 Hi all,

Please find below my notes about topics discussed in our first iOS
 teleconference.

Discussion about how we like to use our phones

If willing to accept a learning curve and starting from scratch with a new
operating system, it’s possible to do practically most every day tasks
accomplished with a computer using iOS devices.

 Examples are:

Listening to favorite cds, books from CNIB or bookshare or many other
 commercial reading sources, internet radio.

Surfing the web, reading Emails writing mails and text messages,Taking notes
using an external keyboard or writing on the iOS device using Braille input
 or taking audio recording memos.

Blindness specific aids such as OCR, reading pdf files, planning routes and
getting orientation info similar with tracker, light detector etc.

Social advantage of using devices that everyone else uses. Further, the
interface we use is similar enough to relate and receive and give help with
operating iOS devices to sighted users.

Difficulties when starting out with iOS

Orientation without buttons, learning the physical layout of the screen.

 Performing gestures efficiently.

 Text input and keypad use.

Areas where current cisg members using iOS want to expand in future meetings

MBraille and other Braille input options on the iphone.

Surfing the web efficiently with safari.

Using BlindSquare, a gps app with lots of features.

Making phone calls efficiently dealing with extension and keying in options
once the call is in progress such as voicemail passwords.

 Exploring skype on the iPhone.

Potentially looking at emailing with iphone?

Please add any topics here you’d like addressed in our next meetings.

Where do we go from here?

Leo works with Apple store for workshop in May. Goal is to give anyone
considering apple devices a hands-on overview of what they can expect and
provide follow-up options to learn more about them.

Meeting for current iOS users where we can teach and explore hands on topics
presented in previous item in this agenda.

Date for meetings to be is yet decided upon.

Here is where I had to sign off. Please add anything I might have missed.

It was a pleasure to chat and exchange with those who were on the call and I
am looking forward to future meetings.

 All the best,

 Ioana

Oh, the Bug Reporter website is for those who are registered as Apple
 Developers.

 Mark

 Begin Bug Report:

 Title:
VoiceOver Corrupting Keyboard Auto-Rotation on 6 Plus Spotlight Search

 Description:
On either a new iPhone 6 Plus or an iPhone 6 Plus that has been reset, the
native keyboard will auto-rotate to landscape orientation when performing a
 Spotlight search.

However, once VoiceOver has been enabled, regardless of being subsequently
disabled, the native keyboard will no longer auto-rotate to landscape
orientation when performing a Spotlight search.

I have verified this behavior on the T-Mobile, ATT Wireless, Sprint, and
Verizon Wireless versions of the iPhone 6 Plus.

Steps to Reproduce: List the step by step process to reproduce the issue
 1.
Make sure that auto-rotation is enabled.

 2.
Set the phone to Standard View.

 3.
Make sure the phone is in portrait orientation.

 4.
 From the Springboard, open Spotlight

 5.
Turn the phone to landscape orientation.

Expected Results: Describe what you expected to see
I expect to see both the results list and the native keyboard to have
 auto-rotated to landscape orientation.

Actual Results: Describe what you actually saw
While the results list will auto-rotate, the native keyboard will not.

The speech rate hasn't been changed in the Voice Over settings however,

The automatic language doesn't change automatically on the web as it used to

Minor bugs really, especially when you can go round them as easily as this,

to work flawlessly doesn't anymore in a supposedly improved version of the
 IOS.
Just my 2 Euro-scents on this matter.

Talking of which, is the main Fleksy keyboard any better now with 8.1.1?
I've heard that manual entry isn't working and the developers are aware of

Any info with Fleksy or Fleksy VO under IOS 8X versions would be wonderfully

Hello everyone,
As the co-moderator of another iphone list, we are organizing a
list lead skype event.
This means that the topics discussed at this event will be
decided by list members. We understand that sometimes its easier
to discuss things and ask questions face to face instead of just
over email.
Some suggesttion we already have are airdrop, dreams for the
iphone 6, dreams for ios 8, bluetooth help, and general bugs in
ios 7.
If you have any other suggesttions, or just want to join the fun,
please email me offlist. You can also go ahead, and add me on
skype. My skype name is kateddandrekson, and my profile id is

We don't exactly have the times yet. But I will let you know
when I know. I should find out tonight.

Don't notice that. But still get notifications sounds twice,

Hi all.

