That makes sense about touch ID and facial ID. It will be interesting to see
what ever happens down the road.

Hi,

Let me explain about the new touch ID that apple rumors are talking about. The
rumors say the new touch ID will be that you can touch anywhere on the screen
with one finger and it will read your finger print to open the iPhone. Another
words there is not going to be a home button to put your finger on like it the
past on the iPhones.

Now the second comment I want to make about worrying about someone holding the
iPhone up to your face to open it. If you are going to worry about that then
here is another hypothetical for you to consider as some of you are saying
touch ID is safer. What if someone hits you on the head and takes your finger
and puts it on the screen of your iPhone and opens it? So as you can see you
can play this hypothetical game all day long worrying about someone opening
your iPhone and which one is more safer face ID or Touch ID.

Mr. Ed

Just to add to Brad’s excellent post below, the attention aware setting makes
sure you’re looking into the camera before your phone is unlocked. As I said in
my post, this keeps someone from waving your phone in front of your face, such
as when you’re sleeping, to get your phone unlocked.

The Attention awareness setting can be found in one of two places:

1. Settings < FaceID and Passcode > Require Attention for FaceID, or:

2. Settings > Accessibility > FaceID & Attention.

In the second setting, under Accessibility, you will find additional Attention
Awareness and Haptic Alert settings that are very useful to blind and vision
impaired FaceID users..

You can leave the attention aware setting turned on for face ID and then you
won't need to worry about the situation you describe below where someone may
wave your phone in front of your face without you knowing about it. With this
setting enabled, I'm pretty sure face ID is more secure then touch ID.

I would wonder if touch ID is more secure than facial ID, in that no one could
grab a phone, hold it up to someone's face and get it open. That probably is
not likely to happen, but in the case of touch ID, it would not.

I currently have facial ID, but of the two, think touch is probably more

Hey but Ed,

You for get the one where if you were to unlock someones phone using their
finger print while they are out to it,

Then changing any settings is going to cause you trouble when you need the pin
code to say change the pin code,
Or face id / touch id settings,
Update the phone needs the pin code,
Eraising the phone back to factory defaults
Hey it needs the pin code and your apple id password
If you have find my iPhone enabled.

So really taking someones phone is only worth using data straight away ro
making a phone call.

I currently have facial ID, but of the two, think touch is probably more
secure.

Just to add to Brad’s excellent post below, the attention aware setting makes
sure you’re looking into the camera before your phone is unlocked. As I said in
my post, this keeps someone from waving your phone in front of your face, such
as when you’re sleeping, to get your phone unlocked.

RE: Question About Touch ID

What is the Attention Aware Setting, and where would it be found? Thanks.

I currently have facial ID, but of the two, think touch is probably more
secure.

I hope to never again have an iPhone with TouchID.

Re: Question About Touch ID

2021-03-10 Thread Brad Snyder
No system is completely secure.
There have been reports of law enforcement using a dead person’s finger to
unlock an iPhone with TouchID, while I have not heard such reports related to
FaceID.
All things considered, I am completely comfortable and confident using the
FaceID system.

RE: Question About Touch ID

2021-03-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I assume this is a rhetorical question, but I wear a mask during this pandemic
in order to protect those people around me. I wouldn’t want someone to get
COVID-19 because I’ve contracted it without having any symptoms. I also want to
help businesses and the economy. People will feel safer going out if they see
people around them wearing masks.

It's all about managing risk, so I’ll wear a mask where it makes sense. I’ll
take it off though when I need to, such as when I’m eating or drinking, using
face ID or talking to someone who wants to read my lips. Of course, in those
cases, I’ll practice social distancing, make sure there’s good ventilation,
wash my hands and take other common sense precautions.

RE: Question About Touch ID

2021-03-10 Thread Christopher Chaltain
True, entering a PIN is always an option, but using touch ID is still more
convenient than entering a PIN, and at least in my opinion, more convenient
than face ID.

Touch id was a lot nicer most of the time. Yes face id is not as bad as I
thought, but I still find myself needing a code.

I haven’t yet worn a mask, other than to a hellowyn party years ago.

Why do you guys need to wear a mask?

How can a deaf person read lips if you wear the mask?

Not to mention, Face ID doesn't work all that great in this time when we are
all wearing masks. Yes, I know that upcoming iOS 14.5 is going to make it
possible to use face ID with a mask on as long as you also have an Apple Watch
on at the same time. Nice job a full year after the lockdowns began. This is
why I bought an iPhone SE instead of the iPhone 12 this year specifically
because I wanted the convenience of touch ID so that I can open my phone easier
while being out and about as well as use Apple Pay

Yeah each to their own,

I don’t mind if it’s face or touch,

My 11 pro max is face id,
My se 2020 is touch,
Just like my ipad mini 5 is touch and my pro is fface id.

But either way some may like touch better or some people may have physical

I hope to never again have an iPhone with TouchID.

Re: Question About Touch ID

2021-03-09 Thread Brad Snyder
To each his own.
I’ll take FaceID over TouchID anytime, even if it means pulling down my mask,
or entering my code sometimes.
I hope to never again have an iPhone with TouchID.

RE: Question About Touch ID

2021-03-09 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I have face ID on my iPhone 11, and I’m also hoping future iPhones will have
touch ID. I just find touch ID to be more convenient. There are just times I
want to unlock my phone without having to put it in front of my face.

RE: Question About Touch ID

2021-03-09 Thread Christopher Chaltain
They got rid of it because they said face ID was more secure and they wanted to
dump the finger print sensor. The finger print sensor gets in the way of having
a nice smooth slab of glass. If it comes back, it'll probably be as an in
screen finger print sensor.

What was the reason for removing it to begin with or does anyone know? I really
like it. I don’t have to enter my password as much with touch ID.

Re: Question About Touch ID

2021-03-09 Thread Richard Turner
There is a rumor, and remember it is a rumor, that the iPhone 13 might have
touch ID and/or face ID.
Time will tell.

Richard

"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon
airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep
space, that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was
young."
"Why, what did she tell you?"
"I don't know, I didn't listen."
