Re: Bt keyboard question

2022-11-17 Thread Thom Spittle
Not a problem. I’m glad you got it working. So that right VO key and the arrows
simulate a three finger swipe. Left is a three finger swipe left. And right is
a three finger swipe right which is good on your home screen or Kindle. The up
and down are reverse of what you would normally do with three finger swipe. So
the right VO and the swipe up with three fingers which scratch that the right
video, and the up arrow will give you the notification Center, and the right
video, and the down arrow would give you the control center. What I was going
to tell you is the left the OK and the up arrow will take you to the top left
part of the screen and the left VO key and the down arrow will take you to the
bottom, right hand corner of the screen.

Hey Alex, the VO, or voice over keyboard command is a set of two keys
held down. It seems to vary, depending on the device and the keyboard.
Sometimes the VO keys are the first and the third key, sometimes the first
and the fourth key, and on most, Apple keyboards, the second and third
key. When I mentioned the right VO key, it would be the right hand key
that you would use for the voiceover combination. So if your device uses
the first and third key for the voice over command, then it would be the
third key would be your right VO key.

Re: Bt keyboard question

2022-11-17 Thread Thom Spittle
Hey Alex, the VO, or voice over keyboard command is a set of two keys held
down. It seems to vary, depending on the device and the keyboard. Sometimes the
VO keys are the first and the third key, sometimes the first and the fourth
key, and on most, Apple keyboards, the second and third key. When I mentioned
the right VO key, it would be the right hand key that you would use for the
voiceover combination. So if your device uses the first and third key for the
voice over command, then it would be the third key would be your right VO key.

OK, so there are two parts. The first one is using the VO keys and the letter M
to go to the status bar. The next step is to use just the right VO key and the
down arrow to simulate a three finger swipe up and that should open the control
center.

RE: Is this a potential security problem?

2022-11-17 Thread Carolyn
Mike, I never thought I'd know something you didn't about the iPhone. Go to
Accessibility, VoiceOver, and flick until you get to Attention. Go there, and
you'll find Attention Awareness. I think most of us turn it off.

Hi Christopher,

I've never heard of the Attention Awareness setting you mentioned. Is this
setting only available on some iPhones running iOS16, or is it available on all
iPhones with all iOS versions?

Also, where can this setting be found? Thanks mooy moocho.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Plus attention awareness is on by default, so this person would have to know
that blind people tend to turn attention awareness off and then be able to
snatch your phone away from you without you knowing it to keep you from just
turning your head. I guess technically touch ID also isn’t secure, since
someone could hit you over the head and then press your finger print to the
finger print sensor, which come to think of it, I see all the time when reading
these spy novels.

My initial reaction was that you are being New York paranoid.

It is just as likely that a mugger could wack a blind person on the head, and
put their finger on the device to unlock it if it has the home button.

I've never heard of either thing happening anywhere.

And, good luck to the thief who knows nothing about VoiceOver doing anything
with the phone. Which leads me to my personal approach. The screen curtain is
always on unless I need a sighted person's help, or want to show them
something. So, again, good luck to the person who could use face ID to unlock
my phone only to find a blank screen and something jabbering at them.

Also, if you are holding your phone out in front of you, rather than wearing it
in a harness for orientation or directions, you are putting yourself more at
risk.

2022-11-17 Thread Mike B.
Hi Christopher,

I've never heard of the Attention Awareness setting you mentioned. Is this
setting only available on some iPhones running iOS16, or is it available on
all iPhones with all iOS versions?

Also, where can this setting be found? Thanks mooy moocho.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Plus attention awareness is on by default, so this person would have to know
that blind people tend to turn attention awareness off and then be able to
snatch your phone away from you without you knowing it to keep you from just
turning your head. I guess technically touch ID also isn’t secure, since
someone could hit you over the head and then press your finger print to the
finger print sensor, which come to think of it, I see all the time when
reading these spy novels.

My initial reaction was that you are being New York paranoid.

It is just as likely that a mugger could wack a blind person on the head,
and put their finger on the device to unlock it if it has the home button.

I've never heard of either thing happening anywhere.