Today, someone brought me an iPhone 4s. This iPhone says siri
that voice
over is talking, and when I touch the siri window, voice over
talks fine.
Even though, if I close the siri window, and i try to onlock the
phone,
voice over is not talking anymore. I don't know what is going on
with this
phone, but voice over stop talking when I try to read something
out the siri
window. I know that it is voice over, because the voice sound
different. But
if I try to unlock the phone, and I press home button to close
the siri
window, and find the unlock place, voice over is not talking.
More over, if
I click on the powel button, to lock the phone, voice over
doesn't say
anything, if I press the power botton again, voice over is not
saying the

time either. Oh, speach is on, I checked it, and speach is on.

any advice?

Thanks

In voiceover, what is speak selections? What does it do?
What i speak auto text, and what does it do?
What is the difference between these to functions, and how do

What does phonetic feedback, and typing feedbac' do?

Like Kroll says, it's really your own preference that matters
here. Personally, I really can't stand Samantha in either form,
but I love Karen, but only in her compact form. If I could get
Neospeech Kate for VoiceOver on my phone, I'd switch to her in a
second. Not that Karen is bad or anything--I like her quite a
bit, in fact--but I just like Kate better. Sigh. That totally
isn't going to be happening. Ever. Ah, well.

Anyway, getting back to Karen. I like her in her compact form
over any of the other English voices, compact or otherwise. The
only time I ever use Samantha is when I'm using my braille
display. Although now that I can tell VoiceOver to use the North
American braille table as well as Karen at the same time, instead
of having to switch to Samantha to use the North American Braille
table, I'm good to go.

Thanks,
Ari

Others have said that Karen sounds good, and that's true, but

After upgrading my iPhone 4 from IOS 6.13 to

significant degradation of Voiceover speech. Specifically, the

wondering
whether a 4 running 7.0.4 can handle the better voice. If so,
where do

I find it?

Hi Annie,
In my experience, you always need a sim card to get past the set
up.

Thanks

Subject: An IPhone without sim card.

Hi.

I have just updated an IPhone 5 without a sim card. That seems
to be stupid, because now I can not set it up just to use wifi.
Can I do anything. Or do I need to buy a simcard for it?

Best regards Annie.

Yes this is both possible and safe as long as you have a thumb
tack or something like that to pop the sim trays out.
I've done it myself a number of times between two 3gs's so I know
its ok.

Thanks

Hi Eileens.

I am in Denmark, so it is a little expensive.

Is it possible and secure for a blind to move a card from my
IPhone 5s and put it into the 5, activate it, take it out and put
it back in my 5s. I am a little afraid to take the card out of
my 5s, because I know that there is a risk to destroy the card
slot in the phone.

Best regards Annie.

Hi Alex,

You're correct. It's a PITA. However, some people have
purchased a sim card from TMobile for about $10. It's a pay as
you go card just to activate the phone.

no they didn't have to, i guess they did as the new Fleksy wasn't
working out as expected, plus they wanted to accomodate everyone

Hi
that is ok, Fleksy may remind you of the days of predictive
texting,
it's a typing app that works like this. Tap anywhere on the
screen where

you think the letters are, swipe to the right with one finger to
generate a word based on your pattern, if it's not right you can
flick
down with one finger to bring up a list of suggestions similar
to the
pattern you typed. After the text has been entered you can
invoke a menu
with a two finger flick up to allow you to manipulate that text.
That's
Fleksy in a nutshell. Very helpful instructions come integrated
with the

app.

Hi,

As far as I have read, there is nothing new in Fleksy Vo. If
anything,
it뭩 a return to what was working well before they started to
muck around
with it to accommodate developpers who were integrating it in
their apps.
It really is a back to basics for what was working well with VO
and, in my

opinion, it was a smart move.

I've seen at least one message on this list and a handful on the
iDevices
list about a new Fleksy app called Fleksy VO. As an aside, the
label it is

tagged with when installed is Fleksy VI from what I've read.

For those interested in checking out the app description, here's
the link

to it on the Apps Store:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/fleksy-vo-for-voiceover-users/id7

I'm curious how Fleksy VO works compared to the original Fleksy
which is
at version 2.02. The iTunes description indicates that your
custom
dictionary from the original Fleksy will work with Fleksy VO but
I'm
wondering what differences there might be between the original
and Fleksy
VO. I will be trying it and finding out for myself but I
thought I'd first

tap the list knowledgebase.

Thanks in advance.
