Well the fact that it could be worth nothing in a few years is the
risk I will take by doing this. I am ok with that, It's one of the
things that happens with investing.

I have done well with Apple stock, since I bought it in either 2017 or 2018,
and the thing that really helped is that it split four to one. So I have four
times as many shares as I once had, and if it keeps climbing like it is now, it
will soon reach $204, which is what I paid for that original 50.

The original iPhone cost $499 or $599 back in 2007 depending on configuration,
so even if you paid $599 and you sold it for about $40,000 after 16 years that
would mean an interest rate of 30% compounded annually.

And just to add this, if you buy one of these first VR headsets for $3,500 they
may also very well be worth $100 in 15 years.

Buying one as an investment might not be a bad idea, just make sure you never
even crack the seal of the box. Considering a few original iPhones in that
condition sold for between $40,000 and $65,000 after what, 16 years or so, not
bad.
The original iPhone cost $499 or $599 back in 2007 depending on configuration,
so even if you paid $599 and you sold it for about $40,000 after 16 years that
would mean an interest rate of 30% compounded annually.
Of course nobody could have predicted that and I just read that if you had
bought $3,000 worth of Apple stock in January of 2007 when Steve Jobs announced
the iPhone, that would be worth over $139,000 today, also a pretty good
investment and at a little over 27% interest compounded annually not far behind
what you could have made if you still had an unopened original iPhone.

Joshua, I think you are under some sort of misconception here. This is not a
headset which plays back audio or maybe it also does this although I have a
feeling it does not because I seem to remember them talking about using it
together with Airpods or something like that. This is capable of generating a
virtual reality environment as the name implies and that is why I earlier
commented regarding its accessibility features that it may not be so easy to
make this fully accessible as it has an extreme visual focus.

My problems with the vision pro headset are 2 things. First, the cost, I have
bought way to many bluetooth headsets in my life. I have them all, bose nc700,
sony xm5, and apple airpod max to name a few of the big ones. And ones from
AKG, Anker, and JBL to name some of the smaller ones. I'd never pay $3500 for
any headset, I don't care how good it is. Now, if I did have $3500, I'd pay
that in a second for a beautiful hd28 martin guitar. Next, is the battery
life. The vision pro only has 2 hours of battery life. That is way to few
hours to even watch a long movie, or do a whole lot. You might watch one full
movie with the headset on, but nothing else. I'll stick with my iPhone 13 pro
max.

There are a lot of things people spend money on that I would never spend money
on, and I'm sure I spend money on things others wouldn't. I just don't tend to
project my financial circumstances and interest in certain products on others.
There's simply too much for me to worry about than how much money others are
spending on something.

It does seem like the Vision Pro has some challenges, like cost, weight and
battery life, and it isn't clear now how it would benefit the blind, but isn't
that true of a lot of new technology? I still remember a lot of what was said

it really good on the whole but 3500 is very expensive though.

I'll stick with my iPhone 13 pro
max.

Actually, I am only halfway through the presentation, as yet. It's a
bit long and, to be honest, the keynote presentation format has gotten a bit
tiresome.

I mean, Apple announces new stickers as though they have come up with a
cure for cancer.

And you know what? Several of the app features they present as ground
breaking can already be done on Android.

Not that I am bitter but I think the reason list traffic is slow, this
year, is because there was nothing truly exciting, at least, not from my
perspective. I have yet to watch the Vision Pro presentation but with a price
tag at over $3000, it might as well not exist.

Wow, I do sound a bit bitter, eh? (smile).

RE: What is happen to the Viphone list?

2023-06-09 Thread Christopher Chaltain
For my part, unless there's more to it than I'm seeing right now, I wouldn't
shell out this much dough for this headset. If someone has the resources and
the interest then I say great and more power to them!

Actually, I am only halfway through the presentation, as yet. It's a

tiresome.

I mean, Apple announces new stickers as though they have come up with a

And you know what? Several of the app features they present as ground
breaking can already be done on Android.

Not that I am bitter but I think the reason list traffic is slow, this

If the Vision Pro headset in fact includes Voiceover and is fully accessible, I
would say it's certainly appropriate for this list. However, since it won't be
available for probably close to a year and I don't recall Apple saying anything
about accessibility during the keynote it is definitely premature. From how
they describe it I have my doubts regarding full accessibility because this
sounds like it will be a very visually focused experience where you have to
look at things to make the headset react and I am not sure how Apple will make
that fully accessible. Of course they may have already figured it out so who
knows, but no point in speculating and as others pointed out, at $3,500 US
which means probably at least $4,500 or $4,800 Canadian this is probably not
something the majority of blind people will buy.

You are a funny man, my friend (big smile).

(smile).

I had no time to listen to Apple's keynote this morning nor this
evening so far. I surely thought I would find a lot of messages discussing what
was said tonight, but to my surprise there was not a single message.
I really thought I would see a lot of comments as used to be the case
about iOS 17 and find a request from Mark for all of our mailing addresses so
he can place preorders for everybody for the $3,500 US virtual reality headset
which Apple apparently announced for early 2024 

Re: What is happen to the Viphone list?

2023-06-07 Thread Kelly Pierce
Apple is a different company than what it was 10 years ago or so.
Today, there are eight or nine times the number of active iPhone users
compared to back then. Apple then was establishing itself as a
company that created technology that no one else did, which included
accessibility. Apple was also establishing the iPhone itself as an
indispensable device. The company also had fewer devices to discuss
so there was time in the keynote for a 15-minute film on Apple’s
amazing accessibility. Now Apple has established itself as the
accessibility king in the tech world and the trendsetter that everyone
else follows. For example, last year’s iPhone 14 announcement had
minimal detail on the new emergency satellite communication
functionality, the first cell phone to offer this novel feature. With
more than a billion daily iPhone users, there’s a lot of different
kinds of people and needs to address and delight.

Re: What is happen to the Viphone list?

2023-06-06 Thread Kelly Pierce
I listened live to Leo LA Porte and his group of tech bros comment in
real time and critique the keynote immediately afterward. To avoid
turning the keynote into a marathon Oscars telecast, Apple kept the
keynote to 2 hours and six minutes, with a good chunk reserved for the
vision Pro. The iOS segment seemed truncated and rushed to accommodate
the Vision Pro announcement and to cover major updates for the Mac and
the Apple Watch OS. In the presentation, the only blindness
interesting new feature was a big update to messages. A subsequent
announcement said a cool new feature will extract password
verification codes from messages and mail and put them into the
verification box in an app or website. Also, interactive widgets,
including live lock screen widgets will be coming in iOS 17, which was
long rumored. For some reason, Apple could not keep a lid on the
rumors this year so there were few surprises, unlike in other years.
With so many third parties, vendors, and contractors, it is now
virtually impossible to prevent everyone from talking.

Wall Street was hyped up. The stock popped 1.75 percent to reach a
new record high the morning of the keynote, but fell back as the
Vision Pro was revealed. The tech bros with Leo LA Porte were
astounded by the price tag and did not believe the technology was as
developed as Apple seemed to show. No one in the Video actually wore
the vision Pro during the keynote. The guys thought it was a cool,
nerdy technology without a specific end user purpose. They suggested
the headset will be the next status symbol like the iPhone in the late
2000s.
