I mentioned DAISY Easy Reader and Speech Central if you cannot afford Voice
Dream Reader.

Perhaps you should reach out to supp...@voicedream.com
and ask about pricing in other countries.

Or, as you say, just use Easy Reader.

You guys are forgetting about the "Dolphin Easy Reader" app; which has a
Bookshare interface. It's free, thus I plan to use it even more if Voice Dream
ends up being subscriptiononly. Good luck!

Simple solution, if you don’t want to pay, go and find some other app that fits

If you do, continue to enjoy using an app that works mostly flawlessly and

I can’t believe all this negative talk about not wanting to pay $60 per year
for voice dream reader. For me, it is one of the best apps out there for
reading both ebooks and audio content. I’ll tell you all some of the recent
changes the new owners have done for us all. They have recently allowed audio
files in M4a format to properly. When you want to change a reading voice for
a bookshare book, you now have a search option quickly find the voice you
want. You also don’t have to pay for these voices either. You did have to pay
around $5 per voice before. So please stop complaining and pay the $60 per year
if you can. If people pay the money, think of how much better the app will be.
I’ve pcht a lot of time into putting audio books and audio dramas on voice
dream reader with iTunes to not pay the $60 price. When we found out that voice
dream reader might be charging a subscripttion fee this shouldn’t be a surprise
!o anyone. So please if you can, pay the $60!!!

Are you really all that surprised?

Or, were you being sarcastic?

I feel that there are not a lot of messages on the releases, like there once
was, because really not much has changed. Some changes, certainly. But nothing
grand, I don't think.

I am actually trying to decide if I want to upgrade my phone, or just replace

bit.

I have the 12 mini.

Thank you,

As long as it works well particularly muting or unmuting myself.

RE: Question regarding bone conduction headsets

2022-03-11 Thread Marco Curralejo
I totally agree with Nimer. The Opencomms are by far the best ones to buy, both
for comfort, quality and durability. I’ve had my pair for around 14 months
without an issue, plus they offer a 2 year replacement if anything happens to
go wrong.

I’ve tried numerous other ones, but these are by far the best.

Hello Beth,

I've had good luck with my Aftershokz. The ones I use now are the OpenComm,
which are similar to the ones you've had, with the addition of a thin boom mic,
thus making them more useful for phone calls and conferences.

I've tried other models, but find that Aftershokz are the best for sound,
battery, etc.

Unless you want to consider a headset that is not bone conduction, I definitely
think that Aftershokz are the best.

Thanks.

Hello all,

Sadly, it is time for me to buy my third pair of bone conduction headset. I’ve

and maybe roughly one year to 18 months is all the life I should expect given
how much I use them. However, I’m having a hard time justifying the cost for a
third pair. Should I go ahead and get a third pair, or are there other options
worth considering?

Thank you,

I too would recommend Aftershokz. The audio is fine for voice, but some may
find them a bit lacking for high fidelity sound. I haven’t gotten any
complaints from the people I call, so I assume the audio on their end is
adequate.

Here is an interesting article which shows how limited Bluetooth
connectivity is and that includes the ultra high priced Airpods Max headphones:

Bluetooth Is Holding Back Apple’s AirPods Ambitions

So, I'll continue to wait for a Sonos headset which will of course add the
headset to my existing Sonos system via Wi-Fi and will be able to provide
true lossless quality sound and most likely for less than what the Airpods
Max dcost.

RE: AfterShokz headset question

2021-11-06 Thread Marco Curralejo
Can we confirm that you are talking about the opencomms because if that is
the case, I am very surprised you are having any issues. In fact, you are
the first person that I have come across with such problems. Now, if you
are talking about any other set, I can completely understand where you are
coming from. Also, there is a mute button on the open commerce so I'm not
sure where you are getting it from?

experience is similar to this guy’s YouTube review:
https://youtu.be/8FLOK_Eymo8 I wanted them to work, but for $160, I just
wasn’t convinced with the call quality feedback I was receiving. It seems
call quality and the lack of a mute button are common complaints for people
who end up returning them. I know there’s a janky mute function by pressing
multiple buttons etc., but it just feels too clunky. A simple dedicated
mute button would make a world of difference. Especially for a headset
that’s marketed for WFH and teleworking in general.
If you find it works for you, then that’s great. It just wasn’t the case
for me. I ended up going back to my Plantronics 5200 headset.
But again, as far as fit and comfort, the opencomm feel like they’ve got

Hi,

I have to agree with the others here. I have had very good results with the
Open Comm and those I called all said they could hear me fine. To confirm
this, I called two people using both the Open Comm and my Trex Titanium and
they both said it was much clearer with the Open Comm.

