Re: blind square help please. How do I enter a distant location into my places so that I can simulate a route?
On the first screen of Blind Square, find the search button in the top left, not the my places search, but the plain search button. Enter the address, for example, I'm in Oregon, I put in a made up address, 500 Broadway, New York City, NY And found one place over 2 thousand miles away, I flicked right to that search result and double tapped. Then, flick right until you get to Simulate this location and double tap. You do not have to add it to My Places first. I have not used this feature for some time so this may not be true, but to the best of my memory, you need to go into the simulation first and then enter the area you wish to simulate. Re: Blind Square Help
Hi, GPS accuracy is less of a factor on this than is your orientation of the phone. Blind Square is not designed to be in your pocket. The top of the phone needs to be pointed in the direction you are walking for best results. Your current location is GPS, and your point of interest is GPS, but there is no way to give you a direction relative to the clock unless your getting a valid compass reading. This is why keeping it in your pocket is prone to errors. Just think about it. If you stand still, and rotate your phone in a circle, you will get different values for your target. It will walk around the clock as you turn you phone. So, if you rely on that feature, you must point your phone in the direction your facing. All you pocket people are prone to all sorts of errors in this case. Eileen's solution to have it report ordinal compass values is possible with just two GPS coordinates, but it's up to you to know what direction your are facing on the compass. Sometimes, GPS apps can extrapolate a direction based on your walking progress, but again, this is less accurate than a direct compass reading. I won't go into the math here. Regardless, I think Blind Square doesn't support this calculation. Best. --k Faith doesn't give you the answers, it merely stops you from asking the questions. RE: Blind Square Help
Hello, Just an add on to various compass solutions. While in my blindness training, I was taught to use the sun (if present). This won't work well if on a cloudy or rainy day. The other solution is to purchase a braille or talking compass. I do have one, but I am well-aware of which streets in my local area are north/south and east/west. I do carry my braille compass on me at all times though. HTH. Re: Blind Square Help
Hello, While I was out yesterday, I noticed that Blind Square gave me an update on location using the wrong address and street. I was just beginning my walk, so I knew which street I was on and realized immediately that Blind Square was having a bad hair day at that moment. I have my directions set to cardinal. This way I can confirm which direction I am going using the sun if I feel that Blind Square is off. I really need to contact support to voice my concern and see how to get a more accurate reading out of the app. HTH. On the perfect conditions day, GPS can be as accurate as 15 feet. Typically, GPS is about as accurate as 30 to 60 feet. I have seen GPS be as inaccurate as three miles on a nicely completely overcast day. There is nothing any app can do when the GPS accuracy drops because of factors outside the device's control. Me thinks people forget how inaccurate GPS can be because Apple has found ways to make it more often fairly accurate. By the way, 15 feet is the length of the front of a plot of property, or the length of two stoundard-sized cars parked with a small space between them, and at any time you can be anywhere within that circle.
