Hi, Joseph,

Just going backto an earlier thread to let you know that I found the escape
key equivalent for the Anker ultraslim keyboard I have. It's fn+home key.
Now I can move apps outside folders with my keyboard. Yay. :)

 Hi, Joseph,

I have an Anker ultraslim bluetooth keyboard. It doesn't seem to have a
 true
escape key. It acts as the home key. When I press it during the process
 you
outline below, it immediately exits edit mode and maintains my position in
the folder, effectively cancelling my move process. It may work with other
 keyboards, however.

 Hi, Mary and Johnna,

The VO keys are control and option pressed together.

There reY isn't a way to move apps on the Braille display.

As a further note, I still haven't found a way to move apps outside a

On that specific keyboard, do you know of an equivalent keyboard command
which simulates the Escape key?

If not too much trouble, what are the dimensions of your keyboard? I'm
considering a small keyboard which I can carry with me. The Amazon basics is
actually kinda small itself, about 4 X 10 X .8, but I'm looking to find
something smaller. Smile. I will say that I do like that when my iDevice

 Hi, Mary and Johnna,

The VO keys are control and option pressed together.

There reY isn't a way to move apps on the Braille display.

As a further note, I still haven't found a way to move apps outside a

2014-07-09 Thread Teresa Cochran
The keyboard I have has an aluminum frame and is very light. It's also a
fraction of an inch thick. I'd use it with a case, as the plastic keys look a
bit fragile.

I always use my passcode for my iPod now, since my previous one was stolen.
Luckily, I'd just started using the passcode on that one, too, and it erased
the content after ten attempts to use the passcode.

I haven't discovered an equivalent keystroke for the escape command on this
keyboard.

Thanks,
Teresa

If not too much trouble, what are the dimensions of your keyboard? I'm
considering a small keyboard which I can carry with me. The Amazon basics is
actually kinda small itself, about 4 X 10 X .8, but I'm looking to find
something smaller. Smile. I will say that I do like that when my iDevice
turns off automatically, I need only press a key on the keyboard, and I'm
placed on my home screen without having to go through the lock screen.

 Hi, Joseph,

I have an Anker ultraslim bluetooth keyboard. It doesn't seem to have a true
escape key. It acts as the home key. When I press it during the process you
outline below, it immediately exits edit mode and maintains my position in
the folder, effectively cancelling my move process. It may work with other
 keyboards, however.

 Hi Teresa and others,

I've not read anyone post a solution to your question regarding moving
 apps
out of folders, so try this...
 1. Navigate inside of a folder within one of your home screens and pick an
 app.
(Using the keyboard you use arrow keys to find a folder on a Home screen
then press up and down arrow to open the folder.)
 2. Once the app has been chosen press VO+Shift+letter M. You should get
audio feedback and a message confirming you can now move the app.
 3. Press the Escape key once. You will hear the sound informing you that
you've moved outside a folder. You are now on the main Home screen which
contains the original folder you opened.
 4. Execute the keyboard command which is the equivalent of pressing the
 Home
 button: VO+Letter H.
 5. You will find the app at the bottom of the list of apps.

Please let me know if this works for you or not, and we'll try something
 else.

 Note:
I'm using the Amazon Basics Bluetooth keyboard, and I have found that
 using
this keyboard to execute various iOS related procedures is very buggy. At
times I can execute many commands and procedures quite quickly and easily,
and at other times I cannot get the keyboard to do what I can quickly do
using the touch screen. I'm only mentioning this because someone using a
Bluetooth keyboard to complete some of these tasks might believe he or she
is doing something wrong, but so far it appears to be a very, very buggy
 and
frustrating experience to use a keyboard with an iOS device. Maybe this
frustration is only associated with the Amazon Basics keyboard, but I
 really
don't think so. Hopefully the reader will have a different experience, but
if you are facing difficulties, this buggy behavior might be the reason.
Just trying to save some of you some hassles, but undoubtedly I'm going to
get that's not happening to me!, so all I can say is good for you.

Oh yeah, I'm using an iPod Touch 5th with latest update.

