Do any of these tech 21 cases have a place for a lanyard?

Amazon is probably the best place as you can find literally dozens and dozens
of different cases. I personally like the Tech 21 cases as they are thin but
very tough.

I believe that phone is identical in size and button configuration as the
iPhone 8. So a case for the 8, SE and SE 2022 should fit.

Hello,

I just bought a new iPhone, SE2022 because my mother poured some sauerkraut on
hers, so I gave her mine.

I want to have another case like the one I had, but I don’t remember where I
bought it. The name of the place was something like t-guide.

The Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Tournament, is renowned for
its stunning layout. The course features a hilly terrain with lush green

The front nine holes wind through the Georgia pines, starting with the
relatively short par-4 first hole and leading to the iconic par-3 12th hole,

The back nine is known for its challenging closing stretch, including the

Subject: RE: How do I prevent my emails from being deleted on multiple devices

If you use more than one device what you should want is for both devices to
show exactly the same thing. For example, if you are out and about and get an
email and reply to it on your iPhone, I at least would want to see on my
computer that the email was replied to and that the reply is there in the sent
folder or wherever I move it to.

Similarly, if I delete an email I delete it because I either don’t want it
because it’s spam or I am done with it. In that case why would I not want said
email to be deleted on all my devices?

As others pointed out, IMAP and Microsoft Exchange are protocols where your
mail, contacts and so on are stored on the server of your provider and a local
copy of the data is synced to your devices. The sync works both ways, you read
an email on one device and it shows as read on the other, you reply to an email
and it shows as replied to on the other, you sent an email on one device and
the message is in your sent items folder on the other device or devices. You
add a contact on your iPhone while you are out and about and that contact is
also there on your computer and vice versa.

It may take a little getting used to, but this is the way email should work
when multiple devices are involved, POP3 is an old protocol which was never
designed for a situation where 2 or more devices are involved, yes, you can
specify to “leave mail on server” on one device, but then this does not do
anything for other stuff, e.g. if you were to send a message to somebody on
your iPhone with an account set up as POP3, then that message you sent lives on
your iPhone only and you would never know it was sent if you looked at the sent
messages on your computer. I know a few people on this list love to live in the
past and they think POP3 is the reinvention of the wheel but it’s definitely
not.

The other advantage of IMAP or Exchange of course is the fact that everything
is backed up already and if you get a new device whether computer or iPhone,
you don’t even have to think about backing up your Outlook data file and then
restoring it and all that. All you do is you enter your credentials on the new
device when you set up the account and everything magically appears.

I use Microsoft-365, windows-10 on my desktop as my primary email program. I
only use my iPhone on occasion, mostly when I go out of my house. I recently
had to switch my Outlook-365 Verizon account from POP to IMAP. This means that,
unfortunately, my emails are no longer deleted from the server after I download
them on my desktop, so they come into my phone, too. It also seems to mean
that when I delete an email on my phone or desktop, it’s also somehow deleted
from the other device. I emphatically do not want that. How do I prevent this
from happening?

First, the shift is not available unless you are adding a number in contacts.
When you are adding a number in contacts,tThe shift button is in the lower
left. Depending on your VO settings, either touch and release it, or double
tap, then the plus sign will be where the 0 was to the right of the shift
button.

example, 011-49 would be for Germany, 011-44 for the United Kingdom.

If you are dialing from the dialpad and don’t want to add the number to your
contacts it is much easier to dial 00 in front of the country code, e.g. if you
want to call the United Kingdom which has a country code of 44, you would dial
0044 and then the number.

First, the shift is not available unless you are adding a number in contacts.
When you are adding a number in contacts,tThe shift button is in the lower
left. Depending on your VO settings, either touch and release it, or double
tap, then the plus sign will be where the 0 was to the right of the shift
button.

RE: Power Bank Etc. For iPhone and Storms

2023-11-30 Thread James Bentley
If possible, purchase 2 power banks and charge both fully.

Then, when the first goes dead, plug it in to charge and you still have a fully
charged power bank ready to go. Then, just keep alternating the power banks
and you will always have plenty of reserve power.

Not directly. Since it can be left plugged in, it should be fully charged when
needed. However, it would be possible to use an app like Be My Eyes to ask a
sighted person to look through your phone's camera at the power bank and find
out that way.

James,

For those of us who have updated to iOS 17 and prefer Hey Siri, we can go to
Settings, Siri and search, and Listen for and select Hey Siri instead of Siri
and Hey Siri to have it work as it did in earlier versions of iOS.

