Re: Blocking unwanted calls on the iPhone

2016-12-21 Thread Jan Kleinhans
Hi

There is an app, called truecaller, but this does not block calls from "no
i.d." numbers, in other words, where no caller id is displayed. This app has
an extensive list of reported spam numbers, and this grows almost every day.
You can also report a number as spam, should it get to your phone, and those
numbers can then be blocked.

Well, I gather that AT has started some kind of spam blocking service, but
I am not an AT customer. And if you have android, there are call blocking
apps. So I was hoping there might be something for the iPhone as well. I know
about stopping each number after the fact. And I'm not worried about text
messages, because I don't get any that I don't want. At least not yet. It's
just that I have actually started to get a few spam calls on my iPhone after
years of being left alone. I have no idea how my number is getting into
circulation, but there you go.

I use the Do Not Disturb feature to stop the phone from ringing then I use the

Re: Blocking unwanted calls on the iPhone

2016-12-21 Thread Shai
Hello Mary,
To block a number, it does not have to be in contacts. You can go to
your recents tab and tap on the more info button. You can then find
the block this caller option and double tap it.
If you ever want to unblock it, the number will be visible under the
call blocking settings.
This is the way it is on my iPhone running iOS 10.1.1 and I can not
imagine that this feature would have been changed for iOS 10.2.
Also, if you are looking to block or be warned of spam calls, an app
like Hiya is able to do this thanks to the new call kit functionality
built in to iOS 10.

 Hope this helps

Re: Blocking unwanted calls on the iPhone

2016-12-21 Thread Richard Turner

Thanks Anthony, but I know that.
Mary was looking for a way to prevent calls before having to do that, which you
can kind of do in the messages app.
Say, if someone calls who is not in my contacts, they are blocked without me
having to take the time to manually block them.
And, just to be clear, do not double tap on the phone number in your recent
calls list or you will be calling them back. Just flick to More Info and double
tap, that is where you find the block caller option.

Blocking unwanted calls on the iPhone

2016-12-21 Thread Mary Otten
I know it is possible to block unwanted calls from a known number. That is, you
get a call, you don't want to hear from that number anymore, and you tell The
phone app to block anything more coming from there. But what I am looking for
is something that would be a bit more proactive, that is, something that could,
for example, block any call that is coming from a number that is either not in
my contacts or one that I have not previously dialed. Does such a thing exist?
Mary
