Re: Question About the New Classic Shell Phone

2020-06-14 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I have had very good support from Verizon. When I was deciding which
phone plan to go with, once I got my iPhone 8, the rep went all
available plans and he gave me what he thought what would be the best
plan for me once I told him how much I could afford. I also get great
coverage as well with very few dropped calls.

Re: Question About the New Classic Shell Phone

2020-06-14 Thread Shirley Baker
I understand about not wanting to make payments for awhile. Just got through
making payments on my iPad pro in May and my iPhone in January. Just wanted to
point out one more thing that the Verizon rep said and that is you don't get
sometimes good support from other carriers or people willing to help like you
do with Verizon and coverage is another thing she pointed out to me too and
those were pretty much the deciding factors for me.
She told me this when I said I thought Verizon was a little more expensive than
other carriers.

Way to go Shirley!

My opinion is that it's best to buy a phone from the carrier because it's set
up with the sim card and stock apps. I know Verizon is helpful with set up
procedures as I also am on Verizon.

The SE is looming I think. However, I would like to wait until the new iPhones
come out in the fall because there will be plenty of sales for sure. I just
finished paying for my iPhone 8 and would like to stay away from payments for a

RE: How to add a book from voice dream reader to drop box?

2020-06-14 Thread chaltain
Although no fan of iTunes, Russ isn't the only one who's used it for file
sharing. I don't use it for file sharing anymore since I have so many other
options, like Apple Music and One Drive.

Although it has a unique interface, I find it accessible. I always thought it
was interesting that blind people would extol the benefits of Winamp, which
also has a very unique interface, but bash iTunes.

Although I'm not in a position anymore to explain to someone how to use iTunes
for file sharing, I hope someone is able to walk you through it, but I wonder
if it's worth their time since you've already decided that iTunes is a piece of
inaccessible crap.

Re: Pronunciation of a word

2020-06-14 Thread Richard Turner

However, in the case of my old hardware synth it was not possible to change it.
Fortunately, my next one had way more flexibility.
And, today, in the case of the Allison voice on iPhones, it will always
mispronounce the word "peace" as peas no matter how you spell it in the
pronunciation dictionary.
And, before anyone asks, I do not remember the name of the hardware synth.

Back in the day, it was actually the external synthesizer not the software, so
nothing could be done.
That was also on MS-DOS, so things were a little different then.
It was entertaining while not helpful, grin.

That has been the case in my 35 plus years of dealing with synthesized speech.
This is also true with hardware external synthesizers with computers.

My first speech synthesizer was hard wired to say "sugar" whenever the letters

One of my favorite guitarists is a man named Kazuhito Yamashita.
I did not know his name wasn't Yama-sugar-da for a very long time.

In my case the phone was unlocked (I almost never do lock it) and it was tried
with both the app closed and open. These calls were always prearranged ,I was
waiting for them so while there were other apps open in the background I wasn't
doing anything on the phone at the time.

way whether your synthesizer is a software or a hardware speech synthesizer.

I remember when I bought my SE from Consumer Celluilar, and they did offer two
kinds of protection, one being for repairs, and one for theft or loss
coverage.Man, it would have cost a bunch. Back when I had my 4S, my
daughter-in-love insisted I get that, she being a contender for screen cracking
championship, but it cost so much that it didn't take me long to drop those.
Every time I go into Settings, I am warned that I have three days left for some
sort of coverage like that that AT wanted to sell me. It's been three days
now for about three months - good old extensions, I guess.

Hi,

If you get it through your carrier, I wonder if what you have is
actually an insurance plan from them, rather than Apple Care. If that's the
case, it won't end at a specific time. If it is Apple Care, maybe your carrier
offers an insurance plan you can use after it ends.

I think personally that you need to set the

Re: difference between apple care, and apple care plus

2020-06-14 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi,

If you get it through your carrier, I wonder if what you have is actually an
insurance plan from them, rather than Apple Care. If that's the case, it won't
end at a specific time. If it is Apple Care, maybe your carrier offers an
insurance plan you can use after it ends.

Best,
Anna

Re: Pronunciation of a word

2020-06-14 Thread Richard Turner
Some voices will not change their pronunciation no matter what you do because
it is hardwired into that voice.
So, you have a choice: live with it, or find a voice that you can tolerate that
pronounces the words the way you want to hear them.
Remembering that some words are probably still not going to be the way you are
used to.
That has been the case in my 35 plus years of dealing with synthesized speech.
This is also true with hardware external synthesizers with computers.

My first speech synthesizer was hard wired to say "sugar" whenever the letters
s h i t appeared alone or in a word.
One of my favorite guitarists is a man named Kazuhito Yamashita.
I did not know his name wasn't Yama-sugar-da for a very long time.

When you are in the voice itself and flick up on the default or enhanced voice,
there is a delete button. I don't know if it actually deletes it or not.

RE: ITunes For Windows Question

2020-06-14 Thread Richard Turner
iTunes for Windows hasn't done apps for quite a while now. It does music, Voice
Memos if you check that, and videos and overall backups like the encrypted
backup and the ability to do file transfers.
But apps are only handled on the iDevices now.
You of course can still update the device through iTunes and manage other
settings like the accessibility settings when setting up a new device.
I don't remember which version was the one when it stopped supporting app
downloads and transfers.
I think it was the same time that the Mac version was split into three parts.

I have a friend who recently got an IPhone SE who downloaded ITunes For
Windows. He says that it says it is only for music and videos, everything
else is done in the cloud. I know that ITunes, as one large program, is no
longer on the mac, having been divided into separate programs as it is in IOS.
But I thought Itunes For Windows was still the one program. If not, how does

If you do a web search for your question, you will find the difference.
I do not remember other than a huge price difference.
I do not believe it is renewable, but you could also simply call Apple and find

Probably you need a headset that is essentially goes over the head
while its microphone stays infront of your mouth at the time of its

headband. I used such headset of creative brand, don't know if it
would be available at your place though.

Re: Pronunciation of a word

2020-06-14 Thread Flor Lynch
It is unfortunate. I'd prefer if it were possible to correct the
pronunciation in the voice's dictionary rather than just generally by
VoiceOver (or the screen-reader in Windows, etc.)

Hi, all,
I'm sorry if this has been covered, but this is driving me batty.
When I hear the word "peace" on my iPhone, it is always pronounced "peas."
Now, it doesn't matter if I try to change the pronunciation in the correct
place in Settings. No matter what I do, and I have tried many, many things,
it always gives me the same outcome. I'm using the Alison voice if that
matters. Just drives me nuts. When I hear "Lord, please give me peace," I
don't want him to give me a scoop of veggies, so does anyone have any ideas
here?

TIA,

That is a massive file to try to download.
I hope you do not have Cloud Sync enabled, because you should never have large
files if you want Cloud sync to work.
And, dealing with that large of a file in any app is going to be challenging.
You really should ask Winston Chen directly: wins...@voicedream.com

Black Friday from Verizon. In fact, spoke to a lady

RE: Pronunciation of a word

I don't see that this is an apple issue rather than a voice and language
related issue,

I think personally that you need to set the dictionary for voiceover to say the
word pease correctly by setting the dictionary to use a word that may not be
correctly spelt but makes the word sound correct.
