Aah, glad you said this, getting clearer now since buttons have to have simple
generic icons on them for universal recognition. The
burger is that universal, Hah?

I was often impressed with some of our more picturesque traffic signs in this
respect.

It's not an app. It's the name used for the icon to get into settings or
menus or lists. It's called the hamburger icon because it's made up of
three horizontal lines, so it looks like a burger between two buns.

Christopher,
thanks so much for describing the icon's actual appearance to us. Blind
girl moment I couldn't fir the life of me figure out why they'd choose
something circular shaped looking like a burger on a plate. Given the
article of how it was composed this makes a lot more sense. thanks again for
the education (smile).

It's commonly called the hamburger button, so I don't see what the problem is
with someone calling it that. Here's more on the history of the hamburger
button https://blog.placeit.net/history-of-the-hamburger-icon/

I'm also not sure how labeling or naming a picture or an icon is contributing
to anyone's illiteracy. IMHO, knowing how something is commonly referred to is
a good thing. I can't tell you how many times I Googled help for Chrome and was
told to click on the wrench icon.
Knowing that the wrench icon referred to the settings menu was an important
piece of information.

Re: Inaccessible hamburger

2017-04-06 Thread Lois Butterfield
I can't remember the first time I first heard that term to describe the menu
icon in an app. It was years ago though. I figured out that it was the
menu icon and figured it must look like a hamburger. If it doesn't look
like one, it's kind of a mystery as to why the icon is called that. I have
never asked a sighted person what it looks like.

Take care,
Lois

RE: Inaccessible hamburger

2017-04-05 Thread Mike Ulrich
I sure do remember said Mad Cow Disease! I was actually living and working in
England at that time. I as an America and in love with anything that would
contain said Mad Cow, was terrified to anything resembling beef! It broke my
heart to say no to hamburgers. Not that the British make anything resembling a
good old fashioned burger back in the states.

Burger Kings in the UK even had a veg whopper and they were the first to
introduce the chicken whopper, which was actually pretty tasty! I'm talking way
back in, I think it was 02.

Damn, now I'm hungry! Ain't that always how it goes! LOL!

RE: Inaccessible hamburger

2017-04-05 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I've always wondered what this Hamburger thing is when I hear it. Is it used
for only one thing, or could it mean several different things.

Thanks, Keith

I'm not totally sure, but it appears to be for the menu button in the upper
left corner of the app, like when you want to view the menu of categories or
choices in an app.

Inaccessible hamburger

2017-04-05 Thread Bill Holton
I have a website I want to use where the hamburger is inaccessible. The swipe
gesture skipped right over it. Can anyone suggest what they may be doing wrong
so that I can explain it to them? Thanks.
Bill
