Re: Downcast update to fix audio playback issue

2015-10-01 Thread Jenny Wood
I just downloaded and installed an update to Downcast this morning. I was
previously experiencing problems playing a particular podcast, not sure if it
affected others, but as far as I can tell, that issue appears to be resolved
now. I’m not sure what the original problem mentioned here happen to be, but
as for my own, it would play about two minutes of a given podcast, than stop,
even though Downcast said there was more than an hour left.

Downcast update to fix audio playback issue

2015-09-30 Thread David Cleveland
I was told by the Downcast developer that the next update to the app will fix
the problem with controlling the audio playback of podcasts. He did not say
exactly when the update will be available.

RE: New Downcast Update

2015-09-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
This has been happening in Audible even well before iOS 9 and I do know for a
fact I have seen other messages from Audible users who have reported this. Like
I said, maybe it's app related and maybe it's not, I don't know enough about
how this all works in the background to say.

didn't start when I began using 9.0. I noticed it a couple of weeks

bug report to Apple.

RE: New Downcast Update

2015-09-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Just FYI, this is not exclusive to Downcast. I sometimes get this behavior in
the Audible app as well especially if you play one book, then stop it and start
playing another book. If I do that and then try to pause the second book with a
2-finger double tap I pretty much always get music while the Audible book plays
on. I can stop the music with another 2-finger double tap, then if I use the
Play/Pause button in Audible once I can again use the 2-finger double tap for
the book. I wonder if this is not something Apple needs to fix rather than the
developer.

Sieghard

RE: Downcast Update

2015-09-22 Thread Chris Smart

Hi Mark.
I had thought the problem was partially resolved but nope, I'm still
seeing music start playing when I try starting and stopping playback in
Downcast. For the record, I do not have the music app open when this
occurs. I'll try opening it as well, as you suggest below, to see if that
changes the behavior.
For reporting this to Apple, is this something that affects everyone, or
just Voiceover users? i.e. is two-finger double tap just a Voiceover
gesture?

As for the random incidence of music being played as the result of the
two-finger, double-tap gesture intended for a third-party app such as
Downcast or BARD Mobile, I suggest the following:
1.
Close the third-party app,
2.
Assuming that the native Music app is not running, launch it.

Now launch the third-party app, such as Downcast.
4.
Start playback of a third-party media file such as a podcast episode

Hello,
I am encountering the issue of a two finger double tap not stopping or
starting playback in the latest version of downcast. I also encountered
this issue in the previous version as well. I believe that it is an iOS9
issue. The problem did not appear to happen till I upgraded my 6+ to the

As for the random incidence of music being played as the result of the
two-finger, double-tap gesture intended for a third-party app such as
Downcast or BARD Mobile, I suggest the following:

1.
Close the third-party app,

3.
Now launch the third-party app, such as Downcast.

4.
Start playback of a third-party media file such as a podcast episode using

I just updated to the latest version of Downcast, released today, and cannot
reproduce the problem you describe. That is to say, a two-finger,

episode, as it has always done.

As for the random incidence of music being played as the result of the

Hi Chris,

I too just updated to the version that came out today and the two finger start
and stop is working again. I tested it with the app opened on screen, closed,
and on the locked screen and the two finger tap to pause and resume worked in
all areas.

RE: Downcast Update

2015-09-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Chris,

I just updated to the latest version of Downcast, released today, and cannot
reproduce the problem you describe. That is to say, a two-finger, double-tap,
does, indeed, stop and start playback of the current podcast episode, as it has
always done.

As for the random incidence of music being played as the result of the
two-finger, double-tap gesture intended for a third-party app such as Downcast
or BARD Mobile, I suggest the following:

1.
Close the third-party app,

2.
Assuming that the native Music app is not running, launch it.

3.
Now launch the third-party app, such as Downcast.

4.
Start playback of a third-party media file such as a podcast episode using the
play-/pause button.

5.
Now, stop and start playback using the two-finger, double-tap gesture.

Finally, As I have encountered the non-intentional music playback problem from
within several third-party apps I would argue that this problem is one that
exists at the OS level and is not app-specific. I do not remember encountering
this problem in iOS 7 or earlier.

Subject: Downcast Update

I noticed an update to Downcast this morning. It appears that although a
two-finger double tap no longer starts music playing or other odd behavior, now
it does nothing. So, it's better, but I do hope this gesture returns for
starting and stopping playback.

It does this when double tapping to pauise. Imagine my surprise when I
did this and Aero Smith started playing.

Bug in new Downcast update

2015-09-16 Thread David Cleveland
I installed the latest Downcast app update yesterday and immediately discovered
a bug. I confirmed it with the developer and he is aware of it.

When using the media controls on earbuds with Downcast running it will randomly
start playing other media sources such as Apple Music. I use my earbud
controls to stop and start podcasts a lot. The previous versions of Downncast
were flawless when using the earbud media controls.

Downcast update

2013-05-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Listers,

A few days ago a Downcast update mentioned accessibility improvements. Since
I didn't notice anything major I decided to write to the developer and ask
what specifically was improved. I also asked him if he had plans to
implement the Action rotor which would allow for deletion of Podcasts with a
single finger swipe up or down and a double tap like the way one would
delete an email. Following is his reply:

In addition to what I believe is a more accessibility-friendly feed refresh
indicator, v2.8.3 now also properly sets the accessibility label for the
"auto feed refresh disabled" icon on podcast subscription rows (it was
effectively hidden from VoiceOver in previous versions).

Better support for the rotor is still on my list to investigate (I had
trouble finding documentation about this feature in the past).

Regards,

Sieghard