I find it interesting that so much misinformation accompanies each iOS release.
Apple has not removed Hey Siri, you have the choice of using either, unless you
go into the Siri settings and set it to just Hey Siri or turn it off
completely.
The statement at the end of the Siri setting says: iPhone will listen for
“Siri” or “Hey Siri” at the beginning of requests. With certain headphones
connected, “Hey Siri” is required.

Yes, you can now say just "Siri, what time is it" and it works fine. But since
I have been using iOS 17 which has been since the first public beta in early
July, Siri has never been triggered accidently.
And as far as never updating to iOS 17, that is a completely irrelavent
statement because even if you never update to iOS 17, eventually you need a new
phone so unless you buy an Android phone, whenevber you get a new phone you get
whatever iOS version is then the current one, maybe iOS 18 or 19 or if your
current phone still hangs in there for 3 years maybe it will be iOS 20 and I
doubt Apple will necessarily see a reason to restrict Siri to "Hey Siri" again.

I love Hey Ciri. Not one single time in almost one year has any thing
accidently triggered Ciri.

All of my other devices, especially Alexa go off several times a day. I always
have the TV, radio, or an Audio book going and Ciri has never noticed. Alexa

If Apple has removed the Hhey in Hey Ciri, I will never update to any version

Just my opinion but it seems to me like Apple has come out with one of the
worst versions of IOS in V17 since the conception of the I Phone.

It’s also possible that since they got rid of the hay in hey Siri, if your
friend has that enabled, Siri could be listening and hear anything and quit,
because it thinks you’re doing something. Try disabling hands-free Siri and
just use the side button and see if that helps. I never have used hey Siri
except on my HomePod. I have no problem pressing the side button.

RE: Siri and iOS 17 problem

2023-10-31 Thread James Bentley
I love Hey Ciri. Not one single time in almost one year has any thing
accidently triggered Ciri.

All of my other devices, especially Alexa go off several times a day. I always
have the TV, radio, or an Audio book going and Ciri has never noticed. Alexa
sometimes, will start playing music or some podcast because she thought she
heard the wake word followed by a request.

If Apple has removed the Hhey in Hey Ciri, I will never update to any version
of IOS 17.

Just my opinion but it seems to me like Apple has come out with one of the

2023-10-18 Thread James Bentley
I wonder if the phone can be set to vibrate for incoming calls while in record
mode.

Also, I would be very interested in being able to record phone calls. That
would come in handy if I could record phone numbers and addresses, directions
etc during a call.

Hi all,

Tonight, I was recording something, and I received a phone call, but I
didn't hear the ring tone come through the speaker.
I tried just press record, and I also tried audio memos, but got the
same result.
I would like to record things, and if I get a call, have the ring tone
come through. I noticed that in a previous update, just press record
talked about phone calls not intrupting recordings.
Any help would be apppreciated. If anyone still knows of a recording
app that works, let me know.

Oh, yes, you're right. I was looking at the VDScan settings last night
thinking it had to be something to do with the camera and I didn't see camera
listed any where.

I even tried opening the camera first and then opening VDScan but no luck.

One of the strange symptoms is that in the settings/VDScan, the camera is not

But for some of us, that is gone.

I even tested the scanner in Voice Dream Reader and it works fine. It just
cannot do all that VDScan can do.

I've only heard from one other person with this issue. So, that makes three of

Time will tell.

Hi, Richard.

Sadly, yes. I wrote to Winston on Thursday morning and he got back to me this
morning. Neither his update nor the 17.0.1 update has corrected the issue. VO
tells me the app is opening, but it doesn't. However, the app is in the app
switcher.

I've tried several hard resets and I've completely removed and re-downloaded
the app.

It's like the app isn't completely opening or something.

Winston asked me if I had any odd settings tweaked on my phone and I do not,
but I'm not sure what I should be looking for..

I hope that enough of us with this issue can help him find a solution. I'm

I don't see the problem either. If someone doesn't like the descriptions
they're getting out of a service then they just don't need to use it. They can
find another service that provides descriptions more to they're liking.

The problem is that a non-human thing, Open AI, is making subjective judgments
about people and objects in pictures and there's no way to query the AI why it
came up with that judgement. Plus I want to make my won judgements and don't
want to be influenced by a machine. All I'm saying is that we need to think
carefully whether we really want Be My Eyes to be giving us these judgments or
having them reserved for human interactions.
I realize this is veering off topic so won't be replying anymore.
Happy listing!

