RE: Looktel apps do not work accurately for me
Hate to state the obvious, but you do know the bill reader uses the camera on the back, right, not the front facing camera? -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Grant Hardy Sent: Friday, June 08, 2012 1:35 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Looktel apps do not work accurately for me Hello, I've posted in the past about the Looktel money recognizer being unable to read any of the currency I throw at it. As of yet I've never, ever had a bill be spoken. It doesn't matter if I put it on a table, hold it in front of the camera, move it around, expose different parts of the currency, and so on. The object recognizer also doesn't work particularly accurately and often gives unexpected results. A good example is that I've actually put, well, bills, into the database, and these are always mixed up. You don't suppose I could have a subtle problem with my camera, do you? We don't notice anything when taking photos, but maybe there's a subtle scratch on the camera or something? Do you have any ideas why the Looktel apps would be behaving so oddly? Re: Looktel apps do not work accurately for me
Hi Esther and everyone -- Esther, you have an amazing memory! Yep, I sure do have an iPhone 4S, and have posted about this before. Everything should be pretty much golden. I'm not using a case; I've tried all manner of distances and angles and have even had a sighted person do the same; and other pictures seem to take fine. My iPhone has been restored in iTunes a few times since I initially tried the Looktel apps, but I'll remove them and reinstall them later today and will post if there are any better results - I can't imagine there will be, though. Basically, it's totally bizarre. Re: Looktel apps do not work accurately for me
HI Grant and Kimber, Grant, I know you've posted about this before -- that you were not able to get Looktel Money Reader working even with sighted help -- but I'm frankly baffled. As I recall, you now have an iPhone 4S, right? I've tried this app out with an iPhone 4 on US, Australian, and Canadian dollars, and Euros and pounds, and it has picked up all of them. I don't have the newer Canadian bills to test, but I know that other users, including some like Sieghard who had problems using the first international update with these bills, use the current version successfully. Apart from having your camera lens blocked by the hole in your case, or a dirty lens, the only thing I can think of is having an incompletely downloaded app, which you might try deleting and downloading again. You do know, don't you, that some of the older iPhone 4 cases that can fit the iPhone 4S may have holes for the camera lens that aren't large enough to let all the light through? You can still take pictures, it's just that you're not using the full area of the camera lens, which will cut down on the amount of light and quality of the images. If this is the case, you'll find that the app works when your iPhone is taken out of a problematic case. With the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S, the Looktel money reader app should even try to turn on the flash if there is insufficient light, but with an iPhone 3GS you need to check the light level before you use the app. I usually check light level first with the Light Detector app anyway. Try holding the bills flat in your left hand with the iPhone on top of the stack, and lifting the iPhone directly up about 6 inches from your palm. (If you're left handed, use your right hand for the bills, and lift the iPhone with your left hand.) Re: Looktel apps do not work accurately for me
Grant if you have not dropped the devs a note I would encourage you to do so. There must surely be something going on because if taking pictures works well then there seems to be little reason the app cannot identify money. Have you tried removing and reinstalling the app? I have no idea if this would help, but may be worth trying. For me the identification happens very quickly and I have used the app with an iPhone 4 and 4S. This is a curious issue. Re: Looktel apps do not work accurately for me
Hi Grant, I just tried Looktel Money Reader, which I hadn't used for a while. It used to recognize bills very quickly, but that doesn't appear to be the case any more for me. I have an iPHone 4S. What I found works reliably is to hold the camera over the bill, about six inches away, and hold it still for 5 or 6 seconds, possibly a little longer. I hope this works for you. Interesting - I wonder why everybody's experiences differ so much? There must be some other factor of which we're not aware. RE: Looktel apps do not work accurately for me
I have not really tried the recognizer app, but, I have always had success with the money app ever since the app was released just after I got my iPhone 4. I always get accurate readings on bills. It is the only thing using the camera I can seem to get to work unless you count the pictures I have taken of the clip of my Otterbox or my fingers, LOL. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Kimber Gardner Sent: Friday, June 08, 2012 10:51 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Looktel apps do not work accurately for me I haven't had a lot of luck with the looktel money reader either. My iPhone is less than a month old so I'm sure it's not the camera. I've had more success with eyenote, which I believe is an app from the treasury dept. As for the other looktel app I don't have it and so can't comment. Re: Looktel apps do not work accurately for me
I haven't had a lot of luck with the looktel money reader either. My iPhone is less than a month old so I'm sure it's not the camera. I've had more success with eyenote, which I believe is an app from the treasury dept. As for the other looktel app I don't have it and so can't comment.
