opened iTunes on my Windows 7 computer, verified I was running
its latest version of 12.10.6, connected my iPhone 8 using the lightning
cable, and did an encrypted backup.

2.Did an iCloud backup by going to Settings - Alan Lemly - Apple
ID - iCloud - iTunes and App Store, iCloud, iCloud backup, and executing
Backup now.

3.I read a lot of books using the BARD Mobile app and since any
books downloaded to an iPhone are not transferred to a new restored iPhone,
I made a list in an Excel file of the downloaded books I wanted to
re-download to my new iPhone and the location of any current reading
position in those books.

4.I plugged my lightning cable connected to my computer to the
new phone and the Apple logo appeared on the screen. The white screen
appeared a few seconds later with the cycling languages appearing and I
pressed the home button 3 times quickly to turn on Voiceover. Although I was
hearing clicks as I swiped, Voiceover did not start talking until a number
of seconds later. In fact, I pressed the home button 3 times again because I
wasn't sure I had turned Voiceover on. This turned Voiceover off and I had
to press the home button 3 times again to turn it back on and I heard
Voiceover say hello and when I swiped once, Voiceover said press home to
open.

5.I pressed home and Voiceover said Setup and put me in a list of
language buttons with English at the top. I double tapped on English.

6.The screen which opened said Select your country or region
heading. I double tapped on the United States button which was the first in
the list.

7.The screen which opened said Quick start heading Bring your
current iPhone or iPad near this iPhone to sign in and set up. The older
iPhone must be using iOS 11 or later with Bluetooth turned on. There was a
button at the end to Set up manually.

8.A screen opened on my old iPhone to set up a new iPhone using
my apple ID with a button to continue. A screen appeared to position some
pattern in a circle but I double tapped the Authenticate manually button
instead.

9.I was prompted to input the 6 digit authentication code
displayed on my new iPhone using the number pad screen on my old iPhone. My
new iPhone then prompted me to enter my passcode of my old iPhone. I had to
double tap each number on the on screen number pad on my new iPhone since
touch typing was not turned on.

10.I was prompted to set up touch ID on the new iPhone which I did.

11.Several screens were presented asking me to place my finger and
lift my finger which I did. I was then taken to a screen which said Adjust
your grip and it said keep going to capture the edges of your grip. I double
tapped a Continue button at the bottom of this screen.

12.I was then prompted to again place and lift my finger until I got
the Complete message. Touch ID is ready was spoken and I then executed the
Continue button at the bottom of that screen.

13.The next screen said Transfer your data heading. The explanation
said you can directly transfer your data during setup or finish downloading
it later. Buttons on this screen were Transfer from iPhone, Download from
iCloud, or other options. The Transfer from iPhone said the time to transfer
was about 1 hour. The download from iCloud said I could start using my
iPhone in about 15 minutes and my data would download later over wifi. I
executed the Transfer from iPhone button.

14.I was taken to a Terms and conditions screen on the new iPhone
where I double tapped an Agree button in the bottom right corner.

15.I was taken to a Settings from other iPhone heading screen where
it listed some settings about allowing Siri to use voice input, contacts,
etc. and allowing maps to use my location. I executed the Continue button at
the bottom of this screen without customizing any settings.

16.I was taken to a Keep your iPhone up to date heading screen which
was basically a commercial for updating iOS automatically. At the bottom of
this screen was a Continue button followed by an Install updates manually
button. I chose the Install updates manually button.

17.I was then taken to a screen to Add cards to Apple Pay. Instead
of executing the Continue button, I chose to Set up later in Wallet which
was a button that followed the Continue button.

18.The next

Dan, You might want to take a look at Inclusive Android at

NO worries. I have one on order to use with the SE so I can charge and use the

I don’t have any USB headphones anyway, but Dacia might have some for her

I think the sales of this phone may help to determine if Apple keeps offering
new, smaller phones. Smaller width wise anyway.
Time will tell.

Subject: Impressions SE2020

Hi, I decided to get an SE2020 because it is a smaller phone and would fit my
smaller hands. I received it on Monday. These are my observations so far.

