I only have a 14, and I'm using Samantha. And I'm not having the problem.

I found this most interesting. I think it started in iOS 16, but maybe
not. If I move the switch on the side of the phone, either way VoiceOver
says "unmuted." It does this on n XS, a 12 Pro Max and a 14 Pro Max.
However, even though VO says "unmuted" for both positions, the phone
sounds are definitely muted when the switched is moved to the back of
the phone, and restored when moved to the front. Anyone else ever notice
this?

Steve,
That is most interesting and you should probably investigate why this is
happening just for you. It seems unlikely that all three of the devices you
mentioned have hardware issues so it must be something with their settings. As
others have reported, VoiceOver speaks muted and unmuted correctly on my iPhone
13 Mini when the switch is activated or deactivated.

My 13 pro says muted and unmuted like always. I do not find any settings
related to the mute switch, but Apple Accessibility would be able to figure
this one out.

2023-03-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As davy said, it makes no difference which version of iOS you run as this was
not an issue related to iOS but something Apple fixed in the background/on
their servers. With the App Store this has happened before, I can't remember
exactly what and when it was, quite a few years ago, but just as with Siri
there can sometimes be issues which Apple can fix and which have no connection
to the version of iOS you run.

OK, update to my last post.

After reading Jenny’s post, I used the mute hardware switch when the phone was
both locked and unlocked.

1.
When the phone is unlocked, Voiceover performs as expected.

2.
However, when the phone is locked, regardless of the state of the switch when
the phone was unlocked, VoiceOver says, “Unmuted.”

Interesting, to say the least.

Hi,

Mine is strange. When my phone is unlocked, it will announce muted or unmuted

it was on before I locked the phone. So, if my phone was on muted, the phone
will say muted even when I flick the switch up. When I unlock it again, all is

I found this most interesting. I think it started in iOS 16, but maybe not. If
I move the switch on the side of the phone, either way VoiceOver says
"unmuted." It does this on n XS, a 12 Pro Max and a 14 Pro Max.
However, even though VO says "unmuted" for both positions, the phone sounds are
definitely muted when the switched is moved to the back of the phone, and
restored when moved to the front. Anyone else ever notice this?

OK, update to my last post.

After reading Jenny’s post, I used the mute hardware switch when the phone was
both locked and unlocked.

1.
When the phone is unlocked, Voiceover performs as expected.

2.
However, when the phone is locked, regardless of the state of the switch when
the phone was unlocked, VoiceOver says, “Unmuted.”

Interesting, to say the least.

Hi,

Mine is strange. When my phone is unlocked, it will announce muted or unmuted
as it should. When I lock it and press the side switch, then it says whatever
it was on before I locked the phone. So, if my phone was on muted, the phone
will say muted even when I flick the switch up. When I unlock it again, all is
well.

OK, update to my last post.

After reading Jenny’s post, I used the mute hardware switch when the phone

1.
When the phone is unlocked, Voiceover performs as expected.

2.
However, when the phone is locked, regardless of the state of the switch
when the phone was unlocked, VoiceOver says, “Unmuted.”

Interesting, to say the least.

Hi,

Mine is strange. When my phone is unlocked, it will announce muted or
unmuted as it should. When I lock it and press the side switch, then it says
whatever it was on before I locked the phone. So, if my phone was on muted,
the phone will say muted even when I flick the switch up. When I unlock it
again, all is well.

Re: Mute Switch Always Says "Unmuted"

2023-03-01 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi,

Mine is strange. When my phone is unlocked, it will announce muted or unmuted
as it should. When I lock it and press the side switch, then it says whatever
it was on before I locked the phone. So, if my phone was on muted, the phone
will say muted even when I flick the switch up. When I unlock it again, all is
well.

RE: Mute Switch Always Says "Unmuted"

2023-02-28 Thread Katrina Anderson
Hi All,

So weird. I was preparing to write this message, because I heard "unmuted"
when sliding the switch back or forward on my 14 Pro with the latest iOS 16
version. VO is Samantha...not enhanced. I then saw Sieghard's suggestion to
clear apps and reboot, so I did that; no change. I started typing this
message, and for whatever reason chose to check the switch again. VO spoke
"muted" "unmuted" appropriately. Things seemed good, but before sending this
message, I checked again, and VO says "unmuted" no matter the position. LOL

It isn't a huge problem for me, but it should be checked out, and hopefully
fixed, so I will notify Apple Accessibility.

Katrina

when I move the mute switch to either position.

Anyone else ever notice
this?

I don't either. If I flip my mute switch one way, I hear muted, if I
flip it back, I hear unmuted. I've got a 13 pro max updated to the
latest version.

Steve,
That is most interesting and you should probably investigate why this is
happening just for you. It seems unlikely that all three of the devices you
mentioned have hardware issues so it must be something with their settings. As
others have reported, VoiceOver speaks muted and unmuted correctly on my iPhone
13 Mini when the switch is activated or deactivated.

Steve, it is not just you. I had the same thing happened last week. It turned
out and I don’t know if it’s related, but voiceover eventually stop working all
together and that create another problems for me. But I can confirm your
comment about moving that switch in hearing I muted all of the time. I have no
idea why that stopped happening. I want up having to reset my settings and that
message for now at least has gone away.

RE: Mute Switch Always Says "Unmuted"

2023-02-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I have an iPhone 13 Pro and the mute switch correctly says "Muted" if moved to
the back and "unmuted" if moved to the front.
Maybe close all apps and reboot your phone to see if that resolves it.

Hi,
On my iPhone 14 Pro, VoiceOver always says "unmuted" whichever way the mute
switch is pushed as well. I am using Nathan Enhanced.

Steve,
That is most interesting and you should probably investigate why this is
happening just for you.
