RE: issues with uber update

2016-12-09 Thread Pablo Cesar Morales
It is because uber doesn't have your real location. It is the same problem that
I have. I have no way to know what is the current address for uber. Before I
was able to select my location in the same way how now we are able to select
destination. Like this it was easier and faster. We need to remember what is
the meaning of accessibility. Accessibility means easy access. A lot of people
believe that if someone after days of efforts is able to use an app, or a web
page. It means that that web page is accessible. No, while an app is difficult
to be use, it means that the level of inaccessibility is higher.
Now we have to type or current location, and when we are in winter, with gloves
and covering our face, it is no easy to type any address. These are the steps
back that the uber has done.

I always type in the address to pick me up, but I believe either Uber even maps
that incorrectly, or just uses whatever it gets anyways. In fact, last night,
the driver said that my pin showed up inside the building, not sure if it was
the correct one, as it was one on the wrong street, even with the right address
put in. The other not fun part was that the four minute ETA seemed to go on for
about 15-20 minutes, as I believe they're trying to do things more like the
taxis in accepting the next trip while the previous one is going, and me and
the previous passenger were on opposite sides of town, where it might actually
take that long. I was about to cancel and try again after a certain time, when
the eta finally started steadily going down, so I didn't do that. I wish it
would give the time when we requested, so we could know when 5 minutes late
after that first ETA is when we can then cancel fee free for that. I just
thought he was sitting around at first going in circles somewhere across town.

There are a few things about the most recent Uber update that I don't like.
But for the most part, I have figured out ways to work around a couple of my
issues. I'm definitely annoyed with the fact that it no longer tells you
what your current location is. So often, the GPS pan can be a few addresses,
or blocks off. Therefore, I just wind up typing in my location, which is
something that I did most of the time before the update anyway. I haven't
done so yet, but I'm planning to write to Uber to voice my concerns about
this most recent update.

What surprises me about this whole situation regarding Uber is that they
keep saying that they care about disabled riders, and make public showings
at conventions like the NFB convention. Also, i was under the understanding

Actually, the only other way to alert your driver that you are blind, or
visually impaired, is to send them a text message. However, I always call
instead of texting, mainly because I want to make sure they actually get the
message. I have had several drivers tell me that they would prefer a phone
call, over a text message because when they get a text message, in order for
them to read it, they have to switch from their GPS screen. For the most
part, I really haven't had any issues with anyone not being very helpful,
when they pick me up. I always make that call to tell them about my
blindness immediately after they receive my trip.

With respect to finding a phone number, I think many people don't realize that
if you do a Google search starting with "Phone number for" followed by what you
are looking for you often find the number displayed at the very top of the

I am going to give an example below using Plantronics since I had to contact

April and I can only use it for playback, the microphones seem to be not
working any more. This has been going on for months, but I just haven't taken
the time to contact them until yesterday. The response by the way was quite
satisfactory, the girl I spoke with made me do a reset of the headset to test

below is what Google gave me and it was spot on and the direct number for their
customer sevice:

Phone number for Plantronics customer service
1 (800) 544-4660

Try this: Phone number for Apple Accessibility support
Here it didn't give me the number before all search results, but the third
search result contained this without even going into it:
Beats support: (800) 442‑4000 (U.S.) or see all worldwide support telephone
numbers.
If you have a disability, such as a vision, hearing or physical impairment,
call (877) 204-3930 for direct access to Apple representatives who are trained
in providing support using accessibility services.

Google searches are very powerful and are getting more so as time goes by. I
can only encourage anybody who is looking for anything to try it.
Don't hesitate to use very ordinary language like "I want to know the 5 largest
countries in the world by population" which will not list the countries in the
search results, but it gives you plenty of articles mostly with the top 10 so
it definitely finds what you are looking for.

I've had no particular issues with booking rides and/or contacting drivers et

receipts for quite some time, the reason being that in the app's settings for
my account, my e-mail address is incorrect. So I edited the e-mail address and
clicked "Save", and it then asked me for a password, which I've forgotten and
can't find it written down anywhere. Both in the app and on the Uber web site,
their password recovery process is unsatisfactory; in both cases I'm asked for
my mobile number, and there's another text entry field which is unlabeled so I
don't know what's required. Furthermore, I can't seem to find any support

by this and just a tad bit annoyed. Thanks in advance.

Hi
I've had no particular issues with booking rides and/or contacting drivers et
cetera with the most recent Uber updates. However, I haven't been getting Uber
receipts for quite some time, the reason being that in the app's settings for
my account, my e-mail address is incorrect.
Furthermore, I can't seem to find any support
number that I can call. Is there such a thing? What's the easiest way to fix my
e-mail address on record and recover my password or set a new one? I'm puzzled
by this and just a tad bit annoyed. Thanks in advance.

For the most part,
I really haven't had any issues with anyone not being very helpful, when they
pick me up. I always make that call to tell them about my blindness immediately
after they receive my trip.

