Fit Bit app

[Kathy and Wilda]

Hi everyone, I have had the Fitbit app for several months now and it has
worked fine. Unfortunately since the last update, if I turn off my phone it
signs me out and I have to enter my ID and pass word. I have written the
owner but have not had a response back. Anyone else having this problem?

By using the normal navigation to get to the folder and using VO+spacebar to 
open the folder and the same keystroke to activate the app you want.
You can also press the up and down arrows together to activate an item.

Thanks for this. I am assuming that quick nav has to be on in order for the 
Bluetooth to function with the Iphone? My next question how do you open an app 
with the keyboard (double tap) or send a text,

Or do you have to use the phone to perform these functions?

If you have quick nav off, press control+option+space, or

Keys to go blue tooth keyboard

I received the above keyboard for Christmas. I need assistance on how it
works. I can't seem to open an app by pressing any key twice. Those who use

I'm typing this now with my iPhone 6 and touch typing with 2 hands.  I used it 
with a 5s before that.

 

It's a strange looking keyboard as there is a covering over the keys so that if 
something spills it does not go down between the keys and ruin the keyboard.  
It is super thin and way super light weight.

 

I was surprised when I received it since I ordered it sight unseen...just went 
on the description and reviews but I'm very happy with it.

 

Someone on this list said that it fits in a pocket...it must be a really big 
pocket.  grin

I too have the Keys to Go keyboard and like it.  Yes, I type using both hands 
and I think it has great touch.  I ordered mine from Best Buy but they are also 
on Amazon.

I have the Logitech keys to go. Its a nice little keyboard, can fit into my 
pockets, I can type a little faster on it than a regular keyboard because its 
so small, well not as small as a keyboard from AT guys but small enough to 
work, but not be too bolky. It has a protective layer of a lethery stuff over 
it, so that food or spills won't get in the keys. Regarding the sexiness of the 
Apple keyboard, I'll say this. It wasn't so sexy when I dropped it, and the 
aluminum around the power button bent, so that the keyboard is now perminantly 
off. So no, no more Apple keyboard for me, nor ever. My only problem with the 
keys to go is that I don't know exactly when the keyboard is dying.

Apple does have a keyboard. It is about as fig as the L'ogitech keyboard. It 
runs around $70 also. Also, someone else suggested the keyboard from At guys. 
That is a very small keyboard about the size of a small candy bar. You can use 
only one hand for that one. She was right, it runs about $45. As for the 
L'ogitech, just do a search on Amazon for L'ogitech 810 or 811 and it will come 
up. I'm not sure about the other keyboard you mentioned. I'm not sure. I do 
know that they make a lot of different keyboards.

I paired it with my 
iPhone and started to use it; but I am not doing well with whatsapp.  If 
anybody has experience with whatsapp, the braille note and bluetooth keyboards, 
please advise me what to do.  Whatsapp is the most important part of my iPhone. 
 

 

I would like also to know how helpful siri is.  So far, I did not find her 
too helpful.  If I ask her to dial a number for me, it will; but then when 
there are options and extentions, it does not help anymore.  Is there a 
solution to that?  I hear people say dictating the iPhone is different from 
instructing siri.  Is that true?  What is the difference?  I am very new and 
full of questions.  I have not tried it; but someone confirmed to me when I 
asked her if we can dictate letter by letter.  I like to do that because in 
that way, we avoid writing wrong words and messages.

