I only do this when I've had a couple of stabs at the word and haven't got it.
It's usually becauase of my inaccuracy on such occasions.

 Carol,

I find the very same. If I type in the first couple of
letters and then aim as best I can, the result is almost
perfect and, if not, the correct suggestion is there.

Well, I am usually the last to try these alternative
input methods. I got bored with using the built in
dictate for example. For some reason I really wanted to
try this app despite being a bit sceptical. After 30
seconds of using it I have to say instantly I am very
impressed! I am typing like I was when I first got the
iPhone back in 2008 (I had vision then). This input
method is quite accurate, intuitive and enjoyable. I
would love to see this actually implemented directly

I can see myself using this for typing emails, notes, or

This app really is good and I can't believe how quick I

if you do type the wrong word, you can easily cycle
through suggested alternatives by swiping down.
Punctuation is so much easier too.

  Hi Jessica,

It's a program that allows you to type letters without
  being absolutely
precise. After you type what you think the letters of
  a word are, Fleksy
uses what I like to call Word Prediction. What this
  means is that when you
complete the word you are typing, a swipe to the right
  inserts the word
followed by a space character and it is verbalized by
  Fleksy. If the word
is correct, you continue typing the next word. If the
  word is not correct,
you can swipe up and I believe down to hopefully find
  the word you want and
it will be entered. It is important to note that when
  you begin typing,
VoiceOver must be unloaded, as speech is generated by
  Fleksy. I also
downloaded the app and look forward to learning it.

Re: Fleksy is now available in the App Store

2012-07-15 Thread James Mannion
I find it unfortunate that people get caught up in how in theory the
copy and paste or export of the text through the app to something is a
deal breaker for them. In using a number of these kinds of apps where
this is necessary, I find that the idea sounds much worse than it is
at all in reality. The functions that the apps let you export directly
to such as an SMS message really take no time at all, especially after
you are use to exactly what it takes to do it. The copy and paste is
not as difficult as it sounds and people get caught up in the idea
they will have to spend all kinds of time selecting text. You do not.
The app selects the text by double tapping a control or two. People
that say it is of no use if it is not integrated are selling it short.
I think if people that simply have tha mind set would give it an open
minded chance, if they can bring themselves to honestly do that, they
would realize it takes longer to complain about it than to do it!
Typing the message to complain about it, even on their computer takes
longer than to use the app even with copy and paste. I also agree that
you can not compare typing on any mobile device with the efficiency of
a full size keyboard. They are just not the same thing. They were
never intended to be the same thing. If you want that efficiency you
will have to probably cary at least a laptop everywhere with you. Then
you will have the time factor of booting up or getting things hooked
up to type fast and do whatever you are doing.

I prefer just using my BT keyboard for chores requiring typing. Overall, I am
just more comfortable that way. I am not really sure about obtaining a typing

I cannot help responding to your message. Of course the iPhone or any similar

you are a typist for living or not. I don't really see how you can make the
comparison and I do not understand the point you are trying to make. I'm not
even sure how this would relate to this app specifically.

 Hi Jessica,

It's a program that allows you to type letters without being
absolutely precise. After you type what you think the letters of a
word are, Fleksy uses what I like to call Word Prediction. What this
means is that when you complete the word you are typing, a swipe to
the right inserts the word followed by a space character and it is
verbalized by Fleksy. If the word is correct, you continue typing
the next word. If the word is not correct, you can swipe up and I
believe down to hopefully find the word you want and it will be
entered. It is important to note that when you begin typing,
VoiceOver must be unloaded, as speech is generated by Fleksy. I also
downloaded the app and look forward to learning it.

The keyboard is only spoken when you place your finger on the screen and
hold it there to enter characters manually. Using Fleksy the way it is
intended, you simply type the word you want to type, approximating where the
letters are on the screen. Then Fleksy will use that pattern to predict the
word. I've found the majority of the time it is correct. If they suggest a
different word, you simply swipe one finger downwards to hear alternatives.
After you type a word, you swipt right with one finger to hear Fleksy's
suggestion. If correct, you just start typing the next word. If you need to
use the down swipe to hear alternatives, once you find the one you want you
start typing the next word. It means you can type a lot faster as you don't
need to find a letter, listen to VO announce it and then type it. You just
type out the pattern of tht word and it doesn't have to be exact for Fleksy
to recognise it. Within the app itself is a link to the instructions on the
Website and these are very short but extremely clear.