Here's How to Move Apps Into a Folder With a Bluetooth Keyboard

2014-07-02 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, all,
I've done this several times reliably, so I'm going to outline it here, since
there's been some discussion of it in recent threads.

Turn on VO sounds. This will make it easier to detect audio feedback while
moving. Find the app you want to move. Press VO-shift-M. Voiceover will say
moving and the name of the app. Use the arrow keys to move the app. VO will
announce your position and say is editing. Go to the page indicator. It's
easiest to use the up and down arrow keys instead of option-arrows to move from
page to page. I haven't been able to get the second method to work while in
edit mode.

Once you get to a folder, simply press the VO-shift-M command again. VO will
say opening folder and the name of the folder. Now your app should be nside
the folder you've specified.

HtH,
Teresa

Subject: Here's How to Move Apps Into a Folder With a Bluetooth Keyboard

Hi, all,
I've done this several times reliably, so I'm going to outline it here,
since there's been some discussion of it in recent threads.

Turn on VO sounds. This will make it easier to detect audio feedback while
moving. Find the app you want to move. Press VO-shift-M. Voiceover will say
moving and the name of the app. Use the arrow keys to move the app. VO
will announce your position and say is editing. Go to the page indicator.
It's easiest to use the up and down arrow keys instead of option-arrows to
move from page to page. I haven't been able to get the second method to work
while in edit mode.

Once you get to a folder, simply press the VO-shift-M command again. VO will
say opening folder and the name of the folder. Now your app should be
nside the folder you've specified.

HtH,
Teresa

Hi Teresa,

Though your post is useful and well written, I wrote the very same type of
tutorial just a week or two ago. Smile. It seems as though many of us are
not using our time and this forum wisely if we're going to repeatedly post
the same information. So far, it appears many are deleting messages without
even quickly browsing through them for possibly useful information. If this
is in fact what is happening, then the individuals doing this will miss out
on great information as well as cluttering the list with redundant requests.

Am I wrong?

If you're curious, here's what I wrote on the topic of using a Bluetooth
keyboard to move apps between home pages as well as into folders... Smile.

For those interested in using an external Bluetooth keyboard to move apps,
when lucky and all works as it should, here's what I'm doing to move my apps
around:

1. My iDevice (iPod Touch 5th gen) is turned on and my Bluetooth keyboard is
paired.
Note: for whatever reason, my Amazon Basics keyboard takes about 25 seconds
to be recognized by iDevice Bluetooth. (Shrug).

2. I use the touch screen to navigate to Home screen 3 and place focus on
the app I want to move.

do the job.

5. I move my app on top of the folder where I want to place the app, and I
once again execute the following command: VO+Shift+letter M.

6. My iDevice and VoiceOver begin sounding off all kinds of bells and
whistles while they do their thing, and when I no longer hear anything, I
swipe to right a couple of times.

7. I press the Home button once on my iDevice to return screen back to
normal.

8. I swipe over to the bottom of the list of apps, and sure enough the app I
moved is there.

9. I execute the scrub gesture to close the folder, and I'm eventually
informed that the app count has increased, which once again assures me the
app has been moved.

10. All done moving app. Smile.

For those wanting to move an app from Home screen X to Home screen Y without
accidentally creating an unwanted folder, try this...
1. My iDevice (iPod Touch 5th gen) is turned on and my Bluetooth keyboard is
paired.

2. I use the touch screen to navigate to Home screen 3 and place focus on

Hi Joseph,

You are not wrong, but maybe not everybody has time to go through every
single post on this list and given the high traffic and how sometimes
subjects don't always reflect how a thread can move away from the original
subject one can simply miss a post here and there.

