Re: Face time info needed
D, J, funny you should say that because that is the very point I have been trying to make. Her sister is not yet in her contact list. Her sister uses a Wi Fi only iPad, in other words, there is no associated phone number. Her sister's phone is not a smart phone. So, are you saying that I can use that number in the contact list to connect with the iPad? Don Roberts On 7/21/2014 4:06 PM, DJ wrote: Donald, It's very simple. RE: Face time info needed
Hi Don, No, she has to use her sisters email address and the sister has to make sure that Facetime is enabled on her iPad under settings. By default the email addressed she uses for her Apple Id is used for Facetime on an iPad or iPod Touch, but she can also add other email addresses in which case she can be contacted via any of these addresses. I believe you said your wife wants to initiate the Facetime call so she will have to create a contact for her sister. In this case all that would be needed is her name and email address. Then your wife can either use SIRI to initiate the Facetime call or she can go to the Contacts app, tap on her sisters name and then tap on :Facetime or Facetime Audio. Facetime Audio is only available if both are running iOS 7, in iOS 6 only Facetime video calls were supported, but I think you said they wanted to do a regular Facetime call which means including video. Re: Face time info needed
Thanks to you, Sieghard, and also to the others who responded. I used to think my communications skills were at least adequate; but I was frustrated that I couldn't seem to get across the idea that since my sister in law doesn't have a smart phone, I did not know what to use in lieu of the phone number. Again, thanks to all. Re: Face time info needed
You can make a FaceTime call by either telling siri to face time you're sister or you can go to phone. Next go to contacts. Next go to the contact you want to FaceTime. After that choose FaceTime and then the call should start. On Jul 21, 2014, at 11:12 AM, Donald L. Re: Face time info needed
One minor correction. As the call is being initiated from an iPod Touch, you'll want the Contacts app - there is no Phone app. Other than that, you are correct - choose the contact, double tap FaceTime (or FaceTime Audio), and off you go, assuming you've saved the same email address or phone number that Apple has. Thanks Alex, I understand that there is no phone in either device, and therefore one cannot specify a phone number in the contact info. So, what does one specify since there is no phone number? You can still specify a phone number, for use with FaceTime or iMessages. You just need to do so in the Contacts app, rather than a section of the Phone app. On Jul 21, 2014, at 3:05 PM, Donald L. Re: Face time info needed
Donald, If you launch Facetime and work through the dialogues you will know exactly what is being asked of you as there is not much room for misunderstanding. Its much harder to understand if you're asking questions without having the device in front of you. 1. Launch Facetime. 2. If signing in for the first time you will be asked to enter your iTunes user name and password. 3. After signing in you can use Siri to say something like Facetime Mike. You will be informed that a Facetime call will begin, and you will hear the ringing of the person's phone. Note: You will want to hold the iDevice about 1.5 feet from your face when talking to someone. The video quality is ok, but the sound quality is great. 4. If you would rather use your contacts to make the phone call, after you use your user name and password to launch Facetime in step #2 above, the contacts app will appear, so double-tap on a contact to show their details. On this screen there will be a Facetime option so double-tap on it to begin the call. I just completed this process on an iPod Touch 5th gen, so all should work for you. Smile.
