RE: Problem with screen recognition

2021-06-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Thanks Donna! I had this problem with the NBA app this evening, and your
suggestion fixed the problem for me. I'll need to take back the positive things
I said about screen recognition.

Keynote is like PowerPoint for windows. You can make slides with it for
presentations. The reason that you got browse when you opened up reasons is
because you haven’t made any presentations with the software yet. It is pretty
simple to use with just a basic presentation. You should experiment with it.

RE: how to create a calendar event that increments each occurance

2021-06-10 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Dan,

I’m not sure how you would do this on a phone or tablet,
But on a mac computer you might be able to apple script something.

On the IOS platform there is a calendar for birthdays,
I don’t know if that gives you anything more but might be worth looking at.

Subject: how to create a calendar event that increments each occurance

I want to create a calendar event that will increment a count each time it
occurs. For example, I'd like to create an event for each of my
grandchildren's birthdays. I'd like it to indicate their age each time the
event comes around.

I assume I can do this by some how including some kind of control in the title
or a date or something but can't seem to find info on it.

Any ideas?

I use the calendar app native to the Iphone and Ipad. If I have to I can move
to another app but would rather not.

Thanks.

This afternoon, I opened coin master and voice over compleetly stooped working.
I went to my VO seetings and the screen recognition is still on but there is a

I turned the screen recognition off and turned it back on, went to apply to

Any idea on how to solve this?

two things, twitter and clubhouse

2021-06-10 Thread Lelia Struve
Hi all, first, what's up with twitter? I can't see all of my tweets.
As for clubhouse I have two questions. 1 Has anyone had problems trying to add
twitter? Also has anyone had problems being kicked out of the app?

I use screen recognition for apps that are perfectly accessible. I just find it
interesting to see what images are displayed next to different podcasts,

Hi,

Screen recognition improves the accessibility of some apps that are not fully
voiceover accessible. It helps improve image description & reads text that
voiceover may not be able to read.

I think it is important to note that screen recognition should under no
circumstances be on by default as it makes thing worse and in many cases
strange in many apps which are accessible as Donna said.
Even in Facebook it may give you access to the Back button, but it completely
changes most of the rest and the tabs across the bottom like News Feedd,
Friends, Groups, Market Place, Notifications and Facebook menu completely go
away.
Turn it on in the App Store and the "My Account" button becomes an unlabelled
button which just says "Button" and if you go to your Updates where it may say
"Update All, 2" and where you have "update" buttons for the apps which have
updates and "Open" buttons for those who are under the Recently Updated
section, all of that goes away.
It is best to make sure screen recognition is off in Voiceover Settings and to
have it in the rotor, this way if you are in an app where you have pfroblems
you can turn it on to see if it helps.

Best regards,
Sieghard

working. I had to go to the rotor and activate
it there, even though voiceover indicated that it was active.

Re: screen recognition on Iphone

2021-06-10 Thread Donna Casteen
Hi,

Screen recognition improves the accessibility of some apps that are not fully
voiceover accessible. It helps improve image description & reads text that
voiceover may not be able to read.

RE: VO Setting to make it read the changing values like the progress bar

2021-06-10 Thread Richard Turner
A progress bar, is an icon on the screen that shows your progress, most often
while downloading something.
But this setting called Watch Item, is not just for progress bars.
I could see using it on an app where information changes but VoiceOVer doesn't
automatically read it.
I personally have not found a place to apply this as yet.

I'm not so much interested in being right, but it is good to know this setting
exists. I was unaware of it.
Now, to find a situation where I want to use it.
I think your quadruple two finger tap is a good choice.

For me, there was no finger gesture, but there is an assigned

Probably VO key+shift+hyphen.

Hello,

By default Two-finger quadruple tap Watch Item.

So place Voiceover’s focus on say the progress bar you

Re: screen recognition on Iphone

2021-06-10 Thread Donna Casteen
Amy, If an app is already accessible with voiceover screen recognition does not
need to be on. Screen recognition is used in apps that are not 100% accessible.
A good example is Facebook. SR if turned on will give you access to the back
button, which may otherwise not be visible to voiceover. SR used with the
describe images feature will give descriptions of photos that may not be given
if describe images is only used. Using SR in Facebook to get descriptions of
photos is a good example to where extra photo description is useful.