At first, it did take me a bit to realize that the boom actually turns from
back to front. When I first got them, the boom arm was turned back to lay
along the side of the Open Comm. I had to rotate the boom arm to come
around to the front and then all went well. I'm wondering if perhaps you
tried them with the boom arm still turned back on itself. This would have
put the microphone back behind your ear and would have produced a poor
signal. Just a thought. Otherwise, perhaps you ended up with a defective set.

RE: Changing Default Browser in iOS14?

2021-03-24 Thread Marco Curralejo
Hi,

Pretty simple to do this:

* Update your browser in the App Store. This is important, as some
browsers took a while to update and thus could not be set as default.
* Open the main iOS Settings app (note that the settings inside the app
don't usually include the option) and scroll down to entry for the browser you
want to become the default. As mentioned, unlike other operating systems, Apple
iOS doesn't include a section for choosing default apps in Settings.
* Tap on the browser's entry, and then scan down the Allow Access section
until you find the Default Browser App option.
* Tap on the Default Browser App option.
* Choose the browser you want to set as the default from the list, and
you're all set. From now on, web pages will open in your favourite web-browsing
app.

Hope this helps.

RE: Masks & Face ID

2021-03-15 Thread Marco Curralejo
Couldn't agree more karma which is why I stated that these sorts of
messages are ridiculous in the context given. Also completely agree that
countries like Australia and New Zealand should be applauded for their
efforts. Unfortunately, this person from New Zealand should not be
applauded for his effort.

On 15 March 2021 19:38:32 Christopher Chaltain wrote:
I completely agree that New Zealand should be held up as a model of a

way you phrase this, by asking questions like “Why do you need to wear face
masks?”, especially the first time you asked this where you didn’t make the
connection with New Zealand, comes across as ridiculing efforts in the US
and other places where wearing masks is a key part of being able to open
the economy up safely. It’s similar to how those who fight against mask
wearing policies call the rest of us “sheople” for taking our CDC
guidelines seriously and who think a tiny inconvenience, like wearing a
mask, is well worth saving lives and safely reopening our economy. The fact
that you also keep asking this same question, even after people explain to
you why we wear masks in the US, and you obviously know that it’s a
political issue over here, makes one wonder why you keep bringing it up the
way you do. Curiosity is a good reason to ask a question, and using a
question to point out what New Zealand did right, is also OK, but asking a
question just to be inflammatory and stir up traffic on a mailing list is
something that should be handled by the list moderator.

RE: Comparing VoiceOver And NVDA

2021-03-01 Thread Marco Curralejo
We have done comparisons between NVDA, Jaws, Dolphin and Windows Narrator in
the past few episodes of Blind Tech Guys, so it may well be worthwhile checking
those out.

www.blindtechguys.com

If people are interested, we will look at doing a comparison between VoiceOver,
Commentary and Talkback

Having used jaws, narrator,

Voiceover and talkback,

Jaws is definatly my choice with windows,

And voiceover on the mac obviously, NvDA I haven’t used enough to make a highly
informed decision but with enterprise systems and in some cases through remote
desktop connections,

Jaws works better for me.

As for the mobile side of things,

To me voiceover Is still out in front,

But talkback gets better with each release

But then of course you get the likes of Samsung trying to create their own
products which although do some things,

Voiceover just works on / with everything in most cases.

True, and Microsoft and Narrator deserve credit for that, but just because
you’re moving faster then someone in front of you doesn’t mean you’ve
necessarily caught them yet. I don’t know if this is the case with Narrator and
VoiceOver, since I don’t use VoiceOver on the Mac myself. I heard this a lot
with Talk Back and VoiceOver, and although there was a time when Talk Back was
making huge strides, and it did get to the point where it was a viable option,
I’m not sure I’d ever say that it ended up heads and shoulders above VoiceOver.
I’m not saying Talk Back doesn’t have it’s pros and there are definitely people
who like Talk Back’s features, and choice is and options are good!

