Re: Getting a document off my iPhone and on to my laptop
I use Word for iOS, but that's mainly because I want to be able to work on documents both on my phone and my laptop. Also, if you create a document on the phone, you do have the option of saving it on the phone after which you can send it to the cloud. I suppose this is for occasions when you might not have a data connection. Word for iOS is surprisingly feature-rich, though I can't speak to how easy all these features are to use with VO. But for basic document creation, I find Word quite usable on the phone. Given that the iOS native Pages app will read and send documents in Word format, why are people obviously so reluctant to use the Pages app? I use it but I have no need for professional documents. Yes, if you want to create documents on your phone you would need Word which as an Office 365 subscriber you have access to and all its features. I rarely use Word even on the PC since my work requires daily use of Excel, but I don't use either on my iPhone since I find it is just too inefficient to create and work with documents on my phone. Everybody says the PC is declining, but if you look at CES this year there are PC's and laptops everywhere and as much as Apple and some other outfits may want people to think an iPhone, iPad or other tablet is a PC replacement I think that in an office environment where you work at a desk a desktop computer is still the way to go and it will be for some time to come. If any tablet is a computer replacement it's a Microsoft Surface and not an iPad. I think Apple is once again missing the boat by sticking to iOS on the iPad and by not introducing touchscreens to their still expensive line of Mac computers. Yes, anything you change on either device will sync up to the cloud and back to any other device. Actually, on your phone you are accessing the cloud version unless you Favorite the document in which case a local copy is downloaded to your phone. What if that document is a book in Read2go app. I am not sure if that can be done, as in move from iphone to computer. I actually have some videos on an old ipod. Is it possible to move them to computer from where I can send them to other devices? Thanks for any suggestion. RE: Getting a document off my iPhone and on to my laptop
Hi Kimber, Do you not have OneDrive set up on your laptop? Anything in OneDrive should automatically download to your OneDrive folder on your laptop. I actually have reassigned my Documents, Music and Pictures folders to be in my c:\users\sieghard\OneDrive folder since I have multiple computers and want all my documents, music and pictures to be on all of them. This way anything I save into my Documents folder or one of the subfolders there will upload to OneDrive and consequently download to any other computer where I have my OneDrive set up. Anyhow, as for emailing, you can do this in one of two ways: 1. Go to your OneDrive app, find the file and use the Share feature, the native Mail app should be listed and when selected it should open with the file attached. 2. Start a new message to yourself in the Mail app on your phone, then when you are in the message body, turn the rotor once counter-clockwise and you should be on Edit. Now flick up or down with one finger until you get to "Add attachment". Double tap and you can select your OneDrive, find the file and attach it. I created a document in Word on my phone and I have copies both on the device and saved to Microsoft One Drive. I thought I could email the document to myself and open it on my laptop for further revising, but when I tap the "share" button, I get the message that I should "get outlook" to send the attachment. I don't want Outlook on the phone because I am happy with the native mail app. But I don't see another way to get the document over to my laptop. The second part of the question, if there is a way of accessing the OneDrive copy on the laptop, I don't know how to do that either. So can someone help me out? This really should be more intuitive, which explains why I cannot yet use my iOS devices for serious writing. Thanks in advance for any help.
