The solution was that I didn't have enough space on my iPhone.  Apparently, 
2GB is not enough to download all but the smallest books.  So, I dumped a 
couple videos and , Voila.  I had space for one book.  Time for an iPHone 
5S.

Now, that is interesting.  You mean it takes two gig of space to extract a 
book?  I just did an experiment.  I downloaded a book both onto my hard drive, 
and onto my phone, extracting both.  The extracted version on my hard drive was 
around 106 meg,  The extracted version on my phone took up about the same 
space, once it was extracted.  These books seem to take up about 10 or 11 meg 
per hour of reading time.  If it takes two gig of free space to do the 
extracting, then deletes what it doesn't need, that is amazing!  I never would 
have guessed that.

I am curious:  Was it somebody from your library, or the support staff at the 
library of congress who solved it for you, or did you figure it out yourself?  
I am glad it works now.  Thanks for letting us know the solution.

I too would be really surprised if it took 2G of free space to 
uncompress a BARD book, which generally is around 100M in size. In fact, 
I've never had a problem downloading and playing a BARD book to my 
iPhone 4S, and I just checked, and I only have 850M of free space. I 
suspect there's some fragmentation going on that gets masked when you 
free up some additional space.

The ap store says something like version 4.3 and higher.  I was trying the Game 
of Thrones books and Playboy.  Why don't you suggest one title you downloaded 
successfully for me to try.

I assume you're adding a book to your wish list and then downloading it 
to your phone through the BARD Mobile app itself, e.g. you're not using 
iTunes, DropBox or any other intermediate system or application. If so, 
this should work. I've downloaded dozens of books to my iPhone through 
the BARD Mobile app, and I've never seen the problem you've described. 
Have you waited until the book is completely downloaded? You'll get a 
dialog letting you know the download is complete and then you can start 
playing it by going into the book shelf tab. You need to keep the BARD 
Mobile app in the foreground while you're waiting for the download to 
finish.

I just downloaded and started reading the November playboy without difficulty. 
A novel I am currently reading is The Man from Nowhere. I have just over four 
GB on my device.

Hopefully, someone will have a better answer soon or you may have to call 
tomorrow. Let us know, because someone Shirley will have this problem again.

I did keep the iPhone app in the foreground.  As near as I can tell, the files 
never completely downloaded.  Shortly before a given file would have finished, 
when the progress bar was at over 90%, a dialog box popped say Ong that the 
file was not extractrmed and giving me the option to retry or cancel.  Retry 
would restart a fruitless download.  Cancel would remove the title from the 
wish list entirely.

Unfortunately you didn't include the message thread you're replying to, 
so sorry if I'm repeating what someone else already suggested or said.


When I download a book to my iPhone, I usually get the message popping 
up right after I hit 85% complete stating the book was downloaded. I 
never see it get to 90% on my iPhone.


In an earlier message, did you say you had 2G free? I'd think this would 
be more than enough. Is the book you're downloading particularly large? 
Have you tried this with multiple books?


I think you said you already tried restarting your phone and removing 
and reinstalling the BARD Mobile app. Is this true? When you start a 
download, have you gone through the App Switcher and removed all of the 
other apps? Maybe you don't have enough working memory when the BARD 
Mobile app goes to extract the files from the ZIP file. Did you mention 
what model of iPhone you're using? I seem to recall it was a 4S. If so, 
the older the model the more important it would be to make sure you have 
enough memory freed up before downloading a book.


Finally, I've never seen this issue on my 4S, so you may just need to 
contact your local Talking book program to see if they can help.

Just tried downloading book one of Game of Thrones having first made certain 
that all other apps were closed.  I even left VO off and used my vision to 
monitor the progress bar.  No joy.  I have no idea what to do next.

1.  Tried different books and mags.
2.  Uninstalled/reinstalled the app.
3.  Retried download after making sure all other apps were closed.

In case nobody is able to suggest something to fix this, you might want to 
write to

bardmobilesupp...@loc.gov
to see what they say.  What you describe in the following message makes me 
think you have an unusual problem.  Usually, when a book gets to about 85 
per cent (I gather that it actually is downloading and being processed 
faster than the download meter is running), it usually gives a chime sound, 
then says the download is complete with an okay button. You say it gives an 
error message before it ever gets to this point.  I thought you were meaning 
that the downloading and processing completed successfully, but it then gave 
an error message saying  you are not authorized to play this book when you 
try to play it, which is another problem that has cropped up occasionally. 
If you write to bardmobile support, and they can figure it out, let us know 
the resolution.

I did keep the iPhone app in the foreground.  As near as I can tell, the 
files never completely downloaded.  Shortly before a given file would have 
finished, when the progress bar was at over 90%, a dialog box popped say Ong 
that the file was not extractrmed and giving me the option to retry or 
cancel.  Retry would restart a fruitless download.  Cancel would remove the 
title from the wish list entirely.

My phone is an iPhone 4. Cathe error message I get is that the file couldn't be 
extracted.  I ended up downloading the books to a thumb drive for my NLS 
player.

The address was bardmobilesupp...@loc.gov There's no dot, dot, dot at 
the end. It's LOC for Library of congress, followed by a dot followed by 
the gov for government domain. Check it out character by character and 
you'll see it's a correct and complete email address.

I doubt it'll help, but after reinstalling the BARD Mobile app, shutdown 
the phone with a long press of the lock button and restart your iPhone. 
It's just another thing to try.

 Would try closing the app out of the app list and restarting it.

If that doesn't work, try a different book or magazine.

I did have this happen once or twice in the beginning, but not since.

At most, you might have to delete the app and start from scratch.  Hope not,
and wouldn't think so, but that has worked for other apps with problems.

digital talking book player a computer with a web connection.  No reference
at all to IOS.  What's the deal?
