It still listens. When you are done typing to Siri, especially when sending a

Re: A Rookie Question about Texting

2018-08-18 Thread TaraPrakash
That defeats the purpose when U set it to type to Siri it stops listening
completely. For some strange reason Apple allows you to make changes by typing
to what Siri heard when you are asking it to search for something. But that
option is not available when you are asking to send a message.

It happened to me when I tried doing a regular text to my son, not using Siri.
Everything worked fine, even got the smiling with sunglasses emodicon or
whatever you call the thing, but I never could get it sent.

Best regards,

I type in the name or part of the name, then double tap. The phone displays
any names with those characters and I double tap on the one I want. I don't go
to contacts at all.

RE: A Rookie Question about Texting

2018-08-18 Thread Carolyn Arnold
But with Siri, you can keep telling her change and start over. If you listen,
in most cases, you can tell whether or not she has it right. I find that to
dictate texts, I need to talk slower than I normally would more like my North
Carolina daughter-in-law, but mor distinctly and give punctuations and capital
instructions where needed. For me, to use Siri requires very careful listening
to make sure that the message is what I want it to be.

Best regards,

Carolyn

When you ask Siri, you can’t modify or add text. For this case, you should use
dictate to be able to do it.

This evening I tried to send a text to a friend who’s in my
contacts. At the “to” field, I typed in her name. Then I flicked right to “add
contact” and found her name in the table, and double-tapped. Then I flicked
right and there was her phone number with her name; double-tapped there. Then I
flicked right to the message field and double-tapped typed in my message, and
tapped Send. The message did not go through.

When you are sending a message to somebody in your contacts,
which is what I’m going to do most of the time, do you type in their name, or
do you just go straight to “add contact” and choose them? Sometimes I can get
this to work just fine, and sometimes it seems to confound me. So I exit out
and ask Siri to do it. IN this case I wanted to say more than Siri allows …

What am I doing wrong? I feel really silly.

Susie

It happened to me when I tried doing a regular text to my son, not using Siri.
Everything worked fine, even got the smiling with sunglasses emodicon or
whatever you call the thing, but I never could get it sent.

I type in the name or part of the name, then double tap. The phone displays
any names with those characters and I double tap on the one I want. I don't go
to contacts at all.

RE: A Rookie Question about Texting

2018-08-18 Thread Ann Byrne

So I missed the important part. Waking up now.
1. Open messages.
2. double-tap on compose. Now you have a to-line, just as in an email.
3. Type in the name from your contacts and double-tap on it.
4. The phone will display a phone number and/or
email address for each contact with that name.

5. Double-tap on the one you want.
6. When the phone understands, flick right until
it says, "message; text field".

7. Double-tap on that, and it will say, "edit".

Hello Susie,
I would like to suggest you another way to do it.go to your message text,
Choose the button to write a new message, sorry, I don’t know how exactly it
names because my iPhone is in French but it is at right top to your screen.
You will have the field to type the name or the phone number of the person you
wish to write,
Above you will have suggestions that you can double tappe
after, flip ride until you found text field, type your message and send it.
Hope it helps

RE: A Rookie Question about Texting

2018-08-17 Thread Ann Byrne
I type in the name or part of the name, then
double tap. The phone displays any names with
those characters and I double tap on the one I
want. I don't go to contacts at all.

I've had similar issues, where texting from
contacts hasn't always worked. I'd also be interested in answers.
As for texting with Siri, I've not run into a
limit. And, if Siri stops before you're ready,
and when she asks if you want to sent it, say
"Append." She will then ask you what you want to add.

Subject: A Rookie Question about Texting

This evening I tried to send a text to a friend
who’s in my contacts. At the “to† field, I
typed in her name. Then I flicked right to
“add contact† and found her name in the
table, and double-tapped. Then I flicked right
and there was her phone number with her name;
double-tapped there. Then I flicked right to the
message field and double-tapped typed in my
message, and tapped Send. The message did not go through.

When you are sending a message to somebody in
your contacts, which is what I’m going to do
most of the time, do you type in their name, or
do you just go straight to “add contact† and
choose them? Sometimes I can get this to work
just fine, and sometimes it seems to confound
me. So I exit out and ask Siri to do it. IN this
case I wanted to say more than Siri allows …

What am I doing wrong? I feel really silly.
