Re: Digit-Eyes and Canon MP620 printer

2012-05-01 Thread Christina
Yes, the label number refers to the size of labels and not if it's designed for
laser or inkjet. Usually labels and printer paper will state if it's designed
for laser, inkjet, or both. Once I made the mistake of purchasing labels for
laser printers. I had the correct size/number but when I used it in my inkjet
printer, the ink just smudged right off. Everything was printed in the correct
spaces but the ink just would not adhere to the labels. Lesson learned, I now
make sure I purchase multi-purpose paper and labels since I use both laser and
inkjet. :)

I believe it's very possible that there is a setting with your inkjet that is
causing your printer to print off of the labels. Sometimes I have to play a
little bit with the settings to make sure scaling or paper type is correct.
Once, I had my paper set to print borderless which changed the placing of the
printed text. Best of luck to you.

HTH,
Christina C

Re: Digit-Eyes and Canon MP620 printer

2012-05-01 Thread Nancy M
Actually, the first digit in Avery labels is significant and tells you the
type of printer the label is designed for. a leading digit 5 means it is
designed for laser printing; a leading digit '8' means it is designed for
inkjet and a 4 or 6 is a combo label.

There is a list on our website of common ones
http://www.digit-eyes.com/cgi-bin/digiteyes.fcgi?action=labelInfo

Rick, I looked at the labels you sent -- your printer is scaling them and
printing the entire sheet smaller than it should. Eileen had the same
problem and she found some settings that had to be changed -- they said
'fit to page' or 'fit to printable area' or something like that and she had
to turn them off and (if I remember right) set sizing to none

Re: Digit-Eyes and Canon MP620 printer

2012-05-01 Thread Eric Caron
Hello everyone,

So I received my 6570 labels. I did a test print with my Canon MP620
printer. Results are ok but not amazing. The code prints completely on the
label so it is usable. It still is not centered so I still have some work to
do to figure out my printer.
I need to practice a bit more with these labels before I can report
back.

Thank you Nancy for the tip about the Avery numbering system. I was given some
labels that start with the number 5 so now I know those should be used on a
laser printer. Meanwhile my 6570 labels can be used on either Ink or laser.

It is hard to improve my printer set up skills as I cannot see the results and
my sighted helpers have limited patience when it comes to printer issues.

Still it is working well over all.

For anyone following this small thread, I am still unsuccessful

Christina's suggestion of printing from preview and the results were

One big tip for new users like me. Once you get the labels printed
they are much easier to use if the label is almost completely clear of

Eric,

Thanks for the report. It sounds like at least you are having some success
with the new labels. I should be getting mine tomorrow and can't wait to
give them a try as I had no success whatsoever with the Office Depot Avery
knockoffs I was using. Not even my wife who is sighted was able to get a
scan so I'm hoping for at least some success with these Avery labels. I'll
also report back once I've tried them.

saving the PDF. I then tried printing from Preview but again my labels are off
by a quarter of a inch. I'm probably just going to give up and instead use

 label things worked much better!

I am looking forward to trying the close to square, slightly larger, 1 and
 1/4 by 1 and 3/4 quarter inch labels I ordered. I'll certainly send a
 message with a update.

 Best.

 Hi Christina,

Thank you for this suggestion. Can you tell me how to open the PDF
in Preview? I only know how to follow the steps on the Digit-Eyes site and
open the PDF when I press the link. I'm entering unknown territory here.

I never thought to question the browser or the PDF area. I just assumed
it was the printer or something in my printer settings.

Once I have sighted help I could try other browsers on the mac or my
virtual machine. However opening in Preview sounds like it would be the
 easiest solution.

So, how do I have the page open in Preview?

 Good luck,

If anyone out there is using a Canon MP 620 printer with Digit-Eyes
I'd love to find out if you had any difficulty getting this printer to print
labels correctly. I'll be checking in with Cannon and trying a different
package of labels soon, but in the meantime I can't seem to get the Avery
8160 labels to work with this printer. they print just a bit too high. As
this seems to be a pretty common printer I'm wondering if anyone has all
ready solved this problem. Also if it is working well for you perhaps you
could let me know which labels you are using successfully with this printer?

I've been very impressed with the Digit-Eyes web site and the
available support. But, I have this one last step to conquer, before
exploring all the possibilities of this app.

Did you order them from Amazon? I ask because here is what it says on
Amazon's site. I also hope to be able to use them on my inkjet printer as
well as my laser.

Hi Rick,
Yes, AVery 6570 are the labels I ordered. On the site it didn't say laser
or ink jet, but on the order receipt it says laser. Hopefully the package
will clearly state if it can be used in both styles of printer. I was
beginning to wonder if maybe the number like 6570 only applied to size and
we had to specify laser or Ink jet.

Thanksf for your note. I'll remain optimistic.

 Eric,

Not sure if you ordered the same labels I did. I ordered them from
amazon since I have Amazon Prime. They are the Avery 6570 labels and
it states that they are for both laser and inkjet printers. Just FYI.

Subject: Re: Digit-Eyes and Canon MP620 printer

 Hello list,

For anyone following this small thread, I am still unsuccessful
printing Digit-Eyes labels using my Canon MP620 printer. I tried
Christina's suggestion of printing from preview and the results were
the same. Using the labels that are 30 per page they print about 1
quarter of a Inch too high. Using my work HP laser printer with
different Avery labels, but also 30 per page, they print fine.

I ordered more labels that are a better shape for Digit-Eyes and
though I meant to get labels I could use on both Ink Jet and Laser
printers, the receipt shows they are Laser labels. Thus, I'm going to
 use my work printer.

One big tip for new users like me. Once you get the labels printed
they are much easier to use if the label is almost completely clear of
extra white space. My secretary used a paper cutter to cut my labels
into strips of square Digit-Eyes labels, rather then the long
rectangular shape. This made all the difference for me concerning
recognition time with Digit-Eyes. I went from beginners frustration
to efficient fast user just with that change. The long labels left
too much guess work for me to center the camera. Though I thought I
was centered I rarely was. Once I had a square label things worked much
better!

I am looking forward to trying the close to square, slightly larger,
 1 and
 1/4 by 1 and 3/4 quarter inch labels I ordered. I'll certainly send a
 message with a update.

 Best.
