The Onscreen Keyboard Issue

2024-01-27 Thread Ron Canazzi

Hi Candy,

Using the Freedom Scientific Focus 40 Blue U Braille display, there is a
hot key that if the on screen keyboard does not show up you can press to
make it show up.  The unit must be connected when you do this. The hot
key is a Q chord on the display.  I do not know if this works for all
Braille displays.

That happened to me just yesterday. Not sure what I did but it eventually

I am also having this problem. I went so far as to have my phone forget all of
my bluetooth devices and the problem still persued. Then it was time to
download IOS 17.3. Then the problem corrected itself. I am typing this email
on a bluetooth keyboard, so I’m not sure what will happen when I turn the
keyboard off. This certainly is a miserable bug.

There seems to be a problem when you connect a Bluetooth braille display or
keyboard to the iPhone. After you turn off the device and want to use the on
screen, keyboard, it doesn’t show up. I do not have a fix for it, but I sure
would like to know how to fix it.

RE: Voicedream not downloading book share books.

2024-01-27 Thread Richard Turner
Mary,
I'm really sorry you are having such headaches. I took the liberty of
forwarding yours and Kimberly's emails to my contact at Applause group.
Frankly, they are uncovering a lot of bugs in the Voice Dream Reader app, but
they are also finding that iOS 17 has brought out a lot of issues that could
not have been foreseen.

Time will tell, but I have a feeling those of us who have been long time users
will have to subscribe, though at a slightly lower rate before too many more
months. I hope they get the issue you and Kimberly are experiencing resolved
before then.

Myself, I have not had that issue. IN fact, last week I bought myself a
refurbished iPad Mini 6.
When I set up Voice Dream Reader and elected to use iCloud, I was frankly
shocked at how smoothly that went. My phone is the 13 pro. I have quite a few
long audio books in mP3. The longest is Barbara Streisand's tome that at
normal speed I think is over 40 hours.
My entire library transferred and became available in a little less than an
hour.

I have not added a book from Bookshare on the iPad since, but I have added a
couple on the iPhone and they were available almost immediately.

Who knows what is ultimately responsible for this. It could be a range of
things, like wi-Fi speed, device resources, and of course, the mood of the
various Gremlins that like to interfere at times. 

I know this doesn't help.

It is in settings, general, transfer or reset iphone. When in there, tap the
reset button, and reset network settings is in there. You will have to log into
your wifi network again after reseting network settings, so be sure you know
your password. I am doubtful this will fix your problem, but it is worth a try
before doing the dreded reset all settings. It definitely would be worth
calling Apple Accessibility to see what they suggest.

You did turn off the one that says screen recognition, right?

Reboot and if still sluggish, I guess calling Apple is next.

Any thoughts?

Re: sluggish phone

2024-01-27 Thread Dan Yates
Sometimes, if my phone gets a bit damp, my screen will get a bit sluggish. Will
then takeoff the case and dry everything thoroughly and then put it back in as
well as shutting down the phone and restarting. This is always taken care of
that issue for me.

Unfortunately, phone still is sluggish, lagging, and slow to respond to

Any thoughts?

Re: no on-screen keyboard

2024-01-27 Thread Candy Lowe
I am also having this problem.  I went so far as to have my phone forget all of my bluetooth devices and the problem still persued.  Then it was time to download IOS 17.3.  Then the problem corrected itself.  I am typing this email on a bluetooth keyboard, so I’m not sure what will happen when I turn the keyboard off.  This certainly is a miserable bug.   Sent from my iPhone 15 Pro Max   On Jan 24, 2024, at 3:03 PM, Robert Doc Wright wrote:

There seems to be a problem when you connect a Bluetooth

want to use the on screen, keyboard, it doesn’t show up. I do not have a fix

Assuming that you have reset network settings and that didn't help, there is
always the reset all settings. If you go this route, be sure you have access to
sighted assistance, in case voice over does not come back on. In most cases it
does. But the one time I reset all settings, years ago on my iPhone 6, it did
not. I have had an iphone since October, 2012, and that is the only time I have
ever had to get sighted assistance to do something on it.

I have shut down my phone multiple times both hard and soft reset.

I even did a software update and am now on 117.3.

I am kind of at my wits end here. I have been using an iPhone for years. It
appears to me that something has gone on that I am unaware of.

Any more trouble shooting tips?

Thanks

RE: sluggish phone

2024-01-27 Thread Richard Turner
The main screen recognition setting is under settings, accessibility,
VoiceOver, VoiceOver Recognition.

I'm not sure what else to suggest.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I do regularly clear my app switcher. In any particular
app I have screen recognition off.

Is there a global screen recognition setting somewhere? If so where would I
find it?

I have shut down my phone multiple times both hard and soft reset.

I even did a software update and am now on 117.3.

I am kind of at my wits end here. I have been using an iPhone for years. It
appears to me that something has gone on that I am unaware of.

Any more trouble shooting tips?

Thanks

Re: Voicedream not downloading book share books.

2024-01-27 Thread Jenifer Barr
Hi. Have you tried logging out of bookshare (in vdr settings) and relogging in? Just a thought. Sent from my iPhoneOn Jan 26, 2024, at 8:00 PM, Kerry Macdonald wrote:Hi, over the last week or so I have been noticing that every time I try to add a title to my book share library through Voice Dream Reeder I keep getting a continuous message that says “waiting“. Re: Voicedream not downloading book share books.

2024-01-27 Thread Kimberly
I've had this problem for well over a year now. And even communicated with the developer about it but never got any sort of resolution. I can't even use Voice Dream anymore and don't even try. I am completely disillusioned with this app.Sent from Kimber's Red iPhone” those who seek to band books are wrong, no matter how dangerous books can be.“ Viet Thanh NguyenOn Jan 26, 2024, at 10:57 PM, Mary Otten wrote:It may well be because I have a big Voice Dream library. But if it says download complete, which it always does, I feel like I should be able to go into my library and see it’s there. Not unavailable. Why is it unavailable? And why God‘s name, since I have iCloud Sync enabled on both of my devices, why doesn’t that work? I don’t even open it on my phone anymore because there’s so many books that I’ve downloaded to my iPad that I know absolutely if I open my phone there’s going to be a massive problem. So I suppose I should just not have my phone answering with iCloud anymore. But then what do I do when I finally get a new phone  Probably next year? I just wish these people would get into the guts of this thing and fix it. Sent from my iPhoneOn Jan 26, 2024, at 7:53 PM, 'john riehl' via VIPhone wrote:Wow!! And then for whatever reason, it eventually becomes available. This was not the case before. I know I have a large library. But this is ridiculous. I thought they had fixed it. But now it’s just erratic as hell. I can pretty much count on downloading something on my iPad which is the fastest device I have, a mini six, it says it’s downloaded. I go there and they always say unavailable. And there’s a guessing game as to how I can magically make it become available. I don’t know who these folks are who took this over. But they’ve still got a problem. Before they add new features like new file types etc., I wish to God they would fix the problem they have with the basic download and hey this should be available right now, shouldn’t it? I’ve given up with my iPhone. I have a Voice Dream library on my iPhone and my iPad mini six. But the iPhone just doesn’t catch up ever. So I don’t open it ever. Stupid huh? I wish Winston had kept the app. These guys don’t know what they’re doing, or maybe they do, but then they should explain this stupid download problem. At least I’m not one of the poor suckers that has to keep paying for this app. I wouldn’t want to pay for it in the current state it’s in.
