Subject: RE: Accessible smoker?

I just started selling Louisiana Grill pellet smokers/barbecues and while I
only just brought them in I think the app can be used. I had the sales rep at
my store doing a demo and I had the app on my phone and I was able to adjust
the temperature and see the target temperature as well as the current
temperature and also the temperature of the 2 meat [probes we had connected.
The model we used and which I will take home for myself is the Founders series
1200 premium which is their largest size, but the app which is called SmokeIt
works also with the Louisiana Grill Black Label series which comes in 3 sizes,
the 800, 1000 and 1200, here in Canada they sell for $1,099, $1,199 and $1,299
respectively.
The Founders series 1200 Premium is $1,599 Canadian and there is only one model
above this which is the Founders series Legacy which is the same size as the
other 1200 models, but it's all double wall stainless steel with insulation so
it can be used even throughout the winter in colder temperatures and it also
has a few other things included which are optional for the other grills like a
side shelf, a griddle etc. The Black Label series grills can take up to 2 meat
probes, the Founders series can take up to 4 and the pellet hopper on the
Founders series is quite a bit larger than on the Black Label.
These are very good, high quality products which come with what I believe is an
industry leading 5-year warranty and I don't think that except for the cable
and maybe the knobs I have seen much plastic on them, it's all steel and I
assume aluminum. Concorde Distributing which owns the Louisiana Grill brand
also owns Pitt Boss which is their more entry level line and they also own
Jackson Grill which are traditional propane barbecues and they also own
BlazeKing wood stoves and several other brands.

Best regards,
Sieghard

I use a Pit Boss vertical pellet smoker. The knob to set the temperature is
operated by clicks at 25 degree increments. I don't have a Wifi model, but I
use the iGrill meat probes which work very well. I also have a small Traeger
Ranger pellet grill, but it is more difficult to operate. I use Aira when
getting the temp set on it, and then use the iGrill meat probes connected to my
phone via bluetooth. I haven't tried any of the smokers that connect to my
Wifi. Hope this helps.

RE: Accessible smoker?

2021-07-05 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Waw, big pricing for smokers,

I'm guessing though for those prices they are pretty good at what they do.

I'm sitting at a café in the courtyard and there are a couple of smokers on
another table,

I'm guessing they don't work as well.

Sorry, I should have mentioned as well if you are looking for a traditional

only one which was backordered when I got my last shipmenbt. I don't have yet

price tag or not I don't know, but certainly less expensive than many of the
higher-end wood pellet smoker barbecues, but then of course it's only a smoker
and not also a bbq..

Taking a device off of your account and resetting the device to factory settings

2021-07-05 Thread Mary Otten
I’m actually talking about an Apple TV here, not a phone, but I’m guessing the
process is the same. It’s been along time since I’ve gotten rid of a phone. I
certainly know how to go in and take the device away from my Apple ID so that
it’s not on my account anymore. And I also know to go into settings and system
and reset to factory defaults. What I’m not sure of is which one do I do first?
Does it matter? I assume it might.

Re: Free Calendar App?

2021-07-05 Thread Dave Clement
Hello,

The app is called "vo calendar". It is a simple calendar app designed to work
with Voiceover gestures. It displays the current week's events in a simple list
format. At the bottomof the screen are four buttons: "settings", "Other
month", "previous week", and "next week".

Double tap on the day of the week to get a simple list of events for that day.
At the end of the list of events is a "enter new event" button, a "back"
button, and a "record memo" button.

Adding a new event will walk you through entering the partofthe day, the hour,
the minutes, and a text description for the event.

Double tapping an event willallow you to alter the test description, the part
of the day, the time, move the event to another day,or delete the event.

The app does not support repeating events, alarms, alerts,or reminders. It is a
simple calendar app but it is very easy to use and integrates with your IOS
calendar. Itcan be used along with the IOS calendar app or other calendar apps
like FantastiCal.

I hope this helps.

With all of the new HomeKit things coming out and Internet of things stuff
in general, I’m wondering if anyone knows of an accessible smoker. I know
there are some with some very fancy price tags which claim to have
connectivity. I’m just wondering if those are really usable totally

RE: Free Calendar App?

