Cannot find a setting? Listen to Sieghard
Sieghard has often reminded us how to find a setting on our own when we are unsure of where it lives in the increasing number of settings on the iPhone. I forget to remind people to do this, which is really the best thing to do. This teaches you how to fish, rather than just giving you the fish. Open settings. At the very top you hear, Settings Heading. The next item is a search field. Double tap on that and enter some part of the setting name you are looking for and 99 times out of 100, if not 100 times out of 100, you will find the setting and by double tapping on the result, you are right where you need to be to adjust it however you wish. It's www.bvoutdoors.com, the "BV" stands for "Bulkley Valley" our area up here in northwestern British Columbia. You mightt want to wait a week or so, along with the change to a new point of sale system my website will also get a facelift and then of course it will be connected to our new point of sale system which should make for almost real-time inventory refreshing, currently it's only updated every 30 minutes. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Donna Casteen Sent: Saturday, January 16, 2021 4:15 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Sieghard. Re: Sieghard.
Marty: I have the same problem. Some of the messages go to spam, but not all. I am using WLM, but the messages are stopped at my Comcast server before they reach WLM. The Comcast/xfinity website is incredibly inaccessible, so need sighted help to even access the spam folder. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Re: Sieghard.
The last email from Sieghard I have here is dated the 11th Jan. The issued could be gmail treating emails that originated from certain ISP's as spam , as it's quite aggressive in that regard when it doesn't like the originating ISP's outgoing mail server. -Original Message- From: Marty Hutchings Sent: Saturday, January 16, 2021 1:32 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Sieghard. RE: Sieghard- Changing my Apple ID
Hello Donna, My Apple Id email used to be siegh...@hotmail.ca and I used this email address for several years after I first got my iPhone and purchased dozens of as underit. When outlook.com email addresses became available I signed up for an email address with that domain and gradually switched everything over to that email address including my Apple Id and I then have been purchasing apps with that Apple Id ever since. Now when I redownload old apps or get updates for them they always work, I never ever had to enter my old email address and password for this. I assume what you did is sign up for a second Apple Id which you now use instead of changing your Apple Id email and this is why you still need to use both Apple Id's. If I sign in at AppleId.apple.com and click on "Edit Account", I see the following information: SieghardWeitzel Your Apple ID is ***@outlook.com (my email address, it does show the full address, but it's not one I will share here) I can then see the following: Change Apple ID… button menu collapsed menu Enter a new email address to use as your Apple ID: Edit Required, if I expand this I get this: Enter a new email address to use as your Apple ID: Edit Required This is an edit field where I could now enter the new email I want to use as my Apple Id, once I do and click Continue this email becomes my new Apple Id email and all previously purchased apps will be associated with it as will any I purchase going forward. Hi,Go into settings and double tap on your name. then flick to name emails and phonenumbers and addresses and double tap. now flick past your email and phone number and hit edit. now flick to add email or phone number and double tap. when the popup comes up hit email. now it will ask you to enter your email address. once you enter it, you will have to enter a passcode which will be sent to that email. after you enter it you want to focus on your old email address and flick down to delete and double tap. it will tell you that you have to enter a new email address. hit ok and you will be at the enter email screen. you may have to enter another pascode before your Apple ID is changed. sent from the iPhone 11 Pro > On Dec 28, 2020, at 12:18 PM, Donna Casteen wrote: > > Sieghard, > > I didn’t say that apps purchased with the old Apple ID would be inaccessible. > All apps purchased with the old Apple ID will definitely continue to work as > they currently do. And just in case this is something you didn't know, India is part of the Commonwealth just as Canada, Australia, Pakistan, Nigeria and other countries are so maybe it would be possible for somebody from a Commonwealth country where there is no guide dog school to apply to a guide dog school in another Commonwealth country and be accepted to get a dog. I am not saying this is so, but it is certainly possible. Since nobody explained to Kiruna what the usual process is to get a guide dog, I will do so in general terms. You apply to a guide dog school, if it is the first time you get a dog from them they typically would visit you where you live, they would want to see your home and where you work (if you work) and they would also want to see you walk around with a cane or your previous guide dog if you currently have one to assess your mobility skills and so on. If they accept you, they will at some point let you know when you can get a dog, some schools have fairly long waiting lists. Once you get the date you have to go to the school for typically a 3-week training course where you get to know your dog and your dog gets to know you. Walking with a guide dog requires training just as walking with a cane does and if you have never had a dog you have to of course learn how to care for the dog, this includes grooming, feeding and picking up the dog poop in a little plastic bag; I know, sounds shitty, but I shit you not. After your course you get to take your dog home, some schools may also send a guide dog trainer home with you to do some more training in your own environment or some schools may ask you to come for a shorter course at the school and then you do more one-on-one training in your own city/town. In rare cases a trainer may even come to you and do the entire training with you in your city/town, but I think most schools would need a good reason to do this. Most schools also like to follow up with you on an annual bases and they may send a trainer to do a walk with you and evaluate how things are going. Keep in mind that when you get a dog that dog is not yours. I assume all schools are the same in this respect, but should you not care for the dog properly they do have the right to take it away from you and I have heard of a few cases where this was done. As for the cost to train a dog, including breeding programs, puppy raising, training and after-care