My advice is a bit different. I encourage people to think about how
 they'll
use their iPhone. They should get as much capacity as they can, depending
 on
what they can afford and how they'll use their iPhone. I have a 16G
 iPhone,
and I've never wished I had a larger iPhone. I tend to use a lot of cloud
resources though, and I have an unlimited data plan.

I'd be more inclined to encourage people to get the largest capacity
 iPhone
they could afford if the additional storage wasn't so expensive.
I know SSD's are faster than SD cards, but I don't find that the speeds of
SD cards makes much difference when accessing data, like music, books or
documents, and SD memory costs a fraction of what Apple charges for
 additional capacity.

Re: adding more memmory to the IPhone?

2013-03-12 Thread David Chittenden
This is a more complicated answer. The basic answer is it depends.

Apple uses a sandbox system for apps which requires apps to be self-contained.
Some apps can access external data. A good example of this is Drop Box. Drop
Box is basically a cloud service. Users have so many GB of storage space in
their Drop Box account. With Drop Box, one can keep the data in the account and
access it using certain apps on the iOS device. If the app is written for it,
files can be shared between apps.

Apple's built-in music player will not play music unless it has been installed
through iTunes or through Apple's music store (there is a way around this
restriction, but one must jailbreak one's iOS device).

A few wifi drives are now available on the market. A few apps have been written
to access these drives. Using the apps as one's interface, it becomes possible
to work with data on the external device. I believe the current cost for these
devices is higher than the cost to purchase an iOS device with equivalent
built-in memory.

Re: adding more memmory to the IPhone?

2013-03-11 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Troy, as others have said, you're stuck with the storage you got at purchase
time unless you investigate some external solutions. However, one way to make
that storage go further is to spend the $25 on iTunes Match. This allows you to
have access in the cloud to all of the music you've purchased from the iTunes
Store, plus an additional 25000 songs you've obtained elsewhere. You can
download some music for those times when you don't have an Internet connection.
And if you ever get multiple Apple devices, it really makes managing your music
across devices a breeze.

RE: adding more memmory to the IPhone?

2013-03-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi,

You should know because of what you pay for it. Here in North America an
iPod Touch Fifth Gen is $199 for a 16 Gig, $299 for a 32 Gig and $399 for a
64 Gig model. In any case, you can always go to Settings, General and About
and find out the capacity of your device as it is displayed there.

In any case, if I buy a device like an iPod, iPad or iPhone, knowing what I
buy would be one of my priorities and I would assume most people would find
out and plan ahead based on how much storage they require. My music, for
example, takes up about 27 Gig and at this point I still prefer to have all
my music on the device rather than use iCloud which may not be accessible
to me if I am travelling in another country. I also know I need at least 2
or 3 Gigs for my apps and I want to have lots of space for downloading
Audible books. Lastly I would need space for pictures if I am travelling and
want somebody to take pictures for me (or take some myself). If I add all
that up I know I need at least 35 or 40 Gig which means for me a 32 Gig
model would not allow me to put all my music on it and still have enough
space. A 64 Gig gives me more than I need, but for a $100 price difference
it is worth it for me to have that extra space.

RE: adding more memmory to the IPhone?

2013-03-10 Thread Kevin Barry
I believe there is no fifth gen iPod with 16gb. You're looking at the
4th gen model which Apple still sells.

At 05:50 AM 3/10/2013, you wrote:

You have to buy a new iPhone. I tell folks to always buy the largest size hard
drive you can afford even if you don't think you'll ever need it. To put it
simply, it's better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.
That should about some it up for you rather nicely. The iPhone has a solid

Hi,

There are some unconventional ways of doing this; for example, you can
get external drives that connect wirelessly to your phone or if you
wanted to use SD cards, you could buy the iPad camera connection kit
which adds the ability to read various cards to your iPhone.

Note that I haven't tried iether of the above approaches so I can't
really vouch for how good the wireless drives or connection kit is.

Sure, it's a bit of a messy solution, but you do have options if you
run out of storage.

Cheers,
Ben.

Re: adding more memmory to the IPhone?

2013-03-09 Thread Victor Hugo Gallegos
Hello, you cannot add memory to the iPhone, whatever you bought, is what you
get, if you want more memory you'll have to buy another phone.

Re: adding more memmory to the IPhone?

2013-03-09 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose

Cheers,
Ben.
