Re: Massive Update?

2017-04-12 Thread Dave
my iPhone 6s, is still on 9.3.5, and when i looked at the size of the update,
to 10.3.1, it says, that it is only 1.2gig.

I thought it would be a lot bigger. So not sure, how it works out.

Dave.

Subject: Massive Update?

Hey Guys,
I’m updating my iPad Mini 4 now from iOS 10.2.1 to 10.3. I’m doing it through
iTunes, and it’s telling me that it is downloading 2.35 gigabytes! Can this be
right for a (what I thought) was not a major update! Does it download the whole
OS every time an update comes out?
Thanks for any info.

RE: Massive Update?

2017-04-11 Thread Alan Lemly
Evan,

iOS 10.3 was a major update implementing a new file system and requiring an
upgrade to iTunes 12.6..0.1 for compatibility. I don't think the whole OS is
downloaded for each upgrade. For example, iOS 10.3.1 which came out about a
week after 10.3 was a much smaller download.

It is a large update, partly because 10.3 completely changes the file system.

It went pretty smoothly over Wifi on the three devices I updated.

I started to do it through iTunes and it was going to take several hours…

Good luck,

Richard