RE: Possible Bug in BARD app since iOS 17 Upgrade

2023-09-20 Thread James Bentley
I'm on quite a few list that deal with I Phones

My in box is over flowing with people who are having problems with IOS 17. It
looks like Apple has just decided to deal with accessibility problems as an
after thought.

Spend enough R and D to Take care of the main stream consumers and let the
visually impaired discover and report the problems related to blind users.
This method saves R and D money.

As we report problems, Apple will gradually fix most of the issues. But, by
the time that happens, IOS 18 will be out and we get to start all over again.

Since I wrote that last message, I discovered yet another problem:

I hear absolutely nothing when I hold in the Side button. Not a very
quiet tone, nothing at all. I turned the phone up and held it up to my
ear when I held in the Side button and it doesn't play anything. I still
hear the traditional tone when I let go of the Side button, but nothing
when I press and hold it.

Well, normally, I don't upgrade so soon, but I read over the list of
bugs and none of them seem to be ones that would impact me. The tone
adjustment issue isn't a deal breaker, but I just so happened to start
an older book that was digitized from a worn out analog copy and really
needed to clarify the narration as much as possible. Apparently no one
needed to do this during the beta process, or there just aren't that
many VO users testing iOS software. I know I won't do it because I only
have one iPhone and no other Apple products.

Looks like an upgrade to the BARD app is in order.

James, I know what you mean. I now think I should have waited. It's not
just the bug in the BARD app. I cannot get any of those per voice
changes to work in my iPhone 12 either. At least I still have all the
functionality of the Eloquence I had in ioS 16, but I don't get any of
the new functionality I'm supposed to get with iOS 17.

I will not be so quick to update next time. I will wait for a bit until
things are ironed out more.

Hi, all.

I'm using iPhone 14 Pro and BARD Mobile 2.2.1. Since upgrading to iOS
17 I cannot adjust the tone of a book from within the book itself.
Normally, double tapping on the speed button will bring up the tone menu
and allow the tone to be adjusted. However, I've tried doing this on
three separate books and nothing happens when I double tap on the speed
button, though I'm able to adjust the speed in the usual way.

Right now, the only way I can adjust the tone is to go to the settings
tab, then audio settings and adjust the tone from there.

I've tried rebooting my phone, but no joy. My next step is to delete
and reinstall the BARD app.

Am I missing something? Has anyone else had this issue?

RE: The Second Time Around can be More Expensive on Amazon

2023-08-10 Thread James Bentley
Two years ago, the model st55 was on sale for $50.00. Its $110.00 now and
Amazon probably beats every one else by at least 20 bucks.

If you buy, be sure to get the model st55 because it has buttons that a blind
person can use in case the internet is down. The more expensive model is a
flat touch screen that no blind person can ever use.

Here's an Amazon link for the model st55 with buttons.

Subject: FYI: The Second Time Around can be More Expensive on Amazon

Hello Everyone,

After recently recommending the Emerson Sensi thermostat that I use for my
home via Home Kit, not knowing if Emerson is still making the model and
knowing how often products with hardware buttons can be discontinued, I
decided to purchase a second (backup) unit, just in case.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the price of the model had
increased by $25 since January of this year.

Just to confirm, I had a friend put the same model in her Amazon cart, on 2
different devices and the price was the same, $25 more than I originally
paid.

My point, if you like a product from Amazon and you think you may want to
purchase a second unit, do so sooner, rather than later, because the second
time around can be more expensive on Amazon.

Mark

Thank you Bill and Robert.

Your help is awesome. Now, even my voice memos show up on both of my I phones

I bet I never learn every thing my smart devices will do but this one is a

Hey James,

Check out the “Airplay & Handoff” dialog in Settings/General, if you have the
same Apple ID for both phones and ensure that “Handoff” is enabled on both
phones the contacts (and other app data) will be synced such that making
changes on one phone will register identically on the other iPhone.

NOTE: I have “Handoff” enabled on both my iPhones as well as my Mac mini,
making edits or additions in Contacts, Notes, e-mail and other apps on any one
of these devices magically appear on the other 2 iDevices.

You need the "PhoneLink" app on a Windows 11 PC and the "Link to Windows" app
on your iPhone.

PhoneLink should already be on your computer if it's updated to the latest
Windows 11 version and Link to Windows of course has to be downloaded from the
App Store on your iPhone, it does not work with an iPad (or at least not yet).

