2021-07-26 Thread Michelle Wagner
Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone else is having trouble with Facebook loading? Are use
voiceover on my iPhone and it started last night that it seems like it’s trying
to load but when I run my finger over the screen there’s nothing there. I tried
uninstalling and reinstalling and that didn’t help either. Any suggestions
would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: TV in the lockou screen

2021-07-26 Thread Richard Turner
Once you find it stopped, try tapping the home button if you can without
actually unlocking it, then do the two finger double tap; and see if it starts
playing again.
I have to do that even with my newer SE 2020 with apps like Disney plus.

Re: Anyone else getting no response from Hey Siri?

2021-07-26 Thread Alan Lemly
Thanks for your replies. Hey Siri is now working correctly. I reported the
issue to Apple Accessibility who said they weren't showing any Siri issues. I'm
not convinced since I was definitely getting aberrant behavior that lasted over
an hour but now appears resolved. Typical technology. If we didn't have these
hiccups, I guess we wouldn't be as good at figuring things out.

It had responded while the phone was locked earlier in the betas, so I
think this is worth watching and if it continues beyond today, a report to
Apple will be in order.

Subject: Anyone else getting no response from Hey Siri?

Hi List,

I know the Apple system and Siri burps from time to time like all
technology but thought I’d ask the list if anyone else is not getting a
response from Hey Siri this morning. I’ve double checked my Siri settings which
are all set properly and set to work when my iPhone is locked but I’m getting
no response from her at all whether the phone is locked or not. I’m just
curious if others are experiencing this too. I’m running iOS 14.7 on an iPhone
SE 2020.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for confirming. I figured that is what it was because that bug is also
not present in the beta.
At least, not at the moment.
Maybe they can keep from breaking braille again in this next version.

Editing messing up their email; did 14.7 or now 14.7.1 fix that issue?

They did not specify the fix other than to say "According to the release notes

2021-07-26 Thread Richard Turner
Thanks Sieghard,
This is news to me as well.
The article I found, which was dated about a year before this article, said
windows did not support HEIC format. So, that article was wrong since in the
article you mention says windows 10 could handle these files since 2018 I
think.

After turning off iCloud photos and copying the files from my phone to my
computer, there are no HEIC files.
This could be only used for iCloud photos or some such thing.
O well.

I find little reason why you would want to convert photos to JPG if they are in
the HEIC format since Windows 10 can normally open them just fine and if not a
simple download of an extension from the Microsoft Store ensures you can
definitely open them. Here is an article from WindowsCentral explaining this:

Here’s the deal: The HEIF image format, which Apple uses ever since iOS 11 in
the form of HEIC files, is a great alternative to JPEG. But HEIC is still not
yet adopted widely.

Today, we’d like to introduce you to our simple, secure & 100% free WALTR HEIC
Converter. It converts HEIC to JPG via drag & drop. Oh and as usual, it’s
beautifully designed.

RE: Anyone else getting no response from Hey Siri?

2021-07-26 Thread Carolyn
Alan, my husband, Jim, and I each have had two such episodes this past week. I
wondered if it was associated with 14.7? I'm glad you mentioned this, as I had
told him I might bring it to the list's attention to see if anyone else had the
problem.

Subject: Anyone else getting no response from Hey Siri?

Hi List,

I know the Apple system and Siri burps from time to time like all technology
but thought I’d ask the list if anyone else is not getting a response from Hey
Siri this morning. I’ve double checked my Siri settings which are all set
properly and set to work when my iPhone is locked but I’m getting no response
from her at all whether the phone is locked or not. I’m just curious if others
are experiencing this too. I’m running iOS 14.7 on an iPhone SE 2020.

Thanks in advance.

RE: This may help in photos conversion.

2021-07-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I find little reason why you would want to convert photos to JPG if they are in
the HEIC format since Windows 10 can normally open them just fine and if not a
simple download of an extension from the Microsoft Store ensures you can
definitely open them. Here is an article from WindowsCentral explaining this:

How to open HEIC and HEVC files in Windows

Here’s the deal: The HEIF image format, which Apple uses ever since iOS 11 in
the form of HEIC files, is a great alternative to JPEG. But HEIC is still not
yet adopted widely.

Today, we’d like to introduce you to our simple, secure & 100% free WALTR HEIC
Converter. It converts HEIC to JPG via drag & drop. Oh and as usual, it’s
beautifully designed.

RE: Moving photos off IPhone

2021-07-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I appreciate the suggestion, but since I usually use the Details view which
shows me file type, size, date etc. I have my photos displayed in a list.
Anyways, if there are only 59 files in the folder then it really makes no
difference if you get to them by going up and down or left and right, Jaws
tells you the number of files in the folder and I can assure you that this does
not match the number of photos on my iPhone.

