Hi Christopher,

I use KeePass Touch on my iPhone SE 2020. I paid the 99 cents to get sync
privileges and keep my KeePass database file in a Dropbox folder. It works
great on both Windows and iOS and I have a total investment cost of 99 cents.

I really like KeePass Touch because it's very easy to search for specific
entries and copying of the password value is very easy too.

It looks like there are multiple apps for IOS that support KeePass. Which one
are you using Alan? Also, I assume to use this across multiple platforms,
you’ll need to access a common password file, maybe on a file sharing service
like Google Drive, is this true?

You could use Excel to keep your passwords but I'll caution you that Excel's

Shirley,

I'm not going to pretend to understand all the features offered by the various
password manager apps and programs. I will say that I don't like any software
doing things for me automatically. I use my KeePass password manager by
remembering its master password and whenever I go to a site or app that
requires a password, I sign into KeePass, look up the applicable entry, and
copy and paste its password to the requesting site from KeePass. I also make
sure if the site is new and requires registration that I set up an entry for it
in my KeePass database.

Is it true that when you use one of these password managers, you don't have to
remember your password? If that is correct, once you go to a website that asks
for your password and you don't know what it is, how do you enter a new one?
Then when you go back to that website again, will it give you a new password?
All websites don't seem to use these password managers so far as I know.
I'm confused about how to use these password managers. I used it on instacart
but I never logged out since I don't know what my password is and am afraid I
won't be able to get another one or don't know how to get one using the manager.

RE: Accessible electronic password managers being used?

2020-08-16 Thread Alan Lemly
Shirley,

It sounds as if you need to use a browser that allows it to save your password
whenever you have to sign into a website. I prefer to manage my passwords with
KeePass which allows me to quickly search its database by entry name and to
quickly copy whatever I'm storing in KeePass for pasting into the website or
app requesting the info. I store much more than passwords in KeePass and
include entries for account data such as account numbers and routing codes. It
will generate passwords for you automatically but you have to save that entry
and password in your KeePass database and fetch it when you need it. If it has
the ability to automatically sign you into a site, I don't use that feature and
am not aware of it.

So once your passwords are in the cloud and you want to log in on a particular
site, how do you go about finding the particular password to log in which has
been stored in the cloud? Or do. you select forgot password and just have it
generate another one for you each time? I just don't understand how you
retrieve your password from the cloud for a particular site. I don't want to

You can accomplish something similar with KeePass by storing it’s database on a

The only options listed within my KeePass Touch settings for the database
storage location was Dropbox and FTP. I've always been a Dropbox user since
they were the first cloud service I used and they seemed the most widely

RE: Accessible electronic password managers being used?

2020-08-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And with Roboform you can either choose a particular login (it's done through
the icon in the system tray) or if you are already on a particular website you
can just use the keyboard shortcut Alt + Z and Roboform will fill in the user
name and password based on the web address. If, for example, I have more than
one login stored for a particular site like in the case of our mobile provider
where I have both mi wife's login credentials and my own in Roboform, I am
presented with those two choices to choose from.
Roboform is quite accessible, it's not perfect but then most thing sare not.

You bring up the Bit Warden app and your accounts will show up in a list. You
can also search for a particular account. When you tap on the account, you’ll
be able to see your password. I’m just starting to play with Bit Warden myself,
but I assume it also has features to copy a password to the clipboard so you
can paste it into a password field.

The fact that the passwords are in the cloud is really transparent to the user.
It just means that you don’t need to copy a password file from device to device.

I agree that vertical navigation in the rotor makes moving through an Excel
sheet on the iPhone much easier. I assume Excel will prompt you for the
password if you attempt to open a protected spreadsheet with it.

I much prefer accessing my KeePass passwords with the KeePass touch app on my
iPhone. I can do a quick search by name of what I need, swipe to the password
field, and double tap to copy it for quick pasting to wherever it is needed.

Marty,

You could use Excel to keep your passwords but I'll caution you that Excel's
passwords aren't that secure. Also, I don't think Navigating an Excel
spreadsheet on a mobile device would be nearly as easy as with an app designed
to manage passwords. If either of these issues aren't a problem for you, Excel
is much better than managing them manually.

If you keep them in the cloud, how do you find the one you want to use and do
you create those yourself?

Re: KeePass [was "RE: Accessible electronic password managers being used?"]

2020-08-16 Thread Alan Lemly

You could use Excel to keep your passwords but I'll caution you that Excel's
passwords aren't that secure. Also, I don't think Navigating an Excel
spreadsheet on a mobile device would be nearly as easy as with an app designed
to manage passwords. If either of these issues aren't a problem for you, Excel
is much better than managing them manually.

Password managers are a lot more than just places where passwords are stored,
most good ones can also store longer notes, they can generate random passwords
and best of all they can auto-fill user name and password information on web
pages and log you in. Not only are your passwords protected by a master
password, but all data is also encrypted which would not be the case if you
just put them into an Excel file.

I have been using lastpass for a while now, and although it definitely
has some accessibility problems, I have managed to work around those.
I was using keypass, but I could only use it on windows, the IOS and
MAC stuff is either broken or not available, so I switched to lastpass
instead so I could use it on all my devices.