Also, and I mean no offense, you just a few days ago posted a link to a
English-French dictionary which Ann Roberts had posted. Ann posted the name
of the app, the developer as well as the link from the French app store as
she is from France. She also correctly pointed out that one only has to
replace the fr in the link with US to view the same app on the US app
store; in short, all the information required was there for anybody to find
this app. However, you posted a message right afterwards with the US app
store link which, in my opinion, also was redundant. I know you probably
don't like to hear that since it appears you take any sort of criticism as a

out of their way to do what you suggested when it appears it is much easier
to post a request essentially asking someone else to do it for the person

Regarding reading messages, I'm not stating one study each message, but I'm

1. My iDevice (iPod Touch 5th gen) is turned on and my Bluetooth keyboard is
paired.

2. I use the touch screen to navigate to Home screen 3 and place focus on
the app I want to move.

3. I press the following command on the keyboard: VO+Shift+letter M. I get
the message informing me that I'm moving X app.

4. I use 3-finger gesture on the touch screen to move from Home screen 3 to
Home screen 1.
Note: sometimes this does not work, so I simply go to bottom of the screen
and swipe up to move from page 3 to page 1, and this does seem to reliably
do the job.

5. Since the keyboard will not allow for placing an app between two apps
like the touch interface allows, I simply move my app on top of the app
where I want to position the app, and I once again execute the following
command: VO+Shift+letter M.

6. I'm told a new folder will be created with X title.

7. I simply press Escape key once on the keyboard to cancel the folder
creation process.

8. I swipe to the right a couple of times then press the Home button once to
return the focus back to normal.

9. I touch the bottom left-hand corner of the screen then swipe to the left
to access the very last app on the current Home screen.

10. If all went well the app will have been moved from Home screen 3 to Home
screen 1 without extraneous folders having been created. (thumbs up)!

Hi, all,
I've done this several times reliably, so I'm going to outline it here,
since there's been some discussion of it in recent threads.

Turn on VO sounds. This will make it easier to detect audio feedback while
moving. Find the app you want to move. Press VO-shift-M. Voiceover will say
moving and the name of the app. Use the arrow keys to move the app. VO

Hi Joseph,
You need to lighten up some and not be so critical. You have to realize that
there are many people on this list and new people coming on the list. Also
there are many of us old farts that don't always understand some of these
things the first time we read them. So if someone post another email
explaining how they do something that might just help new members on the
list or old farts like me that learn very slow. I appreciate all of the
example or info other people give as I might not understand everything on
one person's email but then on another person's email I might understand
there example better. So don't complain when someone else gives there
example how they do something compared to how you do it. Just remember when
you started out learning something new it took a while to understand and
learn all the slang and operating systems. When you get old like me and
learning new things you will know what us old farts are talking about. Also
just for your info I have been learning Jaws, Zoomtext, IOS and other things
as my vision has now been going down as to where I cannot see much on the
screen and had to learn all these programs and operating systems on my own.

So have a good day.

LOL. Noe, you're completely wrong about the other day. I posted the link for
the sake of the list and not just that person. And really, whose going to go

to post a request essentially asking someone else to do it for the person

Regarding reading messages, I'm not stating one study each message, but I'm

I know you probably
don't like to hear that since it appears you take any sort of criticism as a
personal insult, but fair is fair and while what you said about posting he
same information is true, simply posting this information doesn't really
contribute either *smile*.

If you want to cut down on the amount of redundant guides posted to this list,
and more importantly the amount of time spent writing such guides, what about
this? Most of us are aware of and use www.applevis.com. If you have a helpful
guide or tutorial, simply post it to that website. Then, whenever a message
comes up asking how to do something you've already written about, you need only
send along that link. This lets everyone save time by not re-writing the same
guides, plus it makes said guides easier to find for people who might be
searching the internet instead of using this specific list. Plus, AppleVis is
always happy to have more information. smile

Nice try Alex,

but as I have said, this list is not for the purpose of advertising other sites
at the expense of VIPhone. I.E. Rather than encouraging people to post to
AppleVis rather than to this list is simply using this list to promote AppleVis
and that sort of thing, as you already know, is not welcome here.

People are more than welcome to seek info wherever they choose and both
AppleVis and this list are two such places to find such information. The point
here is to give equal time to each of the various information sources, not to
have one over the other.

So please, this is a friendly warning to you. Do not do this again here on this
list. AppleVis is a valuable resource and I would hope that the staff there
view this list equally so.

Have a great day...