The setup was wonderful and very easy. I put the two phones together when it
was asked if I wanted to transfer data from my old phone. It was perfect except
I had to download an update which at the end put me back in the hello screen. I
could not find the English hello so I called Apple Accessibility and they told
me to shut off my phone and bring it back up. When I did so it asked for my pin
and when I had put it in I again was asked for my apple ID password. Once typed
in there was the whole screen with my folders and apps, some loading.

The fingerprint and home button has been a challenge to remember as I had
gotten used to the haptic swipe. However, the fingerprint is really snappy and
quick. The loading of pages and opening of apps is also snappy. Of course the
phone is much easier for me to hold. At the moment I don't have a case, but
that is on its way. I am hoping it will not make the phone too much bigger.

All in all, this has been a great change for me. It looks very much like Apple
will not go back to the smaller phones so it will be my phone for as long as
possible before I need to get a new one which will likely be much bigger.

Did you perhaps use the classic view? This was possible in previous OS X

I didn't use the classic mode anyway, so I don’t know when it was removed
exactly (if this is the case of course).

email headings in the mailbox. That is the from, subject, date and time and
mailbox. I used to be able just to scroll down by subject or date without

In addition to the below tricks, I also find that leaving one unread message at
the top of the list will sometimes work. If I delete messages below the top

Hello,

Yes, this has been a very annoying bug throughout IOS 13. I too have reported
it and hope it gets fixed. As to a workaround of sorts, I try one of these two
things to help minimize the problem. Neither works consistantly but they can
save a lot of swiping around.

1. Touching part way down. After deleting an email and ending up at the top of
the screen, rather than swiping right to get back into the in-box list I just
touch the screen part way down. While this usually doesn't get me back to the
correct location in the list, it does get me close and saves a lot of swiping.
I normally work with a bluetooth keyboard and find this touch method still
saves a lot of extra steps. With a bluetooth keyboard, you can also just hold
down the right arrow key and let it repeat. This quickly runs down the items in
the in-box but I still prefer the touch approach.

2. Working backward. If I have a lot of unread emails in the in-box, I choose
one part way down the list to open. On closing it, it usually becomes the top
one on the in-box list. Instead of deleting it, I swipe back once to see the
prior unread emailand I work on that one. Essentially I save all of my deletes
until I have finished working on the unreads. Then, I double click the edit
button, select all the emails I want to delete, find the delete or trash button
at the bottom of the screen, and double tap. I receive a lot of email and I use
a related technique to initially cut it down. I double tap the edit button and
work my way down the in-box list, selecting each email whose subject line is
not something I am interested in. Then I delete them as above.

As I say, these tricks do not work consistantly. One thing I have found to work
consistantly is to delete an email while it is open. Make sure the rotor is set
to "actions" and flick up to find delete. You can also find the "more
actions"button at the bottom of the open email screen, double tap it, then find
delete in there. Deleting this way will then open the next email for you
without going back to the in-box screen. Deleting this way will effectively
prevent working with email threads but it will keep the focus from jumping to
the top of the in-box all the time.

Note - I refer here to working on an iphone. Email works slightly differently
on an ipad and the focus problem does not appear to infect email on an ipad.

Good luck.

I notice when resetting network settings my bluetooth devices were still there,

I'm glad xseems to be sorting itself out.
If pressing t tries to jump to a table it is because Quick Nav is on. Space+q
toggles Quick Nav, and I think space+dot7+q is single quick nav.
Maybe it was on automatically if you were not actually editing, or it got
turned on by mistake.
I will try it with uncontracted on and see if things behave differently.

The weired thing now is, I am testing maybe for 10 minutes now and the problem

I have been switching now between messages app and whatsapp and now suddenly

Re: Mail

2020-04-30 Thread Richard Turner
I Agree. I always report bugs to Apple.
I know that not everyone follows through, but hopefully the people using the
beta are, and if everyone would write a short message to Apple Accessibility
when a bug is found, I'm sure it would help a lot.

Re: join me to reproduce this bug and if so immediately report to Apple accessibility

2020-04-30 Thread Davy Cuppens
This ios is so crab Richard, everybody who reproduces bugs has other
experiences. That is like ios11.0, most had no bugs but some had a bunch of
them.
What I can reproduce is that on ios12 I haven’t had any of these annoyances so
they are certainly tramendous bugs even if they are device specific on my
iphone xr 64 gb.

