Re: How to delete large chunks of text?

2022-01-19 Thread Dave Clement
Hi,

You can do this using the Voiceover "text select" feature. Try this when you
are in your edit field:

1.Position the edit cursor at the beginning of the text you want to delete.

2.Turn the rotor to "text select".
Note that you must first add Text Select to your rotor in
Settings/Accessibility/Voiceover/Rotor

3.Flick down to choose the amount of text you want to select, character, word,
line, etc. For your purpose, choose "word".

4.Now flick right to select that amount of text. In your case, a word.

5.Continue to flick right to select all the words you want to delete.
Note that you need to select (highlight) text to do a bulk delete.

6.If needed, flick left to unselect a word.

7.Once all the desired text is selected, move the rotor away from the text
select option.

9.Tap the delete key on the on-screen keyboard.

10.If you made a mistake, you can always use the "undo" option in the "edit"
rotor option to bring back the text you just deleted.

This sounds complicated but it actually goes quite easily once you are used to
the process.

I hope this helps.

can also do a triple-tap.

Sieghard,
I will also try the double tap and hold. I definitely miss 3 d touch. I used
it for a lot. Even the app switcher could be activated by a harder press on
the left edge of the phone. Granted, you now only have to swipe up to the
second haptic so that is good now too.

Sometimes you have to delete the first few letters one by one, but usually once

This, by the way, has nothing to do with 3D Touch, that was when you pressed
harder on a button to generate different responses and it's been replaced by
double tap and hold for the most part.
Another approach is to turn the rotor to Text Selection, then swipe down and
make sure it's set to words and then, if you are at the end of a block of text,
swipe right to left to select the text you want to delete word by word, when
you are done tap delete. If you want to delete all that is there use Select All

  Hello Ms. Malmquist et al,

If you want to delete the entire composition there are two procedures you
can use, both imply that you have “Edit” and “Text Selection” deployed in
your Rotor settings.

To remove the entire current composition do this:

  - Deploy the Rotor with the 2-finger turn.
  - Continue this “turning” gesture until you come to the “Edit” action.
  - Using the single finger swipe, locate and double tap the “Select All”
option.
  - Now, tapping the “Delete” button will remove everything.

To select and delete only portions of a composition do this:

  - Position cursor where you want to start the text selection.
  - Deploy the Rotor once again, locating the “Select Text” option.
  - Once you’ve located the “Select Text” option do not double tap here,
this will likely result in selectig the “Character” option!

  - Now using the single finger swipe down (or up), select whether you want
character, word, line or page selection option.
  - Now, using the single finger swipe (left selects elements back) or right
(selects elements forward) until all of the text you want to delete is
selected.
  - Now, tapping the “Delete” keyboard will rid you of those selected
elements.

A note here concerning the “Page” option. Depending on where you have
positioned the cursor, swiping left will select all text before that
position and swiping right will select all text beyond the cursor.

RE: How to delete large chunks of text?

2022-01-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Anna,

I find that there are situations where this doesn't work or at least not until
you start deleting a few characters first one by one. I just ran across this
when I had to enter my Microsoft Id password in the Settings app, I had pasted
in something and it seemed wrong because instead of 16 characters Voiceover
indicated it was 17 so I wanted to delete all and doing a double tap and hold
did nothing and I had to delete all characters one by one. In text messages I
sometimes have to delete a couple of characters one by one and then if I do
double tap and hold it will work.

Hi Kay,

You can also touch the Delete key, then do a double-tap and hold. Just like
with 3D Touch, text will continue to be deleted as long as you hold your finger
on the screen.

RE: How to delete large chunks of text?

2022-01-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sometimes you have to delete the first few letters one by one, but usually once
you do then doing a double tap and hold on the delete button will work.
If you want to delete all that is there use Select All
and then delete.