Still problems with calendar in ISO 8.4

I am still having the problem of not being able to flick up or or down to get 
the date or time I desire. Mark T. said you had not had a problem, but mine 
particular problem continues. Does anyone have any suggestions? It may just be

Calendar on 8.4

I have just updated my phone to 8.4 and having problems with changing times and 
dates. For example, when I try to enter a new event and try to flick to the 
date I want it goes directly to the top. The times just don’t do anything. Is

Speaking from the perspective of running with many weather apps as each has 
different features which I happen to like. for instance some do severe weather 
alerts better than do others via push notification as one example. 
where the Dark Sky app excels is the ability to send a push notification 
alerting you to precipitation which is soon to start falling.  It is also quite 
specific about the type I.E. Drizzle, light rain, and such.  This will be my 
first Winter with it so I'm assuming it'd alert for the more frozen variety's 
of precipitation as well but haven't yet experienced it myself. 
I've found it to be quite accurate in these alerts.  If the alert doesn't 
coincide exactly with the start of the precipitation it usually commences 
within 20 minutes.
I found out about this app from a guide dog user who found it an invaluable 
resource for getting in that last walk before bad weather started.  I myself am 
not amongst their numbers but still do appreciate the alerting capabilities it 
offers.
I've never known the native weather app to provide push notifications of any 
weather related events which is why I have so many others along with it.

I've no affiliation other than being a happy purchaser and user of the app.

It's probably wise not to update at the moment. I was not one of the wise
ones. I have a problem with Alex speaking very fast. I like my speech fairly

One thing to remember is that gestures are different with voiceover on than
with it off; I don't know if this applies to answering the phone or not but
i have to turn voiceover off to let anybody sighted do anything with it and,
yes, the screen curtain has to be off too! Unless you use earphones that
have a built-in control or allow you to answer by voice, I don't know of an
alternative, and of course if somebody is just picking up your phone and
answering it for you, the other person isn't going to be using headphones.
Even though I am a long-time iPhone user, I find that I tend to forget and
double tap with only one finger, and then I yell at my phone because it
activated something else. A two-finger double tap anywhere should answer the
call but if it isn't a two-finger double tap, unless you are on the answer
button, your results won't be what you wanted.

Unfortunately I tried two valid charge cards using Credit but it would not 
accept either card. I then realized my husband has a pay pal account and I used 
that. I did write J. Mosen to let him know the problems.

The one thing that I would point out is that when I tried twice to order the 
book, both times the quantity of books to be ordered was pre set at 5 so be 
careful to re set the quantity of books to be ordered to 1(or whatever quantity 
is desired).  The option to pay with a credit card is located right after the 
option to use pay pal.

I also just tried and I had the same problem. I wrote them and they said
they were not having problems with the Guest PayPal. I will try again
tomorrow. I had a similar problem with the IOS7 but got it to work.

I heard on a recent iFive podcast someone saying that this was an issue for
them and asking if anyone knew of a solution. It's the same for me too so I
was wondering if anyone on this list knew if this was likely to be fixed
with a firmware update. I can program in a finger or thumb and it works fine
for a day or so then it doesn't work - not even a small percentage of the
time - it just never works thereafter until I reprogram and then it works
100% of the time for a day or so.

Yes, I have! Seeing that I had to redo my fingers three times I ran out of
options. The second time when I did the print it put me on 4 and 5 but the
third time it went back to 1 and 2.

Yes, just a few days ago, I redid my thumb.  The second time around, I made
sure to have my thumb both sideways and straight on.  It is more natural for
me to hold my phone with one hand and use my thumb at more of an angle to
unlock it.

No double tap is needed, just touching the time or an item in the status bar
followed by a 3-finger swipe down or up will do the trick. The double tap

Hey, congratulations on getting an iPhone. that is pretty exciting and
hopefully things are coming along well. 

 

If you wish to activate the notification center:

 

1. perform a double tap on the status bar. the status bar is the area were
you hear things like how many bars you have, the network you are on such as
ATT 4G, the wifi network if you are connected . etc.

 

2. perform the 3 finger swipe down and you should hear . notification
center. 

 

If you want to get to the control center, perform a double tap on the status
bar and then perform a three finger swipe upward and that should do it :).

 

Hopefully this information proves useful to you. Please let us know.

I just got an iphone 5s and it appears that the three finger swipe up to
access the control center is not working with VO. If you turn off VO it
works just fine. Any suggestionsKathy and Seeing Eye dog Wilda

Hi Kathy.