And, good luck to the thief who knows nothing about VoiceOver doing anything
with the phone. Which leads me to my personal approach. The screen curtain
is always on unless I need a sighted person's help, or want to show them
something. So, again, good luck to the person who could use face ID to
unlock my phone only to find a blank screen and something jabbering at them.

Also, if you are holding your phone out in front of you, rather than wearing
it in a harness for orientation or directions, you are putting yourself more
at risk.

it not be a bad idea to disable unlocking with Face ID? Or am I just being

I have never had to use pepper spray. The cans last for a few years
and have expiration dates posted on them. I am prepared to taste the
pepper spray, but I know most of it will go on the offender rather
than me.

I had only two incidents. One time I was wearing a pager on my belt.
The criminal followed me down a residential street, pushed me forward
and pulled the pager off my belt. This demonstrates that I would not
have been victimized if the criminals did not see the pager.

Another incident was in winter and I was in a transfer tunnel between
two subway lines at the afternoon rush. The criminal puts his arms
around me and pulls out the gloves and hat from coat pockets. I
started shouting about it and other passengers forced the criminal to
give me back my gloves and hat.

what about notification and dictation bugs in the public beta 3 of ios16?

Dear all

I knew that in Beta2 no VO bugs were resolved. How is BEta 3 running about
those dictation and notification bugs not showing up on the lock screen?

This is about public betas and I write this because if the problems have not
been addressed, we should all report again and again and again those bugs
after each new public beta version of ios16.2.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem? It makes managing my

More likely, the blind person will experience theft when a phone is left on a

I also have a strategy to prevent criminals from getting in my face and causing
problems to my safety. I carry around a two or three ounce can of Heatwave
brand pepper spray, Napalm strength. This is way more intense then the pepper
spray sold in most retail stores and even more intense and painful than the
pepper spray police use. Fox is another good brand. These pepper sprays drop
bad guys in seconds because they strip the protective oily layer on the surface
of the skin so pain is felt immediately. I get the fog version as a blind
person because it is difficult to aim a stream accurately. A three second blast
of Heatwave Napalm strength to a criminal putting a phone up to my face will
cause him to drop the iPhone and writhe in an inescapable cloud of intense and
sustained pain. Small belt pouches are sold for pepper spray cans so the
container is easily available within arm’s reach.

Adjusting volume of ear piece while on a phone call iOS 16.1.1

2022-11-17 Thread Shai
Hello,
While on a phone call on both an iPhone 13 pro and an iPhone10r, I
notice that I am unable to adjust the volume of the call on the ear
piece while in the phone app. In order to be able to successfully
adjust the volume on a call, I have to exit out of the phone app i.e
return to the home screen with VoiceOver and then I am able to
increase the volume. Has anyone else experienced this behavior or is
there a setting that could have been enabled to make it such that the
volume needs to be controlled in this manner? Speaker phone is not an
issue to adjust volume; only the ear piece.
Thank you in advance for any responses

Re: NaviLens

2022-11-17 Thread 'Sandy Tomkins' via VIPhone
Steve,

It iw more than alright! Thanks for posting, this was a very good and
informative interview/presentation and it sounds like people over there, on
your side of the pond, are as keen as we are here! So, now, how to make it
grow? Marty is right, was do need to up the profile of NaviLens for it to
become truly useful and available world-wide!

As this technology is software based and can run on all mobile platforms,
it can be used by anyone with a phone, which is getting to be nearly everyone!
Itruly think that this is the first bit of new technology, since the invention
of the screen-reader, to change our lives and open up the world to us.

I do hope that anyone who finds interviews, articles and new uses of
NaviLens will send them in here and we, in turn, can share them on...

Thanks again, nice work! Sandy and Zyon, who wants to go to one of those
camps you have over there!

Problem with sending mails using Imap settings of rediffmailpro from Iphone's native mail app

2022-11-17 Thread Ketan Kothari
Hi friends,

I have set up rediffmailpro account with Imap settings on my mail app
of Iphone 13 pro. I can receive mails right but when I try to send
mail I get an SMS to confirm by entering an OTP. Obviously this is
not possible all the time as OTP is to be entered on an external
site. Could anyone help? I can't unfortunately cannot change
rediffmailpro.

Thank you.

Best,

Ketan
