3-finger tap should get you Help.

But I’m seeing that it doesn’t work for some users. I’m trying to figure out
why.

Best,

Winston.

Re: voice dream virsus read 2 go

2014-03-04 Thread Winston Chen
I know about the problem you're describing. Believe it or not, it's caused by a
bug in the built-in IOS voices. These problems do not occur with Heather, or
any of the paid voices.

This problem will go away in iOS 7.1 -- I verified it in iOS 7.1 beta.

Hi Winston,
First of all, let me say that I love Voice Dream reader. However, since the
latest update, I have been experiencing great difficulty when using the app. I
should explain that I listen to books, when I am reading in English, using
Daniel the voice-over voice. My problem occurs when I try to pause or restart
the reading. I tend to have to either press the pause/play button three times
all make the two finger double tap, also, three times, before anything happens.
Plus, when I restart reading, I find the cursor has moved on quite a long way
through the text. So, I wonder, are you looking into this? Or, perhaps, it is
only me and I will have to try to reinstall the app?

Thanks for your time,

Re: Julia's Voice Not Listed In Voice Dream Lite

2013-03-03 Thread Winston
The voices are free in the lite version, but they're limited to reading
200-300 characters at a time. In the paid version the voices are $2-$3 a
piece.
I think the best male voice is Paul. The best female voice is the included
voice of Heather. Some prefer Julie. She's a good voice but perhaps toperky for
some.
Best,
Winston.

Re: voice dream and bookshare.

2013-03-03 Thread Winston
In the next release of Voice Dream Reader, which will come out in a few
days, you'll be able to move files from the computer to your iPhone or iPad
using iTunes.

I looked into reading brf files, and it doesn't seem that difficult. It's a
matter prioritizing it among the dozens of items on my to do list. If you
feel strongly about needing this feature, please let me know.

Best,

Winston.

Hi,

I'm the developer of Voice Dream Reader. I assume you mean the voice of
Julie, not Julia. Julie is not available in the Lite version because the
maker of the voice, NeoSpeech, has not yet given me the permission to
distribute it in the free version. I'm working on that, and it should be
out soon.

Kimberly and John. thanks a lot for the plug.

Of course, Voice Dream Reader can download DAISY books from Bookshare.
If you have your own DAISY books, it is actually possible to open it. I
haven't publicized it.
Take your .zip DAISY book and change ".zip" to ".daisy".
Put the file in Dropbox, and open it from Voice Dream Reader.
I heard that the directory structure in the zip file must be correct: same
as the DIASY files you download from Bookshare. If that's the case, it
should work.

Re: voice dream virsus read 2 go

2013-02-28 Thread Winston
The release with VoiceOver access to the text will be out in a few days.

My short term goal is to make my app at least as accessible as iBooks,
which does not have things like navigation by sentence. I don't think
iBookssupport line mode in the Rotor which Voice Dream will. I think with the
next release, Voice Dream will be more accessible than iBooks.

I'm the developer of Voice Dream Reader. I'm just finishing up the next
release, which will have page navigation for Bookshare books, and
VoiceOveraccess to the text. I plan to submit it to Apple this week, which
means
it'll be out next week.

I'm listening to you and I'll do my best to make my app work for you.

You can try using Voice Dream Reader, which is a text-to-speech reader, and
load the Book of Mormon ePub book into it.

Hi,

By the way, you don't have to turn VO off. You can do 2-finger left and right
swipe in the Text area for sentence rewind and fast forward.

You can also skip the bookshare notice using the pre-loaded chapter marks.

Re: Voice Dream Reader rewinding and fast fording?

2013-01-08 Thread Winston Chen
Hi, thanks for buying my app!

Text navigation will be improved a lot in the next release. It will be out in a
few weeks.

The text area has VoiceOver turn off. That means it scrolls, which I know is
not ideal for VoiceOver users. You can double tap to start reading from a word,
which gives you an imprecise but workable way to navigate.

You can also use the pre-built chapter marker, which can be accessed from
"Bookmarks" and "Chapters".

You can set your own bookmarks by pressing on word and hold. I know it doesn't
say the word you selected (which the next release will do.). A bookmark is
always set at the beginning of the paragraph, so you don't need to be precise.

In this release, after you move the slider, you'll have to double tap on the
text area to move the speech cursor. This behavior will change in the next
release: you won't need to double tap when VoiceOver is on.

Dropbox files do not need to be zipped.

Please be patient as I improve my app to meet your needs better. And I promise
it will get better and better.

Best,

Winston.

Hi.
I use iBooks, since I don't feel like having to create an account on the
Barnes and Noble website, then purchase the content through the other store
and then load Nook on my iPhone to read the content. I use iBooks where ever
posible. There is always that new app called Voice Dream Reader with the $1
upgrade that provides access to Bookshare books if you're a subscriber, but
I have yet to try it. Or if you want to pay the $20, you can get read2go,
which is Bookshare's app. At this time, there is no NLS app for iOS.

You can download books from Project Gutenberg directly from Voice Dream Reader
without leaving the app.

The app is universal and runs on all your iDevices once you buy it. It takes
advantages of the larger screen of the iPad and iPad mini, not just a blown-up
iPhone app.

I recommend Dropbox for moving files to the device. Voice Dream can access
files in your Dropbox directly.

Hi,
I'm the developer of Vocie Dream Reader. The easiest way to get a feel of
what the app does is to start listening to "Pride and Prejudice" preloaded
in the app.
The premise of the app is that it reads long running content like articles
and books while give you a lot of control over how speech is rendered.

that is handy. The only thing is, how does one set bookmarks in a particular
book, or is it possible with voiceover yet. I can get to all the bookmarks that
are automatically generated but didn't know if I could set my own. I haven't
explored the chapter marks yet and was wondering if that is a separate setting
or how that works, but I use a lot of the automatically generated bookmarks to
navigate with now which is nice. Anyway, thanks again for getting back to me,
and keep up the great work. I'm recommending it to not only blind and visually
impaired patrons of mine since I work for the Library for the Blind here in
Alabama, but I am also recommending it to students with learning disabilities
that are on bookshare and even if they're not to use the app because of all it
does provide for the price especially. I'm hooked and hope to see more great
updates and features as you can. Thanks for a great product and keep up the
great work. Take care and talk to you soon.

Hi,

Yes I did get your email. I'm thinking through text navigation of the text area
right now. I don't want to rush to a solution yet. I can't just turn on VO
support because I built the text box myself in order to handle very large text.

Quite a few blind users are using my app happily now, using a combination of
chapter marks, bookmarks, text search, and manual scrolling.

Best,

Winston.

One more thing, you can go to Bookmarks-Chapters and use that to navigate.
Most Bookshare books have a Chapter marker for the start of the book after
the copyright text.

Hi,
I'm the developer of Vocie Dream Reader. The easiest way to get a feel of
what the app does is to start listening to "Pride and Prejudice" preloaded
in the app.
The premise of the app is that it reads long running content like articles
and books while give you a lot of control over how speech is rendered.
Best,
Winston.

Re: Voice Dream Reader

2013-01-06 Thread Winston
Hi,
I'm the developer of Voice Dream Reader. You're right: text navigation with
VoiceOver on needs work. I'm thinking through this problem carefully and
will have a good solution soon.
For now, you can do a search in the text to find the Title, for example,
and make a bookmark there. I know making a bookmark requires the imprecise
long-press on the screen. It may help to know that when it navigates to a
piece of text through search, the text is about one quarter down from the
top of the screen.
My goal is for you to do everything around long-running content with one
text to speech readers. I think we'll get there soon.
Best,
Winston.