It's a bit general, but of course everybody is more or less biessed towards
whatever system they use, in my case that would be Windows and Jaws and some
are more biessed than others. If anything I would say that if you compare free
screenreaders then nowadays one absolutely would have to include Narrator and
if it is true that voiceover on the MAC has not seen major updates and
development for some years this definitely cannot be said of Narrator. Under
Windows 7 Narrator was very limited and of little use and definitely not a
screenreader one could consider using on a daily bases. Under Windows 10

I think the author is pretty upfront about the fact that they’re currently a
Windows user. Maybe you’d like to point out where the article is incorrect. I’m
not a VoiceOver user on the Mac myself, but I would like to know more.

Also, if you’re going to repost an article it would be good if you could post
the entire article, including who the author is or provide a link to the
article, so people can read it in it’s entirety. BTW, I did see this forwarded
to another list, so this isn’t my first time reading this.

RE: BT headphones for iPhone12 Pro and Max

2021-02-25 Thread Marco Curralejo
Yes, but also remember that iPhones have always used the AAC codec, therefore
it will never sound as good on an iPhone as it will on an android, as for some
reason, iPhones seem to like using a codec that is ridiculously old and not
very good.

Thanks,

RE: Android And iPhone For Sale

2021-01-23 Thread Marco Curralejo
Hello everyone,

I have a couple of items that I am looking to sell, as I have recently
updated to more current devices.

The first item is a 128GB Samsung S10 Plus phone. In perfect condition with
no marks or scratches and no sign of wear or tear. Includes box with all
accessories, as well as a brand-new rubber protective case and a brand-new
screen protector. Asking price is $600 AUD.

The second item is a 256GB Apple iPhone XS Max. Again, in perfect condition,
with a tiny mark from wear and tear on the bottom left-hand corner which is
barely noticeable. Once again, you get the box with all accessories, a
brand-new rubber protective case and a brand-new screen protector. Asking
price for this item is also $600 AUD.

If you are located in Melbourne, I am happy to deliver or you can pick up
for free. Postage costs will need to be applied if you would like the item
posted to you.

Here are some links if you would like further specs and details on either
device.

https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s10+-9535.php

https://www.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_xs_max-9319.php

Please note: Both devices are working perfectly and both batteries are also
working perfectly, as I always take very good care with my devices.

Please PM me or WhatsApp/Telegram/Signal/call/SMS me on +61 412 128 429 if
you would like to discuss or find out any further information.

Finally, photos can be provided of either item upon request.

Warm regards,

RE: CES 2021, BBC Apps And How To Utilise Gestures

2021-01-20 Thread Marco Curralejo
Hello everyone,

Welcome to episode 69 of the Blind Tech Guys. Thanks for listening and we trust
you will enjoy the latest episode of the pod.

We started with a huge thank you to our Blind Tech Guys community, in
particular the forty-nine countries that listen to the podcast. It is thanks to
all of you that the show continues to grow and we certainly appreciate each of
you for taking the time to tune in each week.

Main Discussion On Today’s Episode

The team sat down and discussed CES 2021 and all the announcements that matter.
There were the usual announcements by Asus and HP, but this year, there was a
great deal announced that is relevant to blind and visually-impaired consumers,
and those with hearing loss, as well as other disabilities.

You can get a good run-down on the four day event by <https://bit.ly/3nVhdJL>
checking out this Pocket-Lint article And for accessibility news, check out
this <https://cnet.co/2M0FGQV> CNET article.

For our UK listeners, Marco demonstrates on a Samsung S10+ BBC Sport and BBC
Sounds, two offerings that are very popular for both sports fans and for those
who want to hear all of the various BBC radio offerings.

You can find out more by checking out the <https://bbc.in/2XOVuZA> BBC Sounds
website and the <https://bbc.in/38SGiRp> BBC Sport website.

Marco talks about the <https://bit.ly/2KuCbSo> Trade Up for Samsung app on
Google Play and is thoroughly disappointed with the process Samsung puts
Australian users through in order to purchase the new Samsung S21 offerings and
how inaccessible the Samsung app is.

Did You Know?

Actions are a powerful way of accessing certain system events both on iOS and
Android. Nimer talks about how to make accessing actions easier in Android, and
where actions may be found, as well as why you’d want to use them.

To listen, head on over to the Blind Tech Guys Website,
<https://www.blindtechguys.com/> where you can easily subscribe and listen in
your favourite podcast player, or you can simply just ask your smart speaker to
“play the latest episode of Blind Tech Guys”.

Warm regards,

Marco Curralejo