Hope this helps.

Hi Wayne

I never got the hang of predictive text on the iPhone, funny how we all
can/can't do different things? I did think about the price, but thought I
would take the plunge. I can already see how it will make me do things a lot
faster and while I still think it is on the expensive side, I do think I'll

Barbara,
You offer a great description of the power of Fleksy. I thought using
predictive texting was slow on my old Nokia phone with Talks, and then
I discovered how to add words to the dictionary it used. All of a
sudden, predictive texting became more fun and useful for me. I am
still on the fence about Fleksy due to the price and the initial
version. I think I will wait to see what is added/fixed in coming
versions, but it is on my apps to watch list. I've also got an
external Bluetooth keyboard and have just learned how to do auto
correct on the iPhone. Fleksy sounds extremely useful though.

I am typing this with Fleksy, and I have to say I am pretty impressed!

It does take a little time to get the hang of it, but I was typing quickly in
about 10 minutes. End I seem to get faster and faster.

Two things to know, if you are using a blue tooth headset, you can hold your
hand over the screen to have your text read back to you, and be careful not to
go to high on the screen when swipeing or you May engage the notification
center.

Have fun!

Hi all,

I am typing this with Fleksy, and I have to say I am pretty impressed!

It does take a little time to get the hang of it, but I was typing quickly
in about 10 minutes. End I seem to get faster and faster.

Two things to know, if you are using a blue tooth headset, you can hold your
hand over the screen to have your text read back to you, and be careful not
to go to high on the screen when swipeing or you May engage the notification
center.

Have fun!

 Hi Jessica,

It's a program that allows you to type letters without being absolutely
precise. After you type what you think the letters of a word are, Fleksy
uses what I like to call Word Prediction. What this means is that when you
complete the word you are typing, a swipe to the right inserts the word
followed by a space character and it is verbalized by Fleksy. If the word
is correct, you continue typing the next word. If the word is not correct,
you can swipe up and I believe down to hopefully find the word you want and
it will be entered. It is important to note that when you begin typing,
VoiceOver must be unloaded, as speech is generated by Fleksy. I also
downloaded the app and look forward to learning it.

It does take a little time to get the hang of it, but I was typing quickly
in about 10 minutes. End I seem to get faster and faster.

Hi Jessica,

It's a program that allows you to type letters without being
absolutely precise. After you type what you think the letters of
a word are, Fleksy uses what I like to call Word Prediction.
What this means is that when you complete the word you are
typing, a swipe to the right inserts the word followed by a space
character and it is verbalized by Fleksy. If the word is
correct, you continue typing the next word. If the word is not
correct, you can swipe up and I believe down to hopefully find
the word you want and it will be entered. It is important to
note that when you begin typing, VoiceOver must be unloaded, as
speech is generated by Fleksy. I also downloaded the app and
look forward to learning it.

is doing me a favor, shopping etc, don't have the time to spend that kind of
time trying to get it where it belongs to send.

I realize this is an Apple restriction, much as I love my iPhone and use it

Hi Rose,
You can send texts from within this app. All you have to do is add the numbers
you frequently text to your favorites in the settings app. Those numbers show
up in the actions menu when you're done typing. I've been texting my husband
all day with this app and I love it.
Hope this helps,

good will this do me except as a toy to play with.

I bought it mostly to support a company who is doing work that should
benefit us all, and unless there is an easy way to text or e-mail, not that
I use my phone for that much, or to make notes of things, enter calender
events more quickly, for me it is just showing some support for the vendor.

Now if one can actually send the text quickly without having to switch back
and forth, copying, pasting etc, then I would gladly sing its praises.

Disappointed but not surprised that Apple won't let this work the way it
should. It is the only thing I dislike about Vokul, once I get an answer in
the message Ap I have to return to it or, which is usually the case,
struggle with the phone keyboard and get three more responses before I can
manage to send a coherent one back.

If I could get the Refreshabraille to actually work it might be easier but
it is one more think I would have to carry in a purse that now is heavier
 than I would like.

Fleksy is my birthday present to myself, more of a donation to keep the
vendor going than for my personal use I think despite all the great things
it does, no integration means it is likely I won't use it.