Re: FaceTime on Android and Windows

2021-06-10 Thread Richard Turner
Joshua,
Do you have an extra crystal ball I could borrow? You seem to know something
works easier before its competition has even been released.
I know people who have torn their hair out over trying to share a video over
Zoom.
Time will tell if Apple's share play works any better, but that cannot be known
until it is released.

Just the fact that Apple is looking at a way to provide access to non-Apple

If this works well, it could replace Skype and Zoom and a few other things
if the screen sharing and all work as planned.

A big if, but possibly very good.

there are already so many options to choose from. Also, as a blind person, I
find using an application is generally preferable over using the web

I just realized there was a somewhat significant announcement on Monday at
WWDC that I have not seen any comments about.

Here is one little snippet from the web about it.

Apple is also adding the ability to share links to FaceTime calls, putting
the company in a better position to compete with the likes of Zoom. FaceTime
Links will allow for users across both the iOS and Android ecosystems to
join the same call. Windows and Mac users can also jump into calls through
their desktops.

Apple's FaceTime updates will be introduced with the release of iOS 15.
We'll have more to say about iOS 15, as well as the other announcements from
WWDC
2021,
so stay tuned to Shacknews for the latest news.

RE: how to create a calendar event that increments each occurance

2021-06-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I do something similar, although I haven’t done it with the Calendar app on the
iPhone. I create a calendar event for the birthday or anniversary which
includes the date. So for example, I’d create a recurring event for my dog’s
birthday starting on February 14, 2016. Obviously, it would be recurring
annually. It’s not the same as incrementing a counter, but it’s easy to figure
out the age from the calendar event.

Try adding a contact for them in your contacts list.
If the Birthdate field isn’t there, there is a button to add fields.
Add the birthdate field. And enter their birth date, which will include the
year.

Make sure that in your Settings, Calendar, the birthday calendar is selected so
it will show; don’t make it the default of course, but make sure it will show
up.
Then, I believe you will get what you are looking for.

Hi Dan,

Unfortunately, I don’t know an easy way to do this. The closest thing I could
come up with is when you create an event with their birthdays, put the year
they were borne in the notes section or title. That is the only way I can think
of. Sorry I couldn’t be of more assistance.

I assume I can do this by some how including some kind of control in the title

Any ideas?

I use the calendar app native to the Iphone and Ipad. If I have to I can move

RE: FaceTime on Android and Windows

2021-06-10 Thread Richard Turner
Well, we have only heard that it is a planned feature; no info about
implementation, accessibility, or anything; so being skeptical makes perfect
sense.
I'm sure once public beta testing begins, there will be more details around on
the web concerning this.

Just the fact that Apple is looking at a way to provide access to non-Apple
devices to FaceTime calls is worth taking note of.

If this works well, it could replace Skype and Zoom and a few other things if
the screen sharing and all work as planned.

A big if, but possibly very good.

I'm not sure how much this will open up the video conferencing world since
there are already so many options to choose from. Also, as a blind person, I
find using an application is generally preferable over using the web interface,
so I'm a bit skeptical of joining a Facetime video conference through my

I just realized there was a somewhat significant announcement on Monday at WWDC
that I have not seen any comments about.

Here is one little snippet from the web about it.

Apple is also adding the ability to share links to FaceTime calls, putting the
company in a better position to compete with the likes of Zoom. FaceTime Links
will allow for users across both the iOS and Android ecosystems to join the
same call. Windows and Mac users can also jump into calls through their
desktops.

Apple's FaceTime updates will be introduced with the release of iOS 15. We'll
have more to say about iOS 15, as well as the other announcements from WWDC
2021,
so stay tuned to Shacknews for the latest news.

Try adding a contact for them in your contacts list.
If the Birthdate field isn’t there, there is a button to add fields.
Add the birthdate field. And enter their birth date, which will include the
year.

Make sure that in your Settings, Calendar, the birthday calendar is selected so
