Can't keep focus on money reader

Do you have to upgrade a phone to upgrade an operating system? -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Chris H Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2013 4:11 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: few interesting things in IOS 7 Well carriers may hate this but unlike the competitor there's nothing they can do as Apple has full control over the hardware and software. I am looking forward to the Facetime audio feature as well but do wonder if we all have to use iOS 7 in order to take advantage of this or will it be backwards compatible so say you make a Facetime audio call to somebody who is still on iOS 6 would it perhaps disable the video at theirs as well as my end who knows. RE: Listening to Voiceover
I know this message is ridiculously late in response, Brice, but I have my ear buds with me all the time and can enjoy complete privacy with my screen curtain on as well. Even in very noisy environments, you can hear the speech if it is turned up loudly enough. I like the buds because you can still hear people and still be aware of your surroundings while texting or playing around with your apps. I find the buds particularly handy when I'm listening to blind square tell me where I am. If done safely, you can even cross busy streets with only one ear bud in if you take out the bud in your ear where the parallel traffic comes from. The only time I have blind square coming from my external speaker is when I am in a cab. This lets the driver know that he can't pull one over on me. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Brice Smith Sent: Friday, May 24, 2013 9:29 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Listening to Voiceover Hi, I'm curious to know how you all listen and use your phones when you're out in public. If you use speech, you want to be able to hear the speech without everyone else hearing it or becoming distracted by it, too. Sometimes I'll just hold the phone up toward my shoulder/ear and type/text so I can keep the volume down real low for privacy, but this looks really odd and unprofessional. But as you say, it is another item you have to make sure is charged up and I personally don't like it if I have to do any amount of typing. I do own one and use it at times, but first of all I feel I look like a nurd (no offense to anybody who wears it all day) and I just don't like the small lag when I am typing, it makes typing on the virtual keyboard even slower as it is. There is also a third reason why I don't want to have it in all day and that is the fact that nobody really knows if it is all that healthy. I very much prefer the Apple earpods, they are less conspicuous and even lighter than even the lightest Bluetooth earpiece. Depending on where I am and what I am doing I often just have the right one in my ear since it has the microphone and remote and I just have the left one hanging around my neck. It's become total habit for me to grab them in the morning, wrap them around my hand and put them in my pocket. In short, if you are in public and you don't want anybody to hear your phone a headset or earpiece of some sort is your only option. I personally wouldn't be too worried about people listening to a text message I might type, somebody really would have to pay attention to put together what you are typing if they hear a letter at a time, but of course if it's noisy a headset really is the way to go and it has the additional benefit that you can keep your phone on your belt or in your pocket when a call comes in. What is the usual way to turn it on? I just purchased an iPhone 5 to replace my 3GS. If the phone is turned off, I can turn it on by simply plugging the charging cable into the phone's port. That doesn't seem likely given the fact that the app was playing hookey for 25 minutes or so. Do you have keys or something else in there? Loose Change perhaps? It sounds kind of far-fetched I know, but when you are talking electronics and depending on orbiting satellites in the sky,k who knows. Maybe where you are walking is near a lot of glass, which can also distort gps signals and maybe this is causing the weirdness with Blind Square. Have you tried another app which may do similar? RE: searching the app store
Dear Fred and list, I am saying this publicly because I feel that such a need has arisen. Fred, you are completely out of line and are acting like an absolute bully on this list, attempting to intimidate people with your condescending attitude without having empathy for people's situations. Many on this list struggle with issues in addition to blindness on a daily basis. Your poisonous attitude is not condusive to healthy dialogue. You might have suggested the manual to Ray without the additional snarky comments you feel so compelled to make. While I agree that people ought to try and research for themselves whenever possible, not everyone does this and it isn't necessary for you to keep pointing it out in such a way as to club everyone over the head with your attitude of superiority. To Raul, I give you my word that this is my first and last Email on this subject. I fully understand that the consequences of this E-mail include removing me from this list, and I completely support your decision should you choose to exercise that option. I happened to have an old victor Stream case and, just for fun, put my iPhone in it. It works very well and I can use the clip to hold it in place. My husband's iPhone 5 is, of course a little too long. If anyone has tried any other means of carrying the phone I'd be interested to know since the Stream case does not fit his iPhone 5. God bless! Getting Rid of the Tutor Message in the Status Bar
Hello listers. I'd like to know if there is a way to turn off the status bar message on the I phone five which says to swipe down with three fingers to reveal the notifications or to double tap to scroll to the top of the screen. Thanks and best regards. Eddie -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. RE: What do they do???
Hi Carrie and list. My girlfriend is someone who definitely doesn't feel confident with I things and would be asking what to do on a consistent basis, so here's my thought. In a real life teaching situation, I would explain a procedure once or twice, then if asked a third time, I would make the person critically think by asking a question of my own such as, What do you think the next step might be? I do this type of question teaching regularly with blind kids who I teach music to. Patti, you're a kind soul. I feel like I have some of that patience with others, but not to the extent that you do. I'm all for helping others, as long as they try to learn as we go. However, there is a point when one has to do for themselves. I live a very full life, surrounded by sighted people, and there's been more than one occasion in which I'm complaining about all the blind bums, and my friends and family have had to gently explained to me that just because I have a lot of self-confidence doesn't mean that everyone else does and just because blind people don't/can't always learn/do for themselves doesn't make them lazy. So, long story short, I respect Patti's view, but probably feel more as Fred does. Having said that though, there will be A LOT less traffic and confusion if everyone would just get along. Everyone's free to ask questions, just as everyone is free to answer them or not. We're all on this list to gain support and knowledge from other IOS users. I have done a lot of stuff for people that I think they should be able to do for themselves, yet over and over again when they need help they come to me for it and I think to myself, they need to learn this on their own but if they won't because they are fearful of making a mistake, then I have to help them. Patience needs to be exercised on any email list, because we don't know where the person writing in is coming from. Just my humble opinion. RE: a battery saver, but effective?
I use blind square for my GPS option. I have brightness turned down to 0 and auto brightness off. Also, I lock the screen and have the screen curtain on. I walked in my neighborhood the other day for almost 80 minutes. The battery only went down 9 percent from a full charge to 91 percent. I thought that was pretty impressive. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Terje Strømberg Sent: Tuesday, April 09, 2013 4:57 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: a battery saver, but effective? Hi One experiment is to turn the light on at the highest level. You will be surprised by on how fast the the battery drain runs out. So, turning the screen light down to 30% or less will increase the battery life considerable. With this setting i could listen to text from the the internet and email with batteridriven headphones for 3 ours and a decrease of power at 40%. Not bad, but it was with battery driven headphones. I don`t think i can use gps more than 2.5 ours. I am curious regarding using only iPhones built in GPS receiver vs. a battery drive external GPS like garmin gloe or something. I am planning to use the iPhone with GPS this summer from tim to time. 6-7 ours sometimes. With a cafe break or two. Learning the name of some streets in my city. Have been lazy lately. So the amount of light and GPS usage are the two most current suckers on the iPhone. Take care 9. apr. 2013 kl. 18:19 skrev Alan Paganelli alanandsuza...@earthlink.net: None of them actually can save you battery power. They just monitor power consumption and the apps that your not using at the time so you can close them and I'm not all that sure that works either. I've tried deleting apps from the app switcher as somebody said you have all those apps opened and I never saw that that made any difference either so these kinds of apps probably won't gain you any extra battery power. Just because there's an app for that doesn't always mean it's worth anything in my opinion. - Original Message - From: Ramy Moustafa To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, April 09, 2013 6:41 AM Subject: a battery saver, but effective?
