Re: Fleksy and a podcast or chat about how to use

2016-01-18 Thread Krister Ekstrom
In the fleksy app, there are 5 buttons along the top, the rightmost of these is
called ”more”. Here you get a list with different options in it. You want the
one called settings. When you’ve double clicked this one, a dialog comes up
with various settings to change. The one you want is a switch button named
”voice feedback”. Make sure this one is on.

What do you mean you don’t see any keys? firstly, does Voiceover say ”Key pad”
when touching the area where the keyboard pops up when in a text field? Do you
hear a clicking sound when touching in the area? If not one of two things could
have happened. 1, you haven’t allowed Fleksy full access which it has to have
in order to function.
2, In the voiceover rotor, make sure ”direct touch” is enabled.
Hope this helps.

RE: Fleksy and a podcast or chat about how to use

2016-01-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I think when it comes to things like typing whether on the regular virtual
keyboard or Fleksie and taking pictures whether for a photo or inside an app
like Camfind, KNFB Reader, Tap Tap See etc. results vary greatly. Krister, for
example, stated several times that he can't take a good picture if his life
depended on it yet he is proficient with Fleksie which many others have
problems with.
This just goes to show that we all have different skills, talents and some are
good at something without trying hard and others just can't do it. I tried
Fleksie again after reading Krister's message and while I was able to type some
stuff, I don't have the patience to spend a lot of time with it to see if I can
get really good at it. Just as others I had a heck of a time to get back to the
regular keyboard and I followed Krister's advice about making sure voice
guidance was on, key clicks was on, I initially made the keyboard large, but
think that actually made it harder for me etc. One thing I seemed to have a
hard time finding was that button to switch keyboards, on the regular Apple
keyboard it is easy to find right to the left of the spacebar but unless you
turn spacebar on the Fleksie keyboard has no spacebar since you swipe to insert
a space. I was also a bit confused by all these themes and stuff. I'd really
love it if Krister would take the time to produce a Podcast going over this
from start to finish, e.g. how to first configure Fleksy and then to be
inspired by what is possible I'd like to hear him type out a longer piece of
text in an app like Notes just to see what is possible. How about it mein
Freund!

Sieghard

No need for you to be flamed, but you sound as though you are flaming others
yourself. No one is saying they can't learn Fleksy, they just need guidance.
We all learn in different ways and different paces. Keep this in mind because,

As you can see, and i’ll probably get flamed for this, Fleksy is not

Yeh, Sandy, when it first came out, I did well. However, with the bells and
whistles, I have been thrown a wild curve for sure. I got to where I didn't
like Fleksy and that kind of disappointed me, since they began with a

Krista,
Precisely! It is that learning curve but we are enquiring about. I have the
latest version of fLeksy on my phone, but I keep taking it out of my
keyboard list because I find it unworkable. I haven't managed to write a
single word with it yet! I seem to keep seeing a keypad. sometimes, and I
don't know how, the keyboard appears, and I input the word using the old
pattern method, and then swipe right. but I don't hear a suggested word. I
can only repeat, in the past, I was something of a power user of the early
versions of fleksy and fleksy vo. all the new bills and whistles seem to
exclude me nowadays. so, from those of you who are doing so well, could you

Have you turned on the voice feedback in the preferences of the Fleksy app? If
not, then that’s the first thing you want to do.
I don’t know if this is necessary at all, but in the extensions part of the
fleksy app, there’s an extension called ”one handed mode” this is an useful
extension to have at least on larger phones because it moves the keyboard and i
believe it shrinks it as well, making it possible to only use one hand to type.
I use it on my 6s+.
There’s also a section for increasing or decreasing keyboard size. When i
started having good results with the keyboard was when i increased the size of
the keyboard to large, this keyboard size is useful for practising until you
feel you can get a grip on the keyboard.
Do you have any audible feedback from the keyboard at all?

Do you have the keyboard click sounds on? If not, you can turn them on in the
settings of Fleksy. The click sounds indicate that you’re indeed on the
keyboard and typing.

Fleksy and a podcast or chat about how to use

2016-01-15 Thread Robin Christopherson
Krister

I think my main problem is that, when quickly tapping out a word on the
keyboard and aiming for keys on the top row, I don’t know when I’m tapping off
the top of the keyboard and hence either the letters aren’t being registered as
part of the word or I’m even actually tapping things within the document or
moving my focus to that point etc. Tapping quickly as one does when writing a
word in Fleksy is quick enough to be treated as a double tap so you can do all
sorts of mischief by tapping off the top of the keyboard.

Thanks, Robin.

