Anyone experiencing these truly infuriating iPhone issues: dumped out of apps, inability to view videos or listen to podcasts in appps, etc., silence when trying to access articles linked in apps

2014-01-05 Thread Christine Grassman
For the past few weeks, whenever I link to an article on Facebook, Twitter,
Search It, etc., VoiceOver starts reading, then goes completely silent and
freezes. I am then forced to exit out and go back in to double-click on the
desired link, which then acts the same way, or wait a moment or two for the
information to load, which it does every so often.
Also, whereas I used to be able, with no problem, to play podcasts or YouTube
links from within Facebook, Twitter, etc., now I am shown that the track
position is changing, that the time is elapsing, but there is no sound.
I have tried running the battery down and recharging, shutting down the iPhone
and restarting, closing all apps, then reopening desired ones to reach what I
wish to read or listen to, but nothing is working.
Often, I am simply dumped to the home screen after VO freezes me out.

2014-01-05 Thread Scott Blanks
You've very likely already exhausted these options, but make sure you are
updated to the latest version of iOS. Also, have you tried doing a hard
shutdown of the phone? I'm using a 4S, so this might differ on a newer model,
but holding down the home button and the lock button on top of the phone for
several seconds will turn off the phone. Start up the phone in the usual
manner, and hopefully your problem will be alleviated.

Also, sometimes IOS stops to catch up or something. I remember David wrote a
great post on this a way backe. Because of his post I try to hold off touching
the screen when IOS goes off to see if it rights itself age. Can't tell you the
name of the subject so can't send you to the archives, but it has to do with
touching the screen and it trying to do your command when it is resetting
itself. Not a techie and don't really have the words for this, but that is what
I gleaned from David's description. May even not have anything to do with what
is going on with your device but thought I'd try and help a bit anyway. Sorry
if I am completely missing what is happening with your phone.

Re: Anyone experiencing these truly infuriating iPhone issues: dumped out of apps, inability to view videos or listen to podcasts in appps, etc., silence when trying to access articles linked in apps

2014-01-05 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Unless your phone isn't responding at all, I'd avoid the forced shutdown
by holding down the home and lock button and just do a normal shutdown
by holding down the lock button until the dialog pops up asking if you
want to shutdown the phone. Maybe these two types of shutdown are
different, but if they're not, a graceful shutdown, when it's available,
will be safer.

Re: Anyone experiencing these truly infuriating iPhone issues: dumped out of apps, inability to view videos or listen to podcasts in appps, etc., silence when trying to access articles linked in apps

2014-01-05 Thread Joanne Chua
Depends on what version of os you using and also what hardware you have. I
found the similar issue with certain apps, Facebook in particular. It works for
a minute or two, then it crashes. Sometime is the problem with VO itself,
trying to catch up with the app, and sometime it crash totally.
I also found that when you open the app , the app is refreshing the content,
while voiceover still trying to read on where got highlighted on previous
session.
My observation is with ios7.4 and the latest facebook app, with vo and sight.
The crashes usually happen with the ipad more so than the iphone.
