Re: battery

2014-03-24 Thread Laura ann Grymes
I too have had the a battery drain since upgrading to 7.1.

I have turned off after charging then turned back on and it helps but one day
the phone battery completely drained in half a day.
I called apple and they did a battery test and it was good so they wanted me to
completely erase and restore.
This had been done recently for another issue and I told them I would continue
to work with it and do it later if necessary.

Thanks for the earlier suggestion on checking background app refresh and
turning off the drop box and fourswaure and google maps.
I will try that today.

The battery drains much faster now with IOS 7.1

I have bluetooth turned off.
I have noticed a new update always turns it on and I have to go turn it off
again.

Those around me who have IPhones are not having this issue and do not use voice
over.

Like Raul said, 1st gen mini is using ipad2 processer, and the latest mini is
 using a i7 processer.
It is not too noticable but the 1st gen mini is slightly slowing down with
ios7, compare to ios6. Which, it is rather expected. However, like Sieghard
said, it is depends on an individual. Can you accept a slightly slow
processer, (less than 1 second slow) or you need to be always on the fasters
and the latest and newest device.
As for me, i would like to have th newest and latest and fastest, but, i'm
not sure if i can justify to pay another $500 or more to own that. Not to say
Apple just replace my first gen mini for a new first gen mini after my Apple
 care out by 2 months.
If you are considering a new ipad mini, then, by all means, ipad mini retina
will be a better choice for you than the mini 1st gen.

Primarily it is the jump of 2 generations from an A5 to an A7 processor

the former puts the iPad Mini on par with the iPhone 5S and the regular
iPad in terms of processing power although Apple set the processor’s
clock speed slightly lower than that of the regular iPad.

If you already own an iPad Mini then there is little reason to upgrade,
if you are thinking of getting one then with the new processor it’s a
 beautiful and very fast device.

Below I answered under or by your questions.
Hope it helps some.

Laura Ann

 Hi,
I never touched a Mac before so please dont laugh at these questions!
 1. can I use my Windows USB keyboard with a MacBook?
 2. Does the MacBook have a num pad? my macbook pro does not.
 3. how would I start voiceover for the 1st time? Do nothing when booting up
first time and it will automatically start talking right out of the box

 4. where can I learn about using voiceover on the MacBook for beginners?
David wood burn vision australia and accessible technology is a great
tutorial for mac and apple products and listen to the tech Doctor pod caste
he did a comparison between windows and mac a couple years ago that was
 awesome with Jenny.

and Apple vis has lots of pod cast and info for apple and mac products.

Re: Calendar Issues

2013-09-23 Thread Laura ann Grymes
I have loved using the native calendar app for IOS and not had problems until
IOS 7.
The fix is to use the search button and you can view your list of apts.

It has worked well for me and no issues entering appointments and its been
totally accessible with exception of now just seeing event but am using the
work around until its fixed.

purchase VO Calendar and use it instead. The app is ten dollars and
the layout is a bit odd, but it's easier to manage than the native
calendar layout. Also, when you install it, it will ask if it can
access your calendar, Say ok and all your appointments will be copied
 into the VO calendar.

Wish I had a better solution, but there you go.

Works for us.

I have not had any issues with it and if did would just put away from face and
move back up to make sure it senses your face and goes to phone mode.

 Hi.

The new IPhone could have some advantages for braille users, because it is
faster. I do not think there is much use of it, if you only use speech, but
braille speed e.g. in kindle could possibly be improved.

Are there ever themed crosswords like birding, Bible, gardening, flowers, food,

Re: Bad experience with iTunes Store support regarding app refund

Have you contacted the apple accessibility department by phone.

You need to contact the accessibility department though not just the tech
support.

On Aug 2, 2013, at 1:09 AM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote:

 Hello List,

Requesting a refund for an app which turns out not to work with Voiceover has
come up a few times and the iTunes Store support email has been posted in
connection with that. So I thought I post my recent experience with
contacting iTunes Store support via their email.

I had bought a couple of package tracking apps in order to find out which one
I liked best. I have been using Track This which is awesome, but I am in
Canada and for some reason they don’t support Purolator and CanPar which are
both major carriers here. I contacted Track This support twice and never
 received a reply.

Anyhow, back to iTunes Store support. I provided all the information
including order numbers, purchase date, my Apple Id etc. I explained how I
really enjoyed my iPhone and the fantastic accessibility, but that
unfortunately these two apps I purchased were not voiceover friendly and
there was no Light version offered which I could have tried first. I also
mentioned that I contacted both developers and after almost a week had not
received a reply. In short, I was friendly, explained everything and even
waited to see if the developers would reply to see if they were willing to
 make Voiceover improvements.