Here is one article, you find many if you Google it:

RE: What does this mean

2023-03-08 Thread James Bentley
Just so every one who is trying to help me knows, I found out what the problem
was. I replaced a lost credit card with a new card and the numbers changed.
And, I forgot to add the phone bill to the new card so my auto payment failed
to go through. In other words, I got cut off by my carrier fornon payment.

I suppose its always good to know the different causes for problems.
Especially when others write in with their own experiences.

I'm now back in business.

Many thanks for the help.

I’ve been using the walmart app to do my grocery shopping for years. However,
there seems to have been some changes made that render the virtual grocery cart
section all but useless. In the past, I could go to the virtual cart, hit the
expand button and a list of items in the cart would appear with items listed
with accompanying buttons to increase quantity, decrease quantity, remove item
from cart and button to move item to “Save for Later.”

Now, when I expand the cart list, I get a very strange conglomeration of
graphics that offer little, if any, value in adjusting quantities or deleting
or saving said item.

Has anybody else noticed this quite disturbing circumstance? If so, is there a
solution to return the expanded virtual cart to a very accessible list-text
format?

In other words, HELP!

Looking for an extremely durable Android phone

2023-02-04 Thread James Bentley
OK, this might sound a bit crazy but I have a very good friend who has
dropped her Android phone so many times over the years that you all would
doubt me if I told you how many times. And, it is usually in my apartment
on my hard tile floors.

Around one fourth of the time, the screen is cracked and she has to buy a
new phone. LOL, her husband is just about to ask her for a divorce. Just
kidding on that one.

Anyway, does any one make a phone that can survive drops on to a tile floor?
She hates cases but if necessary, who might make a military grade case.

Any information will be appreciated by me and especially her husband who is
paying for these phones.

One can dislike his personality, but don't belittle his achievements and his
genius.

As for Twitter, he may very well have a vision which nobody has figured out
yet; let's give it 2 or 3 years and see what happens. And don't get me wrong, I
don't of course know him except for what I hear and read just like most of us,
and I think he sounds like a very unpleasant type of person with lots of
eccentricities, but once again that does not make him stupid. I can think of
other people in recent American history who were even less qualified for what
they were doing.

Subject: Twitter Confirms Third-Party Apps Like Tweetbot Were Intentionally
Blocked

Twitter has become crazy. Just get out. Elon Musk is not qualified to own
anything, much less a massive social media app, which he has done nothing but
rec.

Twitter Confirms Third-Party Apps Like Tweetbot Were Intentionally Blocked

MacRumors: Mac News and Rumors / Juli Clover

Third-party Twitter apps like Tweetbot and Twitterrific have been intentionally
blocked from using Twitter APIs, Twitter confirmed today. Without access to the
underlying code for the social network, Tweetbot, Twitterrific, Birdie,
Echofon, and other popular Twitter clients are non-functional and cannot be
used.

Twitter's Dev account today said in a tweet
  that Twitter is
"enforcing its long-standing API rules," a change that could cause some apps
not to work. There has been no word on which API rules the blocked Twitter
clients have violated, and this is the first time that Twitter has provided
insight into what's going on with third-party Twitter apps since they stopped
working last Thursday.

When some third-party Twitter apps became unusable last week, it was initially
believed that there could be some kind of bug causing the outage. Only the most
popular Twitter clients were affected and blocked from Twitter's APIs, perhaps
indicating an internal error. As Twitter declined to comment on the situation
for days, however, it became clearer that it was an intentional decision. Over
the weekend, The Information

said that in an internal Slack channel, a senior software engineer at Twitter
clarified that the suspensions were done on purpose, suggesting many Twitter
employees were not even aware of what was going on.

It is not known why Twitter has provided so little information on what is
happening to highly popular third-party Twitter apps that have existed for
years, nor if these apps will again be provided with access to the API if
changes are made. Developers like Iconfactory and Tapbots (responsible for
Twitterrific and Tweetbot, respectively), received no warning about the
shutdown and were not provided with information on why their apps stopped
working.

Apps like Tweetbot have been around for more than a decade at this point, with
loyal users, full teams of developers, and a major investment in the social
network. Developers have expressed their frustration at Twitter's decision and
lack of communication, as have longtime Twitter users.

MacStories

, for example, called Twitter's actions "disgraceful" and "unprofessional,"
with Twitter demonstrating a "total lack of respect" for the role that
third-party apps have played in the success of the social network.

Jason Snell called Twitter's actions "clueless,
classless, and cowardly," and John Gruber said this is likely the end of his
regular usage of Twitter as Twitter's own client is "terrible."