2016-12-08 Thread Kevin Thompson
There are a few things about the most recent Uber update that I don't like. But
for the most part, I have figured out ways to work around a couple of my
issues. I'm definitely annoyed with the fact that it no longer tells you what
your current location is. So often, the GPS pan can be a few addresses, or
blocks off. Therefore, I just wind up typing in my location, which is something
that I did most of the time before the update anyway. I haven't done so yet,
but I'm planning to write to Uber to voice my concerns about this most recent
update.

Re: issues with uber update

2016-12-08 Thread regina alvarado

I do not have to worry about this as we do not have uber drivers in Lakeland.
However, on the Bay news last night there was a story that Uber is collecting
information about their riders such as their location or something. I could not
hear the speech very well, no hearing aids in, but I did hear people are really
getting angry at the invasion of privacy. Has anyone heard about this? Perhaps
their new policy has muckf up the app?

RE: issues with uber update

2016-12-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Pablo,

Not sure why you are not getting better results. I just asked SIRI "What is my
current location and it told me I was at 3635 14th Avenue. I am in my house but
at the back of the house and my address is 3623 14th Avenue, 3635 is actually
my neighbour, but the property is 50 feet wide and I'm in the middle so from my
property to his it's only 25 or 30 feet.

I then opened Blindsquare and selected te "My Location". Blind Square told me
correctly I was at 3623 14th Avenue. When I checked the GPS Info page I am
getting accuracy of 5 metres and that is as I am in the bedroom inside my
single family home.
Blind Square is giving me my elevation as 500 metres which converts to 1,640
feet and that is pretty much dead on. I know for a fact that our local airport
which is about 3 or 4 miles away as the crow flies is 522 metres or 1,712 feet.
When you drive there it isn't much of an elevation difference, but you go up a
very slight hill going out of town so I think the difference of about 80 feet
is about right.

Anyhow, just my obsrvations, whenever I use Blind Square or Seeing Eye which
give you GPS accuracy it rarely is more than 10 metres off and very often it is
5 metres.

Sieghard

months. Here where I live, is no huge buildings, My building Is the highest

Why maps or even google maps always says that I am no where I am?
I never has seen any gps with that range of accuracy, sorry, but I never has

I can't speak for the Uber app or the service as it is only available in a few
cities in Canada, but as far as GPS goes it should be accurate enough for this
purpose. Provided you have a good view of the sky and aren't in a building or a
super-narrow area surrounded by high-rise buildings GPS accuracy should be 5
meters (about 16 feet) or for sure it should be 10 metres (about 32 feet). This
mya not be good enough to find an exact spot, but good enough for most uses.

as two blocks away from where I actually was.

Sorry, but it is no what is happening around the world with GPS. Myself as
well uber drivers all the time are hearing wrong indications through the
GPS. For some reason uber has been hiring different satilite serveces in the
last months. Here where I live, is no huge buildings, My building Is the
highest building, and it has 3 floors. So,

Why my Uber app says that I am 2 streets down?
Why maps or even google maps always says that I am no where I am?
I never has seen any gps with that range of accuracy, sorry, but I never has
seen one like that.
Here the drivers are always complaining about the guidance that the UBER
satilite app is giving to tthem.

I can't speak for the Uber app or the service as it is only available in a
few cities in Canada, but as far as GPS goes it should be accurate enough
for this purpose. Provided you have a good view of the sky and aren't in a
building or a super-narrow area surrounded by high-rise buildings GPS
accuracy should be 5 meters (about 16 feet) or for sure it should be 10
metres (about 32 feet). This mya not be good enough to find an exact spot,
but good enough for most uses.

After the driver accepts a trip request, you can double-tap "contact driver".
Then you can either call the driver or send a text message.

I highly doubt we will see driverless cars out in the public as a every day

I myself use UBER constently and have had no problems with it.
I also have had to make comments about certain drivers as well with no

Re: issues with uber update

2016-12-07 Thread Brian Albriton
Hi, Scott. It is possible you have your original login under an email
address. As far as the app over all, I have had issues for a couple of
months with submitting comments with a four star rating or less. There
is no button to submit the comment. I only find this button available
if I give five-star rating.
There are similar problems with submitting complaints to support within the app.

Well, if I can't see it it could be 10 feet away and it is the same issue. If I
am somewhere and order a cab I usually tell dispatch that I am visually
impaired and have a guide dog and to please let the driver know they may need

I can't speak for the Uber app or the service as it is only available in a few
cities in Canada, but as far as GPS goes it should be accurate enough for this
purpose. Provided you have a good view of the sky and aren't in a building or a
super-narrow area surrounded by high-rise buildings GPS accuracy should be 5
meters (about 16 feet) or for sure it should be 10 metres (about 32 feet). This
mya not be good enough to find an exact spot, but good enough for most uses.

I have been getting difficulties with uber since more than one month ago.
Before I was able to select my pick up in a list of choices, now I have to find
where I am. The current position doesn't work very well, because we know that
GPS are no so accurate. Moreover before I had more control on the app, but in
the last updates uber has done a lot of steps back.

I didn't have any difficulty with this latest update which I downloaded just
now. So I would recommend deleting and reinstalling it. It logged in fine for
me.