OK, I changed my settings to match yours. Now, making a mistake and deleting
still allows VoiceOver to continue speaking.
But, I still do not get the letters spoken as I delete them.
This is curious to me.
I cannot think of another setting that would account for the lack of speech
when I delete characters.
But, I cannot duplicate the VoiceOver going silent after editing in an email.
I will try it in notes.

Re: join me to reproduce this bug and if so immediately report to Apple accessibility

2020-04-30 Thread Richard Turner
OK, I changed my settings to match yours. Now, making a mistake and deleting
still allows VoiceOver to continue speaking.
But, I still do not get the letters spoken as I delete them.
This is curious to me.
I cannot think of another setting that would account for the lack of speech
when I delete characters.
But, I cannot duplicate the VoiceOver going silent after editing in an email.
I will try it in notes.

Well, I am writing this on the Orbit, and going to see if I can reproduce the
bug.
I will make a mistake here, interestingly, I made a mistake, deleted part of
the word, and continued and VoiceOver is speaking just fine.
However, where you here each letter you delete, I hear nothing until I have
deleted the entire word.
Exactly what ar your keyboard settings for hardware keyboards?
I'd like to hear the letters I am deleting.

Hi folks

Please do the following using ios13.4.1

Connect whatever brail display to your iphone and write text into a text edit
field whatever application and everything will seem to work normal.
Now type a mistake and press space +d backspace and correct your word and go on
typing. Then, in my case, voiceover stops giving feedback and there is no way
to restore it back to normal. My feedback is set on words. If I delete text I
get feedback of each letter I erase but no feedback of words when typing

Re: Mail

2020-04-30 Thread Richard Turner
I am now writing on my old SE which I put the beta of 13.4.5 on.
I just deleted about 10 messages in a row without being thrown back to the back
button, but stayed in the list where I should be.
I will continue to monitor this. But being abusive toward Apple with your angry
bombs isn't going to accomplish anything.

happen every time I'm reading mail but it is occurring the majority of the
time. I hoped that this would be fixed with the latest update but it didn't
happen.

Hello all
i've just moved to the new SC from an iPhone 6 actually I had an interim phone
which was a 6S with 13 on it. But there's something buggy about the Mail
program on my new phone which Apple Accessibility has said is a bug. I'm
wondering if anyone else is noticing it and if they found a workaround.
after I read a message and delete it I am thrown back to the very top of the
page which says Gmail. From there I have to swipe down to get to the next
message. It's not automatically keeping me where the messages are. It's a
nuisance to have to keep going from the top back down to wear the next unread
message starts to be listed. I don't know if collapsing the messages after
reading or not makes any difference. Seems I've tried both and I still have
this problem. Has anyone found a workaround or does anyone know what to do
about the sort of thing? Am I the only one this is happening to? No I'm not
paranoid! Sent from my iPhone

I had this very same problem on my old phone too. It’s not resolved yet with
13.4.1, but hopefully will be in the future.

join me to reproduce this bug and if so immediately report to Apple accessibility

2020-04-30 Thread Davy Cuppens

If I delete text I
get feedback of each letter I erase but no feedback of words when typing
further on.
Regards
davy

They are aware of this. On my keyboard I was asked to press VO+space to see if
that opens the edit field.

I had noticed this too, but this in fact has been a bug if you want to call
it that for years off and on. The fact is that as long as you know it double
tapping first on last name and starting there, then go to first name and other
fields becomes second nature and as far as bugs go it’s so minor that for me
it’s not worth the time it takes to write an email about it. I am not saying
those who find it more annoying shouldn’t write that email, but to me it simply
makes no difference if I first enter the first name or the last name.

I have found that if I go first to last name after selecting create new
contact, I can enter the last name then go back to the first name field enter
that, and then hit done.

If that isn't working, then definitely contact Apple.

 Hi,

It would be great if someone could confirm this or else tell me what I’m
doing wrong.

Whenever I get a call from an unknown number for which I want to create a
new contact, I find I can’t type anything into any of the edit fields such as
first or last name or email. This is true with both the onscreen keyboard as
well as a bluetooth keyboard.

Simply adding a new contact (not from an unknow number) works fine.

If this is a bug I will report it to Apple.

Thanks,

Kim