At this point, it isn't clear when or if we're going to get more information
about third-party Twitter clients from Twitter,

RE: thermostat with buttons and Alexa and apple.

2023-01-12 Thread James Bentley
Sorry I do not know enough about the dozens of heating and cooling
configurations to answer most of your question.

If your current heat and cooling are controled by the same thermostat, then you
should be able to use Sensi. It shouldn't matter if your home is equipped with
a C (common) wire or not. And, there are devices that can add the C wire in
the rare case that Sensi doesn't work in your home.

My installer installed the Sensi model st55 so that I can use Alexa, the I
Phone App, or the tactile buttons on the thermostat.
I am using a 2 year old heat pump in East Texas and every thing works like a
dream. I almost always just ask Alexa to make changes but I sometimes use the
buttons if I happen to be standing at the thermostat.

I'm not sure as how it is possible for a blind person to do an install but most
installers can install Sensi in about 15 minutes. Maybe you can phone your
local installer and ask a few questions. I wish I knew more but there are too
many different ages of systems and types of systems through out the U S. Wood
burning, coal, fieul oil, electric, propane and natural gas, and several more.
I'm glad people have options but it sure can get complicated. A phone call to
a professional might help.

I hope you come up with some thing that you are happy with.

Hi all, especially Mark and James. So you guys both talked about the and
sorry for the spelling. Sensy thermostat. My deal is this, we have both a
propane heater and a swamp cooler. So they are separate. So would I be able

Hi Deidra,

Yes, while I keep a healthy supply of Braille novels, magazines, and
periodicals in my house, it can be challenging, from time-to-time, to
disconnect from the web.

A couple of weeks ago, when in a hurry, a friend and I left my house heading to
a store to do a bit of light shopping. Halfway there, I realized that I had
left my phone, at home.

It was all I could do to keep from having her turn the car around and returning
to retrieve it.

While out, we decided to grab some lunch at a restaurant.

While we were out, I found myself fighting panic attacks at not having access
to the internet. Now I knew this was foolish; after all, I wasn't expecting
any important phone calls, I knew that we would be heading back to the house
within a couple of hours or so, etc. Still, I found it most difficult to stay
calm and pay attention to her.

She kept asking, "Are you okay?"

I told her that I had left my phone at home and that it was no big deal. I
soon discovered that, in my mind at least, it was, in fact, a tremendously
large, big deal (smile).)

When, near the end of our meal, she suggested that we go to a park for a while,
I all but screamed, "No!"

I simply couldn't stand the thought of being separated from my phone, one
minute longer.

So, yes, addicting, these devices can definitely be, to say the least.

I hate having anything stuck inside my ear further than the wired Earpods, they

Okay, I know that I have asked this question before but, now that I must buy a
new thermostat for my home, within the next week or so, as my 32 year old model

thermostat do you either recommend and / or are currently using?

I am aware of the Nest brand models; I thought they were Google-only models but
I think they also can work with Alexa, right? Does anyone have any experience
with Nest / Alexa compatibility?

Also, I know that Honeywell makes Alexa models but, from what I have read on
the web, today, one must setup an online account with Honeywell before the
device can be used with Alexa. That sounds like a lot of trouble to me; maybe.

The only thing I know for certain is that I want a model that will work with
Amazon Alexa, out of the box, because I do not want to use a third-party app,
is I can avoid doing so.

I have come to trust the Alexa app for iOS and iPad OS.

$80.00, model available from Amazon. It has buttons that control selecting

Note, the more expensive model is flat screen only. No buttons. The buttons

Hi Kelly,

Keep in mind that if a guy is in your face so to speak and you sprayed him in
that close proximity with your fancy pepper spray you'd most likely be on the
ground right along side him.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Re: Is this a potential security problem?

I have been a victim advocate in Chicago for more than 25 years.
Criminals seem to target blind people less often for robberies because a blind
person does not know that a gun is pointed at them or that a criminal is
displaying an unsheathed knife. This needs to be explained and described to the
blind person before they comply with the criminal. They want to act quickly and
disappear and the extra communications needed for compliance requires extra
time and hassle.

