RE: Guess I have more configuring to do Was: Reading notifications on the lock screen

2022-11-10 Thread Katrina Anderson
First of all, I’m pleased that my ramblings somehow proved helpful to Donna and
Debbie. Mohammad, maybe Donna or Debbie can describe what worked for them, but
honestly, I didn’t exactly provide step by step instructions. If you read my
prior message that is way down below, you will find that I stumbled into
setting things up so that Siri reads notifications on the lock screen. In the
event it proved helpful, I was just sharing my experience, but honestly I don’t
feel confident enough to advise anybody about this. However, Debbie/Donna used
my description of the journey through settings to get Siri to read
notifications, so you might scroll way down there and read what I wrote, and
hopefully it will prove helpful to you as well.

How to pair hearing aids with the iPhone?

2022-11-10 Thread Kay Malmquist

Hi all,
That is the question. How can I pair my Resound hearing aids with my
iPhone. I went in to accessibility and then to hearing devices and saw that
the phone was searching. I don't know if Resound is an MFI device or if I
have to go to Bluetooth to set them up. I did not put my aids in to pairing
mode to try it out though. and then, the next question. Pair both or just
one? If anyone knows, please let me know also. Thanks much.

Well it worked fine Tuesday. Looks like an upgrade to the app came in and
accessibility is broken. Its freezing and you cannot choose a tab, or pick a

What Does 'Confirm with Side-Button' Mean?

2022-11-10 Thread Mohammad Fazil
Hi, group.
What does ‘Confirm with side-button’ mean?
I am asking this is because Voiceover asked me for this when I tried to
download Google Calendar.
How can I confirm this, please?
I have iPhone12 with iOS16X.
Thanks!

RE: Upgraded to iPhone 14 Pro and have questions

2022-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You may find a glass screen protector useful. They are a bit thicker and mine
has a good-size cutout at the top where the earpiece speaker and camera is and
I can put my finger just on the bottom edge of that and slide down for the
control centre or further down for notification centre. Same way I can put my
finger just on the bottom edge of it and I hear the little pop sound which
indicates you can now slide up for going back to the home screen or slide up
further to bring up app switcher.
By the way, if you put your finger near the top to look for a back button and
control centre comes up this means you are putting your finger too high and
then you must be swiping down a bit since control centre will not come up
unless you swipe down from the top.
As I said in my other post, try a single touch with 4 fingers in the top half
of the screen, if a back button is present at the top left this should also
take you there.
Also remember the Voiceover practice area in Settings > Accessibility >
Voiceover, it's a good place to go and practice your swipes and taps.

Katrina. Here's a tip about using the gestures to get to the control center.
Go to the top of your phone where you feel kind of a straight line and kind of
an indentation on the phone. This is your speaker grill for your earpiece
speaker. If you slide your finger down from this point, you should get to your
control center. Good luck.

RE: Upgraded to iPhone 14 Pro and have questions

2022-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Correct, pressure makes no difference although pressing down hard while you are
trying to slide up smoothly certainly isn't intuitive for me, but I just tried
it by touching at the bottom and pressing down just about as hard as I could
and still slide my finger and the app switcher came up just fine. Having said
this, a light touch is perfectly fine here.

I find at least with the case I have which isn't really very thick that back
tap does not work reliably for me. But you can also assign gestures to various
single, double, triple and quadruple finger taps and slides.
You may want to go to Settings > Accessibility > Voiceover > Commands > Touch
Gestures and swipe through the list and see if any taps are unassigned and you
could then for example assign "move to first item" to a particular tap.
In my case, I have this assigned to a single finger triple tap and I use a
single finger quadruple tap for "move to last item". Since the "back" button is
always the first item at the top left of the screen I can do a single finger
triple tap anywhere I want to find it and it will jump there. Of course you may
be OK with the gesture which is already in plaace for that, a single tap with 4
fingers in the top half of the screen or, to go to the last item, do a single
tap with 4 fingers on the bottom half of the screen. The reason why I assigned
other gestures for these two actions is because I lost my sight in an accident
involving explosives a very long time ago and I also had very bad hand injuries
and only have 3 fingers on each hand so a 4-finger tap for me means I need to
use 2 hands and it's not at all quick and easy to do and for the same reason
braille input is out of the picture for me.

I agree it takes some practice and getting used to, but I never found that
pressure made any difference, unless of course too much pressure kept the
gesture from being smooth or too little pressure meant it didn't register.