I received a prompt reply in which the agent explained that all app sales are
final, but that given the situation they would refund me the $6.72 or
whatever it was for the 2 apps. However, she also continued to give me links
as to their terms and conditions and said that this was a one-time curtocy
and that in the future they could not provide any more refunds and that it
was up to me to make sure I didn’t turn on one-click ordering and accidently
purchase apps or read the app description to be sure it was what I wanted. It
was strange because all of this gave me the impression this person did not at
all get the point about Voiceover and all that, but on the other hand she
said they would give me a refund given the situation. According to what she
said I should see the refund back on my account within 48 hours and since
both apps were purchased using store credit it would come back as store
credit. This is now 2 weeks ago and I replied twice to the initial message to
explain that I still had not received the credit and I am getting no more
 replies.

I guess what I want to say here is that those who have done this and received
refunds are lucky, but it appears one should definitely not count on getting
a refund even if an app turns out not to work with Voiceover. I certainly
will not buy an app again thinking I might as well try it because if it
doesn’t work I can always ask for a refund.

 Regards,
 Sieghard

Yesterday I reported that i had to obtain a replacement set of Aftershokz

because these include some spoken output. When you first turn them on, a
female voice says “Power on’. When turning them on for the first time, the
voice says “Pairing”. When they connect to the iPhone, the voice says
something like “Audio device connected”. When you turn them off, the voice
says, at least at present, “Battery high, power off.”. It is to be noted
that even when fully charged, in the iPhone status line, the phone reports
“Bluetooth battery 88%”. I think that this is perhaps an issue with the way
the iPhone reports on the bluetooth battery, and not with the Aftershokz.

IPhone upgrade

2012-09-08 Thread Laura ann Grymes, LMT
Tony,
Apple will make announcements on September 12.
then everyone will know options.

From what I understand from ATT they won't know what they offer until its
announced as far as the customer service reps go.
They learn when we do.

So watch for September 12 announcement and then you can have info on upgrading
and how to do it I bet.

the weather radio app cost but does alert in a warning and you can choose
whether you want warnings, watches and so on with hurricanes, tornadoes,
thunderstorms, severe storms, fire and so on.

the NOA email link I sent for the web emails hurricane info for Atlantic or
pacific.
you choose and set it up.
you end up with lots of emails in hurricane season but worth it when its
heading your way or toward loved ones.

the
emergency email alert emails are also free and great for your local area alert
by zip code.

you open Ibooks,
select books from top of screen,
tap on bookshelf at bottom left of screen,
select the book you want to read and tap.
the book opens and voice over will read it.
this was using the iphone.

Its the same on an iPad.
Hope that helps to read your book in Ibooks.
You can probably find a wonderful tutorial from Apple Vis or David woodbrige

All are in iTunes or you could find on their web sites.

all your purchased apps will start, go into setting, then general, then
reset. Once there double tap the reset home screen button. You'll be
prompted to be sure you want to do that so tap ok and all your apps will be
arranged alphabetically with a starting on page 2 and so on.

I actually lost one of the default icons for messaging on the main page and
the home screen reset brought it back as well as giving me a clean app
 arrangement.

Re: Aftershokz Headphones with mic

2012-07-08 Thread Laura ann Grymes, LMT
I have the one that does not activate the phone but is a headset.
It works well with the Iphone and I can hear voice over well.
I am using it to hear the time and have my phone be silent while I am working.
I am planning to try the one that also works with the phone to answer calls.

The reviews on amazon.com mentioned some static with that one so was trying the
sport headset first.

So far in the couple weeks I have had the headphones, I like then a lot and
like that I can hear what is going on around me.

It has a small usb adapter type plug and on the other end is a place to plug in
headset.
You plug it into the computer to charge.
I haven't had to charge yet.

I think if you forget to turn off they turn themselves off after a certain
amount of time.
I was using it to test the other day while working and when I went to check
time on my phone it was silent.
I turned them back on and it worked.

so would say they went to sleep or turned off.

The piece for charging was small and you could have missed it in the packaging.
I almost did.
Hope this helps?

Unfortunately, due to some under-the-weather days and an unforeseen

Being behind schedule, you will soon run into one of the bugs I hoped to
fix before it became an issue. However, I will not be able to get the

will begin prompting you to purchase an upgrade when you with to post your

Please rest assured that only $1.99 is charged if you wish to make the

use the app for free if you are simply reading your newsfeed and related

I hope to have the Hardware issue resolved and the app updated soon. After

to read you swipe up or down.
to bring up a menu double tap on any post to see choices.
if you want to interact with a specific post be on it when you double tap and
bring up a menu.