2021-07-05 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I had Microsoft 365 at one time with another ID, but I let that lapse, and I
still need to sign up with my current ID, so I’m not exactly sure why my status
is with Microsoft 365 and the account I’m using now. I do have a free Microsoft
account that I’m using now. That’s why I’m saying people should check their own
milage because I can’t say for sure what you get with the free Microsoft
account. There are some features that integrate with Microsoft 365
applications, like the task list in Outlook, but if you have Microsoft 365 then
you’ll get those features and if you don’t then you won’t be interested in
them. Bottom line is that I’m pretty sure Microsoft To Do is a perfectly usable
stand alone to do list app, and I still encourage people to check it out for
themselves if they’re looking for a to do list app.

BTW, here’s what it says in the App Store including the end where it let’s you
know what you get with MS 365 integration. The direct URL is at

If so, you will get all features of the app.
I have Microsoft 365 so I cannot speak to whether some features are unavailable
without having a subscription to Microsoft 365.
I suspect you need to at least create a free Microsoft account, or is that not

the Microsoft To Do application on my desktop and the To Do app on my iPhone,
and I’m not running into any limitations that I can see. Not only that, but I
find it to be the best to do list I’ve ever used. I find it very powerful and

getting the temp set on it, and then use the iGrill meat probes connected to my

Some say I often have a defeatist attitude, but I think that screen recognition
has a lot of work to go before it, as it were, gets right. The Amazon app is
the one I tried with it, with the same results as with the original question in
this thread. I finally got screen recognition turned off and will wait for it
to get better, hopefully in IOS 15, before messing with it again, unless I find
an app that just won't work without it. I may then try it again, but I think
it is a potentially good idea that definitely needs some work.

Firstly, check that Screen Recognition is not turned on for Amazon. This has
often been found to be the culprits for apps not speaking correctly!

Run the Amazon app and launch Task Switcher. Place Focus on the Amazon app.
If enabled turn the Rotor to Screen Recognition and if enabled flick up to turn
it off. Quit the Amazon app and relaunch it. Does it work correctly now?

RE: Corrupted Amazon app

2021-07-05 Thread Steve Sweeney
Hi,
It is on some models but it doesn't fix the app problem which in my case is the
speaker shutting off when the app is opened. I did however find a work around
that solves the problem for me.
After opening the Alexa app, go to the home screen. Next, open the App
Switcher. Select the Alexa app from the App Switcher and double tap it. When
the Alexa app is selected and is on screen it will work fine.
Don't know if this will work for all phone models but it does for my 2020 SE.

RE: Blocking unwanted messages on the native app

2021-07-05 Thread Noe Villeda
Hi Martin,

What I do, is swipe up to more options, and move the message to junk. You can
probably also set a rule to move unwanted messages to your trash folder.

Hope this helps.

Gmail accounts handle that on the web site for gmail.
You can set up filters there so you never see them in your inbox.
I know it can do this, but I cannot give you steps.
Someone else may be able to.

But, as of yet, the native mail app has no filtering other than maybe try
double tapping on more actions and select move to junk.
That may then move other messages from that sender to junk; or try move to
trash, I'm not sure if that works since I get relatively few junk emails.

Thanks for the info on screen recognition. Evidently, it's not a feature

 Hi,

To get screen recognition in the rotor, go to settings, accessibility,
voiceover & swipe down to rotor, tap to open, swipe down to screen
recognition& tap to add to the rotor. Here is a FYI when using screen
recognition- If you are in an app with screen recognition turned on, the
app becomes unusable or voiceovers focus jumps to the status bar, use the
following steps to easily turn screen recognition off: 1. Open the app
switcher. 2. Swipe to the app that you need to turn screen recognition
off. 3. Turn the rotor to screen recognition & use 1 finger & flick to
turn screen recognition off. 4. turn the rotor off of screen recognition,
then use 1 finger & tap to open the app. Or you can close the app
switcher. The next time the app is opened screen recognition will be off.

Do you have Microsoft 365?

If so, you will get all features of the app.
I have Microsoft 365 so I cannot speak to whether some features are unavailable
without having a subscription to Microsoft 365.
I suspect you need to at least create a free Microsoft account, or is that not
true. Again, I have all that so I cannot test it as if I didn't without
logging out of my account and I just am too lazy right now to do that.

To do is not a free app as such,

For it to work you need to have paid for the to do feature within Microsoft

Otherwise to do is a frre app to install but has next to no functionality

If you haven't already, you might want to give Google Calendar a spin. They put
effort into making their software accessible. Microsoft has a free app called
Microsoft To Do but that's more for task management. There are tons of calendar
apps and there may be accessible ones undiscovered by blind people. However,
the only ones I know about are paid apps. Google Calendar is likely the best
bet for something accessible and totally free.