When you add an appointment to the calendar on your iPhone under ios 7 the
alert buttons for alert 1 and alert two are toward the bottom of the screen.

You should be able to swipe right to get to each one and double tap each one
to setup when you want your alerts to appear in advance of your
appointments.

I have noticed the same thing.  I live in North Carolina, USA, and have
thought that SIRI has taken a step back in response.  I love the
automatically listening for a response after SIRI asks a question, but the
time between asking a question and getting a response is sometimes large.

Also, when using dictate in messaging, I sometimes have to move focus away
from the message pane and back to get the text read.

We have noted an increased speed and performance when it comes to asking
Siri a question but it seems that dictation has taken quite a step backwards
for myself and other friends with whom I've spoken here in the UK.

First, the time between dictating and text appearing at my end is definiqly
much slower and is also less accurate. In addition I'm sometimes not sure if
didtated text has been processed because of the lack of speech from Siri who
doesn't read aloud text as processed or even say Done.

Have you noticed these things, do you know why we should experience these
difficulties and do you agree that this should be reported to Apple?

to comments. I do also have the voice book app. installed but I find it a
little more difficult to add a comment.

posts? I don't need to unfriend people etc as I can do that via the mobile

I downloaded this app and I'm having trouble signing in. I do my ID and
password and it tells me that game center is not available. At the bottom it
is telling me to create a new password which I don't want to do. Is anyone
else having this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Mac verses Ipad

[Kathy and Wilda]

 

 

I have been a PC Jaws user for many years and I'm thinking of going
exclusively Apple. First do any of you just use the Ipad as your main
computer and if so what are the pros and cons? Also I like to download books
from Bookshare to my Victor stream and I know the Ipad doesn't have a US
port.Is there a work around for that? If anybody could give me feedback and
let me know  their experiences I would greatly apppreciate any suggestions

I cannot comment on your book point, but, will say that I was a Nokia and
Widnwos PC user for donkey's years, moved over exclusively to Apple in 2010,
and haven't looked back at all!

The Voice Over experience is reliable, consistent, user friendly and most of
all a joy to use. I always felt that JAWS and I lived a love hate
relationship together, Freedom Scientific loved to screw me over, over and
over, and over again more, and probably would have continued to do so until
I was bleeding to death from all the money that terribly flakey product cost
me, and I, I was the hate part of the relationship. I hated being dependant
on something which caused me stress, anxiety and misery.

Apple's products do what you want, without fuss and without hassle.

Good points! I do have the read to go app on my phone and I do use it
however I do like my victor stream. I am tending toward the Mac but just
wanted to know what people thought. Going from a PC to Mac , how difficult
is the learning curve?

There is an app for reading books from bookshare called read2go for the iPad
and phone etc. You download books directly inside the app and can use either
voice over or the speech that comes with the app to read those books. I
would never replace my computer with an iPad for at least two reasons. I
scan books. Can't do that on an iPad. I also don't think the word processors
are ready for accessibility prime time on any i-device compared with a pc or
even a Mac. The iPad is fine for email and the web etc. But as a content
creation device, as a blind person, I don't think it compares with a
computer.

When you want to put a new number or address in Fleksy's favorites, just
make certain you are at the end of your last entry. What I do is place a
comma right after the number or address when I add it. When I back to add
another, I am in the correct place. I check this by deleting the comma I put
in and then putting it back and spacing after it. Then I can put in my new
entry.

Runkeeper is very accessible and will speak the amount of time you have
walked or run and how far you have gone. It will speak to you every five
minutes to update.

Siri to tell you what's on the New York Times best sellers list, then check
for those items under Read2Go?  And this sounds like another good feedback
suggestion for the Read2Go forums.  I still would like the ability to upload
non-Bookshare books without having to use iTunes.  The suggestion for Add
Read2Go in the Open In options for any links to DAISY books is currently
in the top three -- behind requests for Daisy with graphics to see
pictures and Allow tap-to-turn-the-page style of navigation, instead of
just scrolling.