More likely, the blind person will experience theft when a phone is left on a
table at a public place like a restaurant and a criminal picks it up and runs
away with the phone. Phones left in coats or unattended backpacks are also in
jeopardy of theft. Another theft possibility is when a blind person is casually
using the phone on a train or a bus and the criminal yanks it out of the user’s
hand and runs away when the door is open. As mentioned, a common way to avoid
phone robberies is to avoid using the iPhone in public. When it needs to be
used, such as with a navigation app, the phone should be in a pocket or held
closely near the body with a hand firmly grasping it.
Sighted criminals target those who are flashy with their Apple tech.
I also have a strategy to prevent criminals from getting in my face and causing
problems to my safety. I carry around a two or three ounce can of Heatwave
brand pepper spray, Napalm strength. This is way more intense then the pepper
spray sold in most retail stores and even more intense and painful than the
pepper spray police use. Fox is another good brand. These pepper sprays drop
bad guys in seconds because they strip the protective oily layer on the surface
of the skin so pain is felt immediately. I get the fog version as a blind
person because it is difficult to aim a stream accurately. A three second blast
of Heatwave Napalm strength to a criminal putting a phone up to my face will
cause him to drop the iPhone and writhe in an inescapable cloud of intense and
sustained pain. Small belt pouches are sold for pepper spray cans so the
container is easily available within arm’s reach.

RE: Wireless charging stand question

2020-02-06 Thread James Bentley
Just buy more stock. I know 4 people who are planning on buying the S E just
as soon as possible.

We should find out all of the details in about 6 weeks.

I sure hope a new SE comes out - can't hurt what little bit of Apple stock I
have - wish I had more.

Hi,

OK, I'll wait to see if Apple comes out with the S E or what ever they call it.
A faster processor and more future proofing is always better.

I've red a few rumors about what I will just call the S E. Its suppose to have
an A13 chip and be the same size as the iPhone 8. I hope it has two speakers.

I don't know how tough it will be with all of that glass but I would put it in
a decent case.

Based on Carolyn's positive discription of her wireless charger, I am pretty
sure that that is what I will eventually use.

I can't wait to get my hands on this phone . But, I guess I will have to.

Thanks to all,

James B

James,

I don't think fast charging has much of an impact on battery life, but Apple
uses a different fast charging standard than most others.
Carolyn recently upgraded from the original SE to an iPhone 11, if you plan to
upgrade in a few months when the SE 2 or whatever they will call it has been
released, it will definitely be compatible with wireless charging.
I would highly recommend whatever that new SE will be over the now over 2-year
old iPhone 8, it will be much the same form factor, but most likely it will
have the latest A13 chip or at least it will have the A12 and it will be more
future proof than the iPhone 8 and most likely it will also have better battery
life.

Hi Carolyn,

May I ask you which phone you have.

I am looking at buying an iPhone 8 or the new S E in a few months.

I'm wanting a small phone. I hope that the S E doesn't have a glass back. If
that's what I wind up with. But, if I get an iPhone 8 it would support
wireless charging. Then, I would want to go ahead and try that charger.

Does your charger have a lip around the edge so that the phone can't slide off
too easy? And, I am guessing that a slower charge will be less wear and tear
on the battery.

How much is the running cost? When I bought mine, there was a "10," and a "5,"
according to the Wal-Mart guy. The 10 was $29.99 and the 5 $19.99. I chose the
5. It is slow, but gets the job done. My husband and I thought slower could be
better than fast in terms of the battery. It is maybe a quarter inch or less
than the width of my phone and round. Are all of them round?

Well, let’s see and, what’s more, if their pad costs twice as much as most
other brand name pads out there. I have a Mophie pad which is about a quarter
inch wider than the iPhone on each side so I’m not sure how much smaller you
can make a charging pad, I personally wouldn’t want one where the slightest
bump means the phone tips off.

There is also a company called Ampere which makes some amazing travel chargers
with space for charging two iPhones and an Apple Watch or an iPhone, Apple
Watch and Airpods.

The Qi quick charging standard is 10watts (if memory serves) so all
other things being equal yes. But there are fiddly bits (the USB standard
didn't really intend for such high rates (more like 1.5amps) so the wall
transformer, the cable and the charger really all need to cooperate to get best
performance.

Personally, I don't worry about the fastest charging ... between my bed
and desks, there's plenty of time for inductive charging (and when bicycling, I
use a cable and portable battery).

Most of these wireless chargers will work with any appropriate
USB power input. Obviously, if it's a fast charger it needs higher amps than
slow charging (so look at the specifications for the wireless unit (power input
requirement) and ideally match or exceed that with the power output of your
wall unit. Some iphones have shipped with relatively wimpy chargers, others
more generously proportioned. But even if you get it "wrong" it will generally
just result in slower charging, not a failure to charge.