Re: is there an advantage to BARD Express?

2021-07-05 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
That feature which is very cool, doesn't always work. I can think of
a couple of examples, like the Harry Potter series, or the
Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz. If you download one of the books
in the Harry Potter series, and flip up on a title in your bookshelf
on bard mobile, one choice you have, is all books by J. K. Rowling.
If you double tap on this choice, nothing comes up. I'll have to
write to nlsdownload @loc.gov and see if they can look into it. I'll
also get Don Olson on it as well. Robin, if you need any help setting
up bard express, please let me know.

RE: is there an advantage to BARD Express?

2021-07-05 Thread R Van Lant
Thank you all. Glad I asked this question I will likely download the app
soon and give it a whirl. One of my favorite features in the BARD mobile app
is that you can flick up on a book and pull up other books by the author or in
that category, etc. This has been my new way to look for books in a series or
by the same author, but I think there will be times when I'm looking for
specific books that the BARD express app and my laptop keyboard will be the
preferred way.

Robin, I use bard express all the time to quickly add books to my wish list so
I can later download them to my iPhone. If you use bard express to do your
searches, one advantage is, you can use your computers keyboard to execute your
search. Once you've found your book, or books you want to add to your wish
list, just, hit the spacebar to check each book you want to be added to your
wish list.
Just then hit the tab key where you will hear add to wish list. Hit enter and
there you go. Another advantage of bard express, is the list of book series on
bard. Say, I wanted to read the Dirk Pitt series by Clive Cussler. I want the
entire series to be added to my wish list, so, I can just read one book and
download each book after finishing the previous one. I open bard express and
hit control g and wait for the program to bring up the series list. I use
first letter navigation to quickly find Dirk Pitt series. After I hit enter, I
now see the 25 books in the series. I then just hit control a to select all 25
titles. By selecting all 25 titles, I have automatically checked all the books
I wanted to be added to my wish list all at once. I don't have to sit and hit
my spacebar 25 times to check all
25 books. I then tab to add to wish list, hit enter and very quickly, I now
have the entire Dirk Pitt series added to my wish list, ready to be downloaded
on my iPhone. All these steps may sound like a lot of work, but it is really
simple. I often use bard express to add the books to my wish list every time I
check for recently added books.

Hi, Malcolm,

Funnily enough, I have that exact same battery from Anker. I love it since it's
small but mighty, and fits in my small purse quite comfortably. I also like
that it has a trickle charging mode for devices with batteries under 50 MAH.
Incidentally, Richard, that's what that little button on the top is for, if you
get this battery--for putting it into trickle charging mode.

I do have a question for you, though, Malcolm. With my other gigantic Anker
battery that also charges via USB C, there's a button on it that switches the
state of the USB C charging port from the port charging something else, such as
my Microsoft Surface, to the port charging the battery itself. The first
battery I spoke of doesn't have this same button, which is why I'm wondering
how it knows when you want to charge something with that port or have the
battery be charged from that port. Any ideas? I know the reasoning behind the
port having two states--because USB C is bidirectional--but it does make it
slightly confusing. I will say that the Anker redux battery does get it right
every time, as far as I'm aware; every time I want to charge my Surface, it
does so beautifully--not that you'll get a great charge from it, but still. And
evevery time I want the battery to charge itself, it just does. If it didn't,
every time I went to use it after being plugged in for a few hours after using
it to charge my phone twice or charge my Surface a little bit, it would be dead.

Sorry for this sort of off-topic question.

Thanks,

Ari

I suspect that the connecter uses different pins for its charging and
discharging circuitry or it detects whether you are drawing or supplying
current to the port.

I have not seen a battery pack that has a switch to change its state.

Of course the older packs that charged via Micro USB did not require such
circuitry due to the nature of that connection method.

I find Anker battery packs to be a good and reliable product.

Incidentally if you have a Power Delivery rated charger and cable the pack
charges quite quickly in about 3 hours from flat.

How do you know when to charge the battery pack?

Thanks,

Ari

I'd really like to know how to get screen recognition in the rotor in the

Firstly, check that Screen Recognition is not turned on for Amazon. This
has often been found to be the culprits for apps not speaking correctly!

Run the Amazon app and launch Task Switcher. Place Focus on the Amazon
app. If enabled turn the Rotor to Screen Recognition and if enabled flick
up to turn it off. Quit the Amazon app and relaunch it. Does it work
 correctly now?