After suggesting to connect the iPhone to the computer with the Lightning cable
I thought I better try it because I must admit that I had not done this in a
very long time. First of all, it is very important that after you connect the
phone that you tap "Allow" when you are prompted if you want to give access to
the phone, this is on the phone and it actually requires you to enter your
passcode just like after a restart of the phone.
Once I did this and opened File Explorer I did have "Apple iPhone" under
removable devices. Pressing enter on it opened it and showed me a sub folder
called "Internal Storage" and pressing enter on this showed me another sub
folder called "DCIM" which is often the folder you get as well on the SD Card
of a digital camera, it stands for "Digital Camera Images".
After opening that subfolder I had two more subfolders, they were "100Apple"
and "100Cloud".
All of this seemed perfectly fine, but once I checked these two last subfolders
things got a bit strange because while I have over 600 pictures and videos on
my phone, the 100Apple folder only had 59 images in it and most of them seemed
to be live pictures which consist of a JPG file and a second file which is
called the same name but has a .MOV extension.
In the 100Cloud folder I only had 10 pictures so obviously many pictures on my
phone were not there and I have no idea why this is the case.
I was able t use both the "Copy" and "Move" command to copy or remove a picture
from the phone and place it in a folder on my computer, but of course that is
of little use if most of the images which are on the phone are not showing up
in these folders.
I have to check my settings on the phone to see if maybe I have it set to
offload pictures to iCloud after a time although that probably is not the case
because while some of the pictures on the phone were quite recent, I also saw
some which go back to 2018 and even 2017. A call to Apple Accessibility might
be in order if I can't find an answer first by doing a Google search, but it
would appear that this method of getting images off your phone may not be a
reliable method if most of the pictures are not showing up.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Nancy,

A simple method for Windows without using iTunes is to use OneDrive.
The app synchronizes with OneDrive in Windows 10. The photos will be backed up
to the cloud and downloaded to your Windows hard drive.

Thank you, Richard, for that sage advice. Locking the phone and turning off the
device and then unlocking the phone makes perfect sense. The TV APP is one of

Hi Malcolm,
Yes, I politely, more than once, approached them about accessibility and got a
similar, brush-off, response.
The Apple platform is certainly no more open to programmers than Windows, and I
suspect perhaps even less-so according to some programmers I know.
So, I think the reality is, they don’t want to mess with windows.
I have certainly praised them for what works well.
But, I can hopefully vent the reality of my frustrations here so people don’t
think if they use their products, it will be smooth sailing…

I agree with you Richard, but when I tackled them about accessibility some time
ago they placed the blame firmly on Windows saying the platform was far less
accessible to them than Apple.

I know Apple products have their faults and that is hardly surprising given
their complexity but sometimes one has to stop and be thankful for what they do
for us when you compare them with other products and platforms.

Yes constructively criticise when things can and should be improved but a well
done and thank you go a long way too!

The WALTR pro software is great for getting files onto the iPhone into

haven’t a bloody clue about accessibility and don’t seem in any mood to change

I agree with you Richard, but when I tackled them about accessibility some time
ago they placed the blame firmly on Windows saying the platform was far less
accessible to them than Apple.

I know Apple products have their faults and that is hardly surprising given
their complexity but sometimes one has to stop and be thankful for what they do
for us when you compare them with other products and platforms.

Yes constructively criticise when things can and should be improved but a well
done and thank you go a long way too!

It had responded while the phone was locked earlier in the betas, so I

RE: A Braille Device Question

2021-07-26 Thread Richard Turner
Dwayne,
That is mostly user choice.
But, remember that iPhones and braille displays have a fragile relationship.
You don't want to turn on or off the braille display unless the phone is locked.
Some movies/tv show apps stop playing when you lock the phone, well, they
pause. IN any case, they often will continue with just a two finger double tap
even though the phone is locked. So, try locking the phone, turning off the
display, then unlock the phone if necessary.
You only really need the braille display on if you are reading captions.
HTH,

yet adopted widely.

RE: Moving photos off IPhone

2021-07-26 Thread Richard Turner
Along the same lines as what Sieghard has discovered, I found the same thing.
I also found that there is a file format HEIC, which Apple began using in 2017
that you may run into.
Those files are explained in an article that I will give the link to, but the
bottom line is they are useless on a Windows machine without conversion
according to the article. There is a free online converter, but I have not
tried it as yet. This article should help.

Subject: RE: Moving photos off IPhone

Nancy,

A simple method for Windows without using iTunes is to use OneDrive.
The app synchronizes with OneDrive in Windows 10. The photos will be backed up
to the cloud and downloaded to your Windows hard drive.

RE: Moving photos off IPhone

2021-07-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

RE: Anyone else getting no response from Hey Siri?

2021-07-26 Thread Richard Turner
I'm not getting a response other than the initial beeps when the phone is
locked, but the normal response if the phone is unlocked.

I'm running the beta, but since Siri is system wide, I doubt that has anything
to do with it.

It had responded while the phone was locked earlier in the betas, so I think
this is worth watching and if it continues beyond today, a report to Apple will
be in order.

Hey Duane,

You could try turning on the wifi calling feature this might help the dropping
calls issue.
Find this setting in the settings app, scroll down to Phone and then locate the
wifi calling option and turn it on.

RE: Moving photos off IPhone

Hmm, I hope you just didn't check your SIRI dictation and meant to say that
"I've helped that young lady before" and not that "I felt this young lady
before"! 藍

Another good reason to really check your dictation before sending.

Richard, I was only pointing out the most easy and accessible way. Because I
know iTunes can definitely be a problem on Windows. She doesn't use a Mac. I
felt this young lady before.

Joseph,
I was not going to mention iTunes; the most clumbsy way invented.
But, Keven's method of using Windows explorer is the most efficient and
accessible way if you have more than a few photos.
Once copied on to either a flash drive or hard drive, you can go back to that
folder, and delete them off the phone.
Just don't delete the folder.

Hi Kevin, yes you could do the same with an android. However on android, you

Hi.

I had a bunch of photos on my iPhone. I connected it to my Windows PC. I went
into Windows Explorer. My phone was something I could select. I found a folder
on it with all my photos. I got them that way.

Wonder if an Android phone works the same way?

Just saying.
