Hello Sieghard,

Of course I know that there is a difference between 2-step and 2-factor
authentication. However, the method for adding / removing trusted phone
numbers to / from one’s account is the same regardless of the verification
method; hence the article that I posted for Regina.

2019-08-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Mark,

In your one message you write about 2-factor authentication and in your message
to Reggie you write about 2-step verification. You do know these are two
different animals? They may both belong to the Apple species, but 2-step
verification is an older method which works on older devices and which Apple
does not recommend for newer devices which run I think iOS 10 or later.
I am also not understanding why there is so much complaining about increased
security. I have 2-factor authentication turned on for most services and
websites I use and where it is offered, e.g. my Microsoft accounts, Google,
Dropbox etc. For services which can use an authenticator app I use Microsoft
Authenticator, Google and Apple do sort of their own thing and Roboform, my
password manager, still uses email or text messages to send the code. One
should also note that with Apple you really only have to use 2-factor
authentication on a device or a web browser once, during that initial
verification you can specify that this is a trusted device or browser and
that's that for the future. I think often it's just a matter where people
should spend a bit of time reading up on how exactly it works in order to
understand this better.

Best regards,
Sieghard

It is beyond annoying. It is illogical. The other day I was trying to buy an
app on my iPhone, however, the app store sent a verification code to my iPad.
The problem is that I was fifty miles away from my home and I left the iPad at
home. Does apple think if you have two apple devices you have to carry the two
of them with you all the time? I can’t understand this logic.

Re: How do you8u turn off two factor authentication?

2019-08-02 Thread Jim Fettgather
I accidentally turned on two factor authentication while setting up a New Mac
computer, and have regretted it ever since.
I do not think there is a way to turn it off, I find it highly annoying!

Unfortunately I don’t think you can. I tried to do this a couple of months ago.
It looks to me like, once its on youre stuck with it.

does not give me any choices to turn it off. Does anyone know how to do that?

  I appreciate any help.