Re: Fleksy and a podcast or chat about how to use

2016-01-14 Thread Krister Ekstrom
I am using the regular fleksy third party keyboard with no problems whatsoever,
I repeat no problems whatsoever and i am totally blind and am using Voiceover.
In fact i have stopped using the stock keyboard and am using Fleksy exclusively.
As you can see, and i’ll probably get flamed for this, Fleksy is not
inaccessible. There’s a learning curve involved, as with all other apps, and if
one is willing to learn then the experience is rewarding.

RE: Fleksy and a podcast or chat about how to use

2016-01-14 Thread Alan Lemly
Wayne,

I agree entirely. I tried getting familiar with the Fleksy Keyboard app and
although I did make progress, I eventually decided that Fleksy VO was easier
and consistently accessible. I got tired of difficulties in returning to the
standard iOS keyboard from the Fleksy keyboard when I ran into situations
that input with the Fleksy keyboard wasn't working right which seemed a bit
too often.

I have never figured out why the Fleksy developers pulled Fleksy VO from the
Apps Store. I can understand why they might not want to support two apps but
Fleksy VO has worked consistently for me in its current iteration up through
iOS 8.3. I expect it still works with iOS 9.2 but I'm in no hurry to upgrade
from iTunes 11.4 which will be required to move up to iOS 9.x. I would think
they could just make Fleksy VO available in the Apps Store and not expend
any resources on it. Many apps in the Apps Store don't seem to be updated
all that frequently. But I suppose the Fleksy developers have their reasons.

When using the regular Fleksy app , I had major issues in getting back
to the regular US keyboard. I know that you double tap on the globe or
emogy icon, but that for whatever reason never worked consistently for
me. I've deleted Fleksy from my phone and hope that someone creates an
equally easy third party keyboard for the blind to use, like Fleksy
but easier to use. I still have the separate Fleksy VO app on my phone
and will never delete it. I can write messages quickly and confidently
in that app. I understand their desire to have everything in one app,
but since the main Fleksy app has been giving blind folk lots of
trouble, I wish they would admit defeat and bring back a separate app
for the blind/low vision. OH well.

I continue to use the Fleksy VO app as well. I could not get consistent,
successful results with the native Fleksy app. I sure wish they’d update the
Fleksy VO app, or make it available as a separate native app.

Re: Fleksy and a podcast or chat about how to use

2016-01-14 Thread Christina C.
I also need a podcast. I tried it for a couple of hours straight, thinking I
could conquer it, but I could not figure it out or get Fleksy to type what I
was trying to type. I could not get the current version to accurately guess
what I was trying to type. I used to love the old stand alone version of Fleksy
and it was amazingly accurate at guessing what I was typing. Now, I find that I
actually had to feel around for the correct letters just like I do with the
native keyboard. :( I also kept getting stuck in emojis and could not figure
out how to get out of emoji and then I could not figure out how to get back to
the native keyboard. At least I can use dictation. I wish I could use Fleksy
when I am in loud environments or I do not have a strong enough signal for
dictation. I’d also like to be able to use Fleksy when I don’t want prying ears
listening to me dictate. :) I would absolutely love a thorough walk through of
fleksy. I feel pretty fluent using my iPhone but the Fleksy app has me totally
baffled and I just can’t figure it out.

What exactly do you have problems with?
Robin you asked if you had to be within the keyboard to swipe and click, the
answer is yes.
Also you wondered if words did have to be repeated when swiping, and the answer
is yes on that one too, although you can set that in the preferences of the
Fleksy app. There, you can also set the size of the keyboard. If you think it’s
easier for you with a big keyboardd. The setting for this is in the main menu
of this app.

Fleksy and a podcast or chat about how to use

Sandy

I know that there are people using the system keyboard version with VO
successfully as it’s been mentioned on podcasts and I think on this list too,
so hopefully someone will assist us in our pitiful plight.

Thanks, robin.

Robin,
Being one of the early adopters of fleksy I find with the latest versions, in
fact, for a long time now, that I cannot use it. this, I know, is down to user
error, but can I work it out? No! so, I would like to join my voice to yours in
a cry for help with any hints tips and tricks and general walk-throughs that
anyone may have two offer.

Fleksy and a podcast or chat about how to use

2016-01-14 Thread Robin Christopherson
Dear listers

I’d like to use Fleksy on my phone to help with typing but I can’t get to grips
with using it as a system keyboard. Am I supposed to stay within the realms of
the keyboard when both typing and swiping and should it be reporting each word
that is entered?

I’d really appreciate someone doing a demo podcast covering the basics and
going as far as the demoer would like to go, or having a Skype call with
someone willing to go through it with me. If anyone is happy to do the latter
please let me know off-list.

Thanks, Robin.
