Hi, if you want to use an external battery, you might like this model: New Trent IMP70D 7000 MAH battery. You can find more information at this link: http://www.atguys.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19&products_id=95 I think it is also available at amazon store. I hope that helps. Thank you! I was hoping for a more specific suggestion. There are so many battery cases and so many add ong battery cases that it's difficult to know which one is good. RE: Battery for 4S
I did reply to your initial post that apart from implementing some of these power saving tricks, your two options are either an external battery or a battery case. As for battery cases, most of the ones I have seen are basically the same, the phone slides in and the battery is usually behind the phone. These do add to the thickness of the phone more than the size and you just have to do your research as to which one you want. With people on this list living all over the world it's hard to make a specific recommendation and then maybe the product isn't available. Amazon, the Apple Store (online or retail stores), Best Buy, Radio Shack, any of these places will have battery packs/cases. In a way Amazon and the Apple Store online have the advantage that the products have ratings and you can read user reviews. I am not sure which iPhone you have, but you want a battery pack that has at least the same capacity or more than the capacity of your iPhone's battery. Most battery cases seem to be in the 1,400 to 2,100 MA capacity and while the ones with a larger capacity may be slightly thicker I would opt for one that has at least 1,900 or 2,000 MA which means you should get one full charge and change out of it. Below are the battery specs for the iPhone 4, 4S and 5, in addition to Millie Amps batteries usually also have a WH or WHR rating, that stands for Watt Hours and while I am not a physisist, you can compare that number for the iPhone against that of the battery case if it is given. iPhone 4: 1,400 MA, 4.8 WHr iPhone 4S: 1,432 MA, 5.3 WHr iPhone 5: 1,445 MA, 5.45 WHr Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. Re: Battery for 4S
Hi, it's my understanding that if an app checks for updates, this is not a push, but a poll. As in, it's polling for data to see updates. Push, on the other hand is the other way around. This is when a server in the cloud pushes information down to the iPhone to make it react. For example, if you use Voxer, and someone sends you a voice message, the Voxer servers push that information to you. Otherwise, you wouldn't get the message until the app asked for it by checking the cloud. So, while your information below is mostly correct, I really feel that push and poll have been mixed up. So, if an app uses push notifications, it actually minimizes battery usage, but if it polls for data, meaning, it actively checks for updates, then yes, that will drain your battery more quickly. Check out the following for an explanation between push and poll. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3585336/push-vs-pull-notification-on-iphone Hope this helps. -- Raul A. I was looking for these 2 items, gps checks or I think Kelly means, don't have your apps constantly checking for mor e info. LIke the braking news, mail, tweets etc! I have these apps but I don't have them checking as often or not at all! I use my ipod for that and the phone when I go off, I simplely check the apps when I am out! I also turn off my phone if I am going to be in a meeting, that saves battery! I wondering if some folks don't know they can turn off their phones by holding the lock button on the top of the phone for about six seconds and swiping to power off! You do the same thing to turn it back on! I had to tell two of my friends this recently after they received their iphones. I guess the people at the stores don't think to let them know about this! So if your not going to use your phone for a while you can turn it off! Heather -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. RE: Battery for 4S
Hi Rose, What Kelly referred to in his post is based on battery saving tips from one of the Today in iOS Podcasts. They are all valid tips and which one you adopt is up to you. I agree that I own my iPhone because I want an accessible smartphone which does what I want it to do. Of course what I want it to do maybe very different from what you or somebody else wants to do. I for example don't use Facebook or Twitter hence I don't need to turn on these features or install apps related to them. However, I do get business email on it and therefore prefer to have my email set to Push instead of checking it every half hour or hour even though that would save me some battery life. Somebody else who lives on Facebook and Twitter may use multiple apps for these and have push notifications and location based services enabled but maybe he or she gets 2 emails a day and therefore set up email to only check manually. I think my point is clear, somebody may turn off location services completely and turn off wireless, bluetooth and all that stuff and if that's OK with them then it's their choice. The point Rob from Today in iOS and Kelly made is that here is a list of things which save battery life, now you decide what you do with it. BlueTooth 4.0, which the 4s has, uses very little power. And, if you want your phone to use hardly any battery; just turn it off and leave it in a drawer. Last for weeks that way. The previous writer is clearly confused. Re: Battery for 4S
Dear Sieghard, One nice accessible overview of battery saving was provided in episode 243 of the Today in iOS podcast. rob lists 13 actions someone can take to drastically reduce battery drain on their iPhone. His list is given at the 10 minute 10 second mark in the show. Many apps constantly check remote servers, also called the cloud, for new and updated data. On the iPhone, this is called push. All this checking zaps battery power. If folks can update only when they use an app, such as e-mail or contacts, battery life can be extended. This can be set in Settings Mail, Contacts, Calendars Fetch New Data. Many apps also constantly update including Facebook, Twitter, and stock-reporting apps to name a few. As I said earlier, people should go to the notification center, tap each app name, and decide which ones need to constantly update. The fewer that do, the greater battery life. When I go to Settings Privacy Location Services, I have found a list of all the apps that uses the iPhone’s location feature. Yes, apps like Sendero, Navigon, and Around Me must use location services to function. Other apps like Twitter and Facebook use it only to location stamp your posts. Yes, we need some location service use for certain apps. Some apps don’t really need to use it. These apps are the stealth battery hogs as they constantly keep track of your location but add little value to the end user most of the time. Hi Kelly, I am curious about 2 things you mention here and which I definitely don't find: You say: also, a lot of apps check for frequent updates, turn off the frequent updates by apps in the notification center. also, go into privacy and turn off GPS checks. RE: Battery for 4S
If you don't want an external battery which you can use to charge your phone, a battery case would be your only option. Just look on the Apple Store or Amazon website, check at a Best Buy or Google "iPhone 4 battery case" and you will find a lot of choices. If you check them out on Amazon you can take advantage of user reviews and ratings, but I would look for one that has at least a capacity of 6,000 or 8,00 Milliamps, the more the better, of course the more Milliamps also means it's going to be bulkier so it's a trade-of.
