RE: Venmo Questions

2020-10-31 Thread sherrywells1157
I had lunch with my niece today who knew how to enable the pin for Venmo. I
think it is under navigation drawer / settings / pin. But I would advise
against doing this as the screen to enter your pin upon opening the app is not
very accessible. You have to double tap on the enter pin line. Split tapping
does not work. When running your finger over the keyboard voice over only
sporadically announces the number. I was able to sign in but with a great deal
of difficulty. I will be turning enable pin off assuming I can get back in
later.

I too was surprised to see transactions from various people. As Christopher
mentioned, no amounts are given. Still, I have no interest in seeing these.
There is probably a way to turn them off but that is a low priority right now.

If I can figure it out, I’ll try enabling a password or touch id rather than a
pin. Then maybe I’ll be ready to pay someone some money!

I've never sent money with Venmo but I've spent some time messing with the app
since Sherry's post. Some of my problems with it are I'm unable to turn on
Touch ID and passcode. The app takes you through entering a 4-digit PIN and
verifying it and after completion, the Touch ID and passcode setting is still
turned off. I've written Venmo Support about this and we'll see what happens.
When attempting to authorize and remember a device using Venmo, VoiceOver isn't
clear at identifying which devices if any have been so remembered. Also, I have
to sign into the app each time I want to use it which is insane in this day and
age and no doubt relates to my Touch ID setting difficulty. The app will work
but I find things such as this a little too clunky for my taste. And why anyone
would let their financial interactions be reported by such an app is beyond me.
I expect one can turn off this setting but I'm surprised by what was displayed
by my few contacts using Venmo who have apparently left some sort of public
setting turned on.

Hi,

I send money with it regularly and have had no issues with it. Perhaps it isn't
the most intuitive but it is certainly usable. Even if it doesn't finish
syncing contacts if you tap on request or send money there's an edit field into
which you can type someone's name or number and it'll find it within its users.
Then there are edit fields for amount and purpose and then you can choose
between request or pay. It's been so long since i set it up that I can't recall
if I could add info in settings or if I had to do it when executing my first
payment.

You can also set whether your transactions I.E. recipients involved can be
viewed by other friends who are users by the public or completely private and
can also be set globally or on a transaction by transaction basis.

It never asks me for any sort of password because i set it to remember my
device I use most often but if that is turned off it can employ a pass code and
Face ID when available and managing trusted devices is very easily done all
within the settings area of the app itself which you access after tapping on
the "navigation drawer."

I discovered it when hiring someone to provide me a service earlier in the year
and when I asked what payment methods she accepted she said venmo. She departed
and I quickly made a B-line for the search engine of my choosing to find out
what she was speaking about as I'd no knowledge of it and didn't want to admit
such. She's only maybe 9 years younger than I am but I suddenly felt very old
and last century (laughs). But since it was her favorite though she accepted
others I learned how to use it quickly and she was never the wiser but I did
learn something new in 2020 so that's something.

It's interesting to me that Venmo is a subsidiary of Pay Pal but the two are
still kept as separate entities. It reminded me of Procter and Gamble making
competing brands of soaps and the like and I giggled.

I find Venmo quite a bit easier and more preferable to Cash App but as with
many things opinions and perceptions therein and one's mileage might vary.

I hope this helps.

Take good care.

You’ll have to enter your banking information before you can use Venmo. It’ll
definitely save this information. You can set it up to both pay out of this
bank account as well as receive money to this bank account, in case someone
wants to pay you for something. I only have it set up with one account, but I
assume you could configure it to use multiple accounts and probably choose
between them.

Hello Robin,

Thanks for this info. It took me a while to figure out that navigation drawer
is what you need to click to get to settings. What I want is to have Venmo
prompt me for a pin or password when I open the app. I found the devices
setting & mine shows my iphone & says I won’t be prompted for a password if I
use this device. I can find no way to change this. I created a password when
signing up but can find no way to get Venmo to use it.

I don’t mind typing in a name when I want to send someone money. Is there a
way to add individuals to a list within Venmo? I’m not on Facebook & adding
contacts didn’t work.

Lastly, I have not used Venmo yet. Will it prompt me for my bank info when I
try to pay someone? I’m guessing it will save this info so I don’t have to
enter it every time. I don’t want to do this until I make sure the app is
password protected.

Thanks,

RE: Venmo Questions

2020-10-31 Thread sherrywells1157

Thanks,

Sherry Wells

Robin

RE: Venmo Questions

2020-10-29 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Sherry,

I don't use Venmo but have it on my iPhone because it seems to be the
electronic payment app of choice for the younger generations. I signed into it
today and can confirm I experienced the same thing you did with the loading of
contacts. When it didn't do this process quickly, I skipped the step. I didn't
find the app to be totally accessible either and if I had to pay someone
electronically on a regular basis and they didn't use an iDevice which supports
payments with the Messages app, I would use the Square Cash app instead.

I know this is of little help but I wanted to let you know I experienced the
same issues with Venmo that you did.

I do use Venmo. I set it up a while ago, and I don’t recall having these
problems. I’m not prompted for a password when I send someone some money. Sorry
I’m not much help, but maybe knowing someone is using it will be of some help.
