Hi, You ar doing the gestures correctly. I don’t get why you are not hearing
tones or anything. Do you hear a tone when putting your finger on the bottom of
the screen? Maybe try swiping up a little bit faster? The most comfusing part
is why isn’t the phone vibrating. Try turning sounds on in the rotor and have
the store employees make sure vibrations are turned on.

slow slide up until I hear the first tone would take me to the home screen, and
if I continued the slide up until I hear the second tone it would take me to
the app switcher.

Unfortunately, when I did my slow slide up I did not hear any tones to know
when to lift my finger to go to the home screen, or how to go to the app
switcher. Either the store was too noisy and I missed hearing the tones, or
the tones were turned off. One of the store employees told me that I should
feel a vibration when I slide up to the point of lifting my finger, but I felt
no vibration either. What is going on? Where did I go wrong? I admit that it

What do you suggest?

Good for you and your getting it so fast. All I can say is play with
it if this Xs is what you want. I know someone that has one so might
play with it a bit more but I can't see myself buying anytime soon.

RE: How to return to the home screen on iPhone XS?

2018-09-22 Thread Cris Ali
Yes, I had a sighted friend with me and we turned voiceover on before I started
to play. As I said, either the tone was too low for me to notice in a noisy
environment, or it was not working. What I can’t get is why the vibration was
not noticeable either, if it is supposed to vibrate.

I suggest you ask an Apple employee to make sure it’s working correctly, was
Voiceover even on?
When the iPhone X first came out last year I also went to an Apple Store at
some point to check it out and while it took me a while to get the gesture the
Apple employee seemed knowledgeable about it and the main thing is that if you
do it slow it probably won’t work. Also, you do have to make sure you start at
the very bottom. What I did was that I put my finger on the screen near the
bottom and waited for a beat and that was my problem, you just have to do it,
place your finger and swipe up. Of course I assume the app switcher won’t work
unless the phone is already unlocked first.

Subject: How to return to the home screen on iPhone XS?

Hello folks,
Yesterday I had the chance to drop by the Apple Store and play a little with
the new iPhones, XS and max. I thought I would find it easy to use, since many
of you spoke about the replacement gestures to the home key. I assumed that a
slow slide up until I hear the first tone would take me to the home screen, and
if I continued the slide up until I hear the second tone it would take me to
the app switcher.
I admit that it
was a very discouraging experience for me.

What do you suggest?

Cheers,

Cris

You can always bring your headset if you want to hear better, but the
vibrations should be there.
If your headset is still one with 3.5mm plug just ask the Apple employee to get
you an adapter, also make sure you ask if they have an employee who is familiar
with Voiceover, most stores have at least one person who will be.

Re: How to return to the home screen on iPhone XS?

2018-09-22 Thread Maria Reyes
Hi, You ar doing the gestures correctly. I don’t get why you are not hearing
tones or anything. Do you hear a tone when putting your finger on the bottom of
the screen? Maybe try swiping up a little bit faster? The most comfusing part
is why isn’t the phone vibrating. Try turning sounds on in the rotor and have
the store employees make sure vibrations are turned on.