So I thank you both and will continue to encourage us all to be aware that

styles of description.

thanks again and do have a great day!

keyboard to move apps between home pages as well as into folders...

3. I press the following command on the keyboard: VO+Shift+letter M. I get
the message informing me that I'm moving X app.

4. I use 3-finger gesture on the touch screen to move from Home screen 3 to
Home screen 1.
Note: sometimes this does not work, so I simply go to bottom of the screen
and swipe up to move from page 3 to page 1, and this does seem to reliably
do the job.

1. My iDevice (iPod Touch 5th gen) is turned on and my Bluetooth keyboard is
paired.

2. I use the touch screen to navigate to Home screen 3 and place focus on
the app I want to move.

3. I press the following command on the keyboard: VO+Shift+letter M. I get

Great, I'm glad this worked for you. I find it very handy. I can use the touch
screen to do it, but it's a bit easier now that I have my new keyboard. :)

Once you get to a folder, simply press the VO-shift-M command again. VO will

List processing tips [was Re: Here's How to Move Apps Into a Folder With a Bluetooth Keyboard]

2014-07-02 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Although there's nothing wrong with providing tips and best practices on
how best to handle mail, I think it's important to point out that there
are over 1,000 members of this list, and these members are using
different email clients, check their mail at different times and use
different practices depending on what's best for them.

I only check my personal email once a day now, and I've always been in
the habit of checking all of my email before I start responding. This
helps cut down on duplicate messages, because once I see a question I
can answer has been answered, I don't need to reply. There are others
though who will respond to an email when they see it, and even though I
might point out how I think my way is more efficient for the list as a
whole, it's more efficient for them to deal with an email when they see
it and not wait until later when they may be distracted.

Things like one line messages, not changing subject lines and hijacking
threads are other things that interfere with the efficient processing of
list email, but it's best to leave the policing of these bad habits to
the moderators. Self appointed moderators tend to generate more list
traffic than they eliminate.

Personally I adjust to the list I join, and I learned a while ago not to
try to change a list and get everyone to adopt my reading habits.

LOL. Noe, you're completely wrong about the other day. I posted the link for

interested. In short, I probably prevented a few posts asking for
clarification on how to delete and enter new country characters for the
iTunes store.

Regarding reading messages, I'm not stating one study each message, but I'm
suggesting maybe people should quickly scan them for information they might
find useful now or in the near future. this simple step is very easily and
quickly done and can cut down on many often unnecessary duplicate posts.

Sorry, but I'm definitely Type A and am endlessly hopeful others will adopt
the same mindset for simple tasks as they relate to this list.

I know you probably
don't like to hear that since it appears you take any sort of criticism as a
personal insult, but fair is fair and while what you said about posting he
same information is true, simply posting this information doesn't really
contribute either *smile*.

Smile.

For those interested in using an external Bluetooth keyboard to move apps,
when lucky and all works as it should, here's what I'm doing to move my apps
around:

1. My iDevice (iPod Touch 5th gen) is turned on and my Bluetooth keyboard is
paired.
Note: for whatever reason, my Amazon Basics keyboard takes about 25 seconds
to be recognized by iDevice

Hi Joseph,

Then why not post your tutorials both to Viphone and Applevis? If your
tutorials are so much better than what's to be found on Applevis, posting
them there would result in adding all your good content to a site where
according to you everything else of poor quality. I do, by the way, not
agree with that as I have read a lot of great reviews, I have seen very
well-written tutorials and listened to extremely well done podcasts. You
might also want to consider registering your own domain and starting a
website where the resources meet your high standards.

If you want to cut down on the amount of redundant guides posted to this
list, and more importantly the amount of time spent writing such guides,
what about this? Most of us are aware of and use www.applevis.com. If you
have a helpful guide or tutorial, simply post it to that website. Then,
whenever a message comes up asking how to do something you've already
written about, you need only send along that link. This lets everyone save
time by not re-writing the same guides, plus it makes said guides easier to
find for people who might be searching the internet instead of using this
specific list. Plus, AppleVis is always happy to have more information.