It does take a bit of practice. Your touch can't be completely light with no
pressure at all, but just a very small amount of pressure. To much pressure
deffinately does not work. I never did figure out how to do the scrub gesture.

Re: Guess I have more configuring to do Was: Reading notifications on the lock screen

2022-11-10 Thread Donna Casteen
Katrina,You win the Apple Award today!!! Your instructions to get Siri to speak notifications on the lock screen worked perfectly!! Thanks for restoring my sanity! DonnaIt appears my work isn’t done yet. I had written a message for Apple Accessibility, and was seconds from sending it, when a notification came in to the lock screen.  A tone announced the notification had arrived and Siri only spoke when I swiped right, and that is when the notification was actually read.  Back to the drawing board, I decided to look at the various settings related to the News app, because earlier a News notification was read by Siri and the notification that just arrived and didn’t speak was also from the News app.   I found News was set up to receive notifications, including on the lock screen, under Notifications.  Under Accessibility/Siri, just to the right of “Announce Notifications on Speaker”, I clicked on “Announce Notifications”.  After confirming News was set to on, I clicked on “News and found “Time Sensitive Notifications” was selected for what would be announced.  I changed the setting to “Always”, and hopefully notifications from News will all now be spoken/read on the lock screen.  I will now have to go through all the other apps to see if they are set correctly.  My goodness, does this have to be so complex?   I of course updated the message to Apple Accessibility before sending it. Katrina From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Katrina AndersonSent: Wednesday, November 9, 2022 11:19 AMTo: viphone@googlegroups.comSubject: RE: Reading notifications on the lock screen I just realized Chris and CJ were replying to Debbie’s message, rather than mine, so perhaps my input isn’t needed.  However, I may finally have stumbled into a positive direction and thought I’d share.  Two notifications just came in, and they were not only announced, but all of the notifications were read by Siri.  Unlike I feared, VO and Siri didn’t speak at the same time.   I’ll attempt to describe how I stumbled onto where I currently am.  As mentioned in prior messages, I had been reluctant to turn on the setting for Siri to announce notifications, hoping to prevent hearing VO and Siri speaking at the same time, so asked if I should turn on the setting for Siri to announce notifications.  An answer wasn’t provided, so I decided to turn on the setting, under notifications, for Siri to announce notifications; it didn’t make a difference.  I also tried turning on the setting, under Siri Suggestions, to announce notifications just for kicks; no change. After confirming the settings under Notifications Chris and CJ mentioned are correct, I systematically turned on/off anything under Notifications that relates to Siri and notifications.  Nothing I did caused notifications to be read on the lock screen. So, I went back to the settings under Siri/Search.  Once again, I systematically turned on/off settings; nothing changed.  I then went back to the Accessibility settings, under Siri, and proceeded in the same fashion; nothing changed.  I then decided to go back and turn on a lot of settings under Notifications, Siri/Search & Accessibility/Siri.  The last setting I activated was “Announce Notifications on Speaker”.  Shortly after, Siri announced the arrival of a notification and read the entire thing.  Was the key to turn on “Announce Notifications on Speaker”?  I’m not sure since I had that setting turned on at least once before.  It seems to me that the secret is to have a number of settings configured properly, and not just settings under notifications; kind of like a puzzle.  Maybe when I went through the settings, to set up the new phone, I changed a default setting that caused notifications to not be read on the lock screen. So, because Siri is giving me what I want, maybe I incorrectly was focused on notifications being read by VO; maybe Siri always read my notifications.  By the way, I set up two very different voices for VO and Siri, so I would know who was speaking.  I will of course share all of this with Apple Accessibility. KatrinaFrom: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Christopher ChaltainSent: Wednesday, November 9, 2022 9:18 AMTo: viphone@googlegroups.comSubject: RE: Reading notifications on the lock screen And it you’re talking about the lock screen, go into Settings -> Notifications and check whether you want your notifications to be displayed in a stack or a list and the show preview setting to determine if you want notification previews displayed on the lock screen or not.  --Christopher (AKA CJ) =>÷Chaltain at Outlook, USA From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Chris ChaffinSent: Wednesday, November 9, 2022 6:27 AMTo: viphone@googlegroups.comSubject: Re: Reading notifications on the lock screen  If you are referring to Voiceover automatically reading notifications when they come in, I am assuming that you have already checked this, but just in case, go
