Solved my Apple tv issue
Hello everyone, I feel so silly, because it took me a while to think that this could be the issue. But I solved my Apple tv issue,. You see, I have 2 3rd generation Apple tv's. One I bought a while back, and it is in the living room. The other one I have, is the one I bought about 3 years ago, and it is in my bedroom. I was telling my roommate just a bit ago, the problem I ran in to, with the one in the bedroom. Then I remembered that just a few weeks ago, he helped me get cbs all-access set up on the one in the living room. The one in the bedroom hadn't been used in quite a while, like almost a year, because I had no internet. So it was just out of date. I updated it, and all is good now. So I feel silly having wrote you all for help. But that just honestly never occurred to me. Thank you, Terri -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. RE: Apple TV Issue
I still don't see why the Apple TV or even Voiceover should reboot itself if the WiFi isn't good enough to stream. If that is the case the video would pause and buffer. Are you connecting to a 2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz network? If you use 5 Ghz your router should also have a 2.4 Ghz. Try to connect to it. I bought what is considered to be one of the fastest and fanciest routers currently out there, a Netgear Nighthawk R800 X6 which is over $300 in Canada. I thought for sure this thing would be blazing fast and handle anything as well as provide super good coverage since it claims the following: Wireless speed of up to 3.2Gbps, 3 WiFi bands, Smart Connect intelligence, and Dynamic QoS— guarantees every device is assigned the fastest WiFi connection possible and optimized for maximum speed. I have a second generation Apple TV which of course only supports 802.11N and not AC and as far as I know only 2.4 Ghz. When I connected it to one of the 5 Ghz networks (which should be backwards compatible) my streaming went down the tube, the video paused every 20 or 30 seconds, buffered, played again for a bit and so on. I went back into Settings and connected it to the routers 2. 4 Ghz network and it works flawlessly. Also, 2.4 Ghz goes further and offers better signal strength although it is supposed to be more prone to interference from other 2.4 Ghz devices if you have any. I'm sure any new Apple TV this fall will have the latest 802.11AC hardware and probably work great on a 5 Ghz network, but for now it's something to consider. Anyhow, either way, even when I had these issues the Apple TV or Voiceover don't reboot, it just won't stream without pauses. Have you tried to simply unplug it for a minute and plug it back in? Make sure it's updated to the latest version. RE: Apple TV Issue
I did some additional testing and discovered the following: I took the 3rd generation apple TV which is my new one from downstairs and connected it upstairs where the 2nd generation is having the reboot issues. I connected it with the optical audio cable just like the 2nd generation was. The 3rd generation played with no issues at all. So, in closing it isn't the optical cable like I suspected. So, back to the drawing board and hoping for some suggestions. Re: Apple TV Issue
Hi, It's a strange issue for sure. Unfortunately, for things like this, it's just a case of changing things one by one until the problem is solved. To this end, I would advise: Connecting the Apple TV to your network using an Ethernet cable. Reinstalling the OS using iTunes. Cheers, Ben. RE: Apple TV Issue
Sieghard I did some additional tests and I now think I know what the issue is but not sure how to fix it. Here is the current setup. Downstairs: I have the newer apple TV connected to a Samsung TV via a H D M I cable and setup as wireless. No issue with this setup at all. Can stream video and audio. Upstairs: I am using the older apple TV here and have it setup as wireless as well. Now, instead of using a H D M I cable, I have it connected to a DAK via an audio cable. The DAK has two speakers connected to it. I can stream ITunes radio stations with no interruption at all. However, if I try to stream anything with video the apple TV will reboot. Now, as an experiment, I took the apple TV from upstairs and connected it downstairs, replacing the newer one, via the H D M I cable and had no problems. So, I am guessing that the issues has something to do with the type of connection I am using with the digital cable upstairs. I've read on this list that others have used just a digital cable with no problems so not sure how to resolve this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I hope I explained things well enough. RE: Apple TV Issue
I have a second generation Apple TV as well and tonight we used it the first time in probably a week or so and it did the same thing. My Apple TV is connected to a Sony LCD TV via HDMI and when I started playing the first movie from the Hunger Games series it stopped after a few seconds, then after a while Voiceover said Voiceover On and my wife said it just sat there and said Loading. We then turned Voiceover off and my wife was able to start the movie on Netflix and it played just fine. Very strange. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Blind Treasures Sent: Sunday, August 30, 2015 1:40 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Apple TV Issue I did some additional testing and discovered the following: I took the 3rd generation apple TV which is my new one from downstairs and connected it upstairs where the 2nd generation is having the reboot issues. Apple TV Issue
I have a strange issue going on with my apple TV. I moved it upstairs to my bedroom and now when I go to play a netflix show it reboots after about five minutes or less of play. I tried resetting the network with no change and also unplugging it with the same result. Any ideas? Re: Apple TV Issue
It's buried in the Netflix settings on the web site, so perhaps give them a call and let them adjust your video settings so that when Netflix streams to you, the quality is lower. I did this once, but forgot where it is in the complicated website. I set the quality to lowest, and nothing seems to be affected, at least with the audio. I'm sure the video is fine too.
