Re: Siri seems to have dementia
I don't have the same problems that you are having with Siri. When I ask Siri a question or want to open an app he either doesn't respond or apologises that the Internet isn't working. the Internet is working. I have to ask the question or when I'm wanting to open an app A couple of times. This doesn't happen all of the time. I can't wait for the upgrade as long as they fix Siri. Margaret Sent from my iPhone On 24 Jul 2015, at 5:26 am, Neal Ewers neal.ew...@ravenswood.org wrote: Hi all, I wonder if any of you have had the following problem. I have experienced a lot of situations where I will ask Siri a question and she will say that she doesn’t understand the question. It’s more specific than that. Here is an example. I ask Siri, “What is the latitude of Madison Wisconsin?” Siri says, “I don’t understand the latitude of Madison Wisconsin.” So she knows what I am asking, that is not where the breakdown occurs. I asked her this yesterday and twice she gave me the same answer using the exact same words I used in the question. On the third attempt, she gave me the answer. So, what goes here. Is she becoming brain dead? Is three times the charm? This has also happened on other questions lately. She repeats the question so I know she understands and several attempts later, she will give me the answer. I’ll likely report this to Apple, but I wondered if anyone else had seen this problem. RE: Turning off password
Hi Sieghard I understand what you are saying about passcodes. Can you please tell me where in settings I can set up touch ID. I have looked in Settings and I can’t find it. Margaret Booth From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Monday, 22 December 2014 3:52 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Turning off password Hi Margaret, You can’t turn passcode off if you want to use Touch Id. Passcode is your fail save, after all, what happens if for some reason the fingerprint reader doesn’t unlock your phone. In this case and also after a reboot of the phone you will have to enter your passcode. As Christopher pointed out, you manage both passcode and touch Id in Settings. If you have a passcode you will have to enter the passcode again as soon as you are trying to get into the passcode area. This would prevent somebody from removing or changing the passcode if they got hold of your phone while it was unlocked. Setting up a fingerprint is simple, just tap to add a fingerprint and then follow the instructions and place your finger onto the home button multiple times. At some point when you are mostly done it will ask you to capture the edges of your print and show a picture of a person holding an iPhone and you have to first tap on continue, then do as instructed and capture the edges of your print. When it is done you will get a message that you can now use your fingerprint to unlock the phone. The way I do this is to press the home button briefly, it still has to be pressed so the phone wakes up and the touch Id sensor starts doing it’s thing. I just press and let go and then lightly leave my thumb on the home button for maybe a second or so and usually that is all it takes to unlock the phone. It works super good, it’s typically very reliable and I’d say it works 100% perfect at least 9 out of 10 times I use it. Suggestions for a Grocery list
At present I am using Wunderlist and it has just been upgraded and now it isn't accessible. Before it was upgraded I had no problems using the app. In it I could create my own lists and share the lists with my husband and when either of us entered a new item to the list it would show up on the other persons phone. What I want to know can anyone suggest any accessible apps that I could use to create lists in such as grocery lists and I can share them with my husband. Re: Changing from iMessage to Text message
I have worked it out how to change an iMessage to a text message. What you have to do is to send the message as and iMessage and when it comes up after it has been sent I did a one finger double tab and hold on the iMessage and a menu comes up with copy and text. I double tapped on text and the message was sent as a text message. I hope this helps anyone else who has the same problem. I wish Apple stops changing little things like this. RE: Answering Skype calls
I use Skype on my iPhone all of the Time. A 2 finger double tap won't work. This is the only way I know to answer a Skype call. Margaret -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Raul A. However I have seen that changing the Skype notifications to Alerts instead of banners will help. That way if you are getting a Skype call, you can double tap it from the notification area on your lock screen and unlock your phone. The trick is, you still have to find the answer button because a two finger double tap will not work from what I understand. Not the best solution unfortunately. Those who have memorized the keyboard shortcuts for Safari on the Mac will find these to be identical to their OS X functions, except they’re in the highly mobile iOS world. These will be primarily useful for an iPad with an external keyboard connected through Bluetooth or a keyboard case, but technically they’d work with an iPhone or iPod touch that has been connected to a secondary keyboard as well, if you happen to use a much smaller screened setup. Requirements are fairly straight forward, needing iOS 7.0 or later, and one must have a physical keyboard synced to the device for the keystrokes to be available, as the onscreen virtual keyboard does not (yet) offer this type of functionality. Safari Keyboard Shortcuts for iOS Command+L to go to the URL bar and go to a new location / site, or Search On Page* Command+T to open a new browser tab Command+W to close the currently active browser tab Command+R to refresh the contents of the currently active web browser tab Command+. (period) to stop loading the current tab * The Command+L keyboard shortcut goes to the URL bar, but is also used to perform a “Search on Page” like you would in new versions of Safari without a keyboard attached. It’s a little quirky to get used to, going a bit like this: hit Command+L to visit the Safari URL bar, then start typing the text to search and match on the currently active web page for, finding the matched results below everything else on the list, below all the other keyword matches, found under the “On This Page” section. Search On Page is incredibly helpful and widely used, and this could use some improvement in upcoming versions of iOS, whether you use an external keyboard or not. Of course, iOS keyboard shortcuts are not limited to Safari, and there are actually quite a few core iPad keyboard shortcuts and commands which cover everything from switching apps, navigating the iOS dock and multitasking screen, launching apps, using the Home button, and even moving around and selecting onscreen elements. Many users think of the iPad as a primarily consumption orientated device, but once you learn a few keyboard shortcuts and attach a wireless keyboard, it can function quite well for emailing, web browsing, writing, and many other tasks that don’t require a complete windowed desktop-centric computing experience. One preferred productivity trick I use is to set an iPad against something at eye level while standing, and use it to setup a quick standing desk workstation, which can not only aid productivity for many tasks, but is also much healthier than sitting constantly. Even if you only use such an iPad setup for selective web browsing or sending off quick emails, it’s a good start at not only bettering your health but also getting used to the iPad as a unique production environment. These new Safari keyboard shortcuts were discovered by MacStories, along with a handful of other handy keystrokes accessible with external keyboards when used with the iOS Pages app and Mail app, be sure to check those out on MacStories too. RE: Dictating without the dictation button -- how to do it?
Hi! Kimba What you need to do is to go to the edit field that you want to dictate in and double tap on it to activate the edit field. Once the edit field is activated do a two finger double tap in the edit field and wait until you hear a tone and start dictating your message and once finished do another two finger double tap. Your message will be put into the edit field. I hope this helps. RE: Handwriting - how to get a comma
I sent you a email previously saying that I can't do a full stop in the hand writing mode but I have now worked out how to do it. I'm the same I can't work out how to do a coma. I can do a lot of the other symbols. I have worked out how to do a dash. What I do is to draw a very small line across the screen and this seems to work. I am enjoying playing around with the hand writing mode. Margaret From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, September 22, 2013 8:47 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Handwriting - how to get a comma Hello, I am quite intriqued by the new handwriting feature and have been practicing a bit. I have a feeling that if a person knows how to write which I do since I lost my sight at the age of almost 17, this could become a rather efficient method of text input. I actually don't understand why Apple does not make this available to all iPhone users instead of restricting it to Voiceover users. They could have made Handwriting a keyboard choice so to speak. This way if you added the Handwriting keyboard to your list of keyboards, one could have simply tapped on the keyboard button at the bottom to switch to it, but maybe they have their reasons. Anyhow, I would like to know if somebody has figured out how to best insert a comma. I know of course I have to switch to the punctuation area and I have managed to figure out how to do most commonly used symbols like a period, semicolon, colon, question mark, exclamation mark, Dollar sign, @ symbol, underscore etc. I am still having a bit of trouble with a dash, if you draw a horizontal line across it always interprets it as an underscore. I don't think I managed to get a comma done more than once and I have no idea how I did it. If I simply draw a line down the screen it inserts this as a vertical line, if I give the line a bit of a curve it usually inserts a right parenthesis. Any explanations are appreciated. Re: Dont recommend updating to IOS 7
I upgraded my iPhone 5 to IOS7 yesterday afternoon and I'm finding IOS7 great. I'm not having any problems with it at all. I can understand your concerns. Sometimes I'll just hold the phone up toward my shoulder/ear and type/text so I can keep the volume down real low for privacy, but this looks really odd and unprofessional. Re: suggestions for a good daisy app
Thanks for that but could you recommend a free daisy app. The reason for this is that my daughter is going overseas and she wants to listen to a few of my daisy books on her iPhone and she will only use it when she is travelling. Suggestions for an accessible diary/journal app
Can anyone suggest an accessible diary or journal app for my iPhone that I can use while I'm on holidays. I'm going overseas with my husband for a few weeks and I want to be able to write down what I'm doing as I'm travelling. I don't know if if it is possible that in the app there is an option to email my entries to me. Thanks for anyone's help.