RE: Fleksy is now available in the App Store

2012-07-13 Thread Rick Alfaro
Scott,

You can copy and paste but you also have options for email, text, tweet, and
if you configure some favorite phone numbers and or email addresses in
settings, those become choices as well. It's a fantastic app. I've been
using it from the beginning when it was first in beta. I'm no speed demon
on the touch keyboard, but I can honestly say that with this app, I can type
as fast as a sighted person. Those folks that seem to be able to type 60WPM
on the touch KB won't need this but if you are not a speed typist on the
iPhone, this app is fabulous.

I agree with everyone that says it would be much more worthwhile if it were
available as a keyboard choice, but that's the way it is for now with Apple.

I can understand the hesitation to pay $15 for something without having the
chance to try it out. A demo version would be great but that's up to the
developer.

Best,

Rick

Rose,

The copy feature certainly works quite well and easily because it just
automatically copies to your clipboard so, from there, you can go and open
whatever app you want to use for that text. You don't have to do anything
in terms of selecting text which can be a headache.

 Hi all,

I am typing this with Fleksy, and I have to say I am pretty impressed!

It does take a little time to get the hang of it, but I was typing
quickly in about 10 minutes. End I seem to get faster and faster.

Two things to know, if you are using a blue tooth headset, you can
hold your hand over the screen to have your text read back to you, and
be careful not to go to high on the screen when swipeing or you May
 engage the notification center.

 Have fun!

Rose,

The copy feature certainly works quite well and easily because it just
automatically copies to your clipboard so, from there, you can go and open
whatever app you want to use for that text. You don't have to do anything
in terms of selecting text which can be a headache.

That would be a problem for me since generally when I want to be fast
is when texting one friend especially since she usually has a text
message to me before I can answer the first one especially if I am not
home where the Bluetooth keyboard is. If I can't implement it from
text or something what good will this do me except as a toy to play
 with.

I bought it mostly to support a company who is doing work that should
benefit us all, and unless there is an easy way to text or e-mail, not
that I use my phone for that much, or to make notes of things, enter
calender events more quickly, for me it is just showing some support
 for the vendor.

Now if one can actually send the text quickly without having to switch
back and forth, copying, pasting etc, then I would gladly sing its
 praises.

Disappointed but not surprised that Apple won't let this work the way
it should. It is the only thing I dislike about Vokul, once I get an
answer in the message Ap I have to return to it or, which is usually
the case, struggle with the phone keyboard and get three more
responses before I can manage to send a coherent one back.

If I could get the Refreshabraille to actually work it might be easier
but it is one more think I would have to carry in a purse that now is
 heavier than I would like.

Fleksy is my birthday present to myself, more of a donation to keep
the vendor going than for my personal use I think despite all the
great things it does, no integration means it is likely I won't use
 it.

After 30 seconds of using it I have to say instantly I am very

2008 (I had vision then). This input method is quite accurate,
intuitive and enjoyable. I would love to see this actually implemented

I can see myself using this for typing emails, notes, or lengthy
messages. I don't think I would use it for conversations via text
though, hence why I would like to see it added as a keyboard option to
 enable this.

This app really is good and I can't believe how quick I have picked it
up and how few errors I have made. Even if you do type the wrong
word, you can easily cycle through suggested alternatives by swiping
 down.
Punctuation is so much easier too.

If the word is not correct, you can swipe up and I
believe down to hopefully find the word you want and it will be
 entered.
 It
is important to note that when you begin typing, VoiceOver must be
unloaded, as speech is generated by Fleksy. I also downloaded the
app and look forward to learning it.

 Hi Jessica,

It's a program that allows you to type letters without being
absolutely precise. After you type what you think the letters of a
word are, Fleksy uses what I like to call Word Prediction. What
this means is that when you complete the word you are typing, a
swipe to the right inserts the word followed by a space character
and it is verbalized by Fleksy. If the word is correct, you
continue typing the next word. If the word is not correct, you can
swipe up and I believe down to hopefully find the word you want and
it will be entered. It is important to note that when you begin
typing, VoiceOver must be unloaded, as speech is generated by
 Fleksy. I also
downloaded the app and look forward to learning it.

Re: Fleksy is now available in the App Store

2012-07-12 Thread Les Kriegler
Dave, i heard a demo by David Woodbridge, I believe it's on the Applevis site.
It was really impressive. If you know the query keyboard, you'll do fine with
this. Mr. Woodbridge tried to make mistakes in order to demonstrate how to
correct a word, and he had a hard time making errors. That sold me on the
program because I cannot type as fast as I think I will once I master this app.
Like anything else, I'm sure it will take some practice before becoming
proficient.