it is I believe around $30,000 or $35,000 US so actually buying a guide dog is not something most people could afford if the schools weren't not for profit organizations who are financed from donations, fund raising events, money bequeathed to them and so on. Hi Sieghard just a quick thought while you were away as far as I am concerned the emails were quiet, but now that you are back we are back to quite a few messages. I hope you had a good holiday and your maths is absulutely correct. keep smiling Janet -Original Message- From: Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Tuesday, March 26, 2019 3:15 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Apple Card announcement today and thoughts of the group Sorry, Carolyn, I have to impart a little math lesson here. "Percent" means "per hundred" which is why 3% means 3 per hundred. Therefore, 3% on $360 is $10.80 and not $108, $108 would be 30% of $360. My wife and I already spend around $30 per month on Apple stuff, mostly in-app purchases but also Apple Music, and being guaranteed to get 3% of that back in the form of Apple Cash does peek my interest. $30 per month is not much, but $360 per year is, and getting a percentage back from Apple related purchases or Apple Pay may be notable. They did not say, and I'm hoping it is addressed in one of the many articles yet to come, if it will be possible to transfer the Daily Cash as they called it, or reward money, from one's Apple Cash allotment to one's bank account. I was also interested in the physical Apple Card they mentioned, and that there will not be a 3 digit security code on the card itself. I wonder how this will work with stores and banks. Time will tell I suppose. Wayne On 3/25/19, pegkan...@gmail.com wrote: My feeling is, I do not need any more credit cards and would not be interested in the least. I'll say up front that my interest in credit cards and similar financial vehicles is first their widespread acceptance at the places I hsop and second the amount of rewards I'm able to earn when using them. To recap the rewards paid by the new Apple Card: 1. Items purchased directly from Apple using the card earn 3% rewards. 2. Items purchased from other places using the card with ApplePay earn 2% rewards. 3. Items purchased using the physical Apple Card without ApplePay earn 1% rewards. I'm pretty sure I've stated the above correctly but please chime in if your understanding is different. I know we have members from all over the world but my experience in the USA with ApplePay hasn't been what I'd call wide acceptance. In fact, Since ApplePay has existed, I've only been able to use it a handful of times at either a McDonald's or Walgreens. So while I agree that 2% rewards for use of the Apple Card is pretty generous, I'm not convinced it will be realizable at the places I shop unless ApplePay becomes accepted in a lot more places than it currently is. I'm curious what others on the list think about the Apple Card. I understand about companies needing to expand their product offerings in order to generate more revenue but I can't say Apple's efforts to expand into News, media entertainment production, and financial services generates a feeling of confidence for me. To Sieghard re the iTunes Library
Hi Sieghard, In a previous message, you wrote, In the same way, if you for example add a song that is on an external USB hard drive to your iTunes music library and then disconnect the drive, the song can't be played any more. If you press enter on the song in your iTunes library the program is looking for your external drive and if it can't find it it will show it as a broken link. Now, having said all that, all you have to do to add a song or a bunch of songs from a folder to your iTunes library is to go to the File menu and choose ither to Add File or Add Folder. This will open a fairly familiar Windows dialogue box where you can browse to your song or the folder where your songs are, then activate the Select button and after a moment you hear the iTunes tri-tone and at that point your song or songs should be available in your library. Is there a way to copy a song or folder from an external hard drive that will not result in the broken link that you discussed in this message? RE: To Sieghard re the iTunes Library
Hi Suzanne, Yes, all you have to do is make sure you physically copy the song to your local hard drive. I am making an assumption that you are using Windows 7 and your iTunes folder is in the default location, also that your Windows user name is Suzanne. So, your iTunes Media Folder is at this location: C:\users\suzanne\music\iTunes\iTunes Media In this iTunes Media folder is a folder for Music, if there is not you can create it. I usually have my songs grouped by artist and album, so to use the Dire Straits example with the Love Over Gold album and the song Telegraph Road I would have a folder in music called Dire Straits, in there is a subfolder Love over Gold for the album and in this subfolder are the songs of the album starting with Telegraph Road. Once the song is there you can just go to File, Add Folder and browse to the iTunes Media\music folder, I wouldn't even browse to any further subfolders because if you select the Music folder it will anything new you added. There is also a setting in iTunes under Preferences and the Advanced tab called Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to library. It's a checkbox and unchecked by default. If you check this then any time you add a song or songs from an external drive to your iTunes library via the File/Add File or File/Add Folder options the song or songs are also physically copied into the Music folder in iTunes Media. I have only a 240 Gb Solid State Drive in my laptop and while I actually do keep my approx. 26 Gb music collection on it, somebody who uses a smaller Solid State Drive and who has a really large music collection may not want to do that. Keep in mind that if you do check this box other media types will also be copied, so if, for example, you have the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy on an external drive (it is over 30 Gb in HD format) then if you added these to your library they would get copied into the Movies folder in iTunes Media. Is there a way to copy a song or folder from an external hard drive that will not result in the broken link that you discussed in this message? where is iTunes folder?, to Sieghard
Hi Sieghard. Reading your answer to Keith, I tryed to find the iTunes folder in windows 7, but it is not where should be. That I am trying to do, is copy the whole library that I have in a computer with windows xp, and move all this information to a new iTunes that I installed for the first time 5 min ago.I don't know if just copying the library, or the whole iTunes folder, I will have the copy of apps, movies, music and all that I have in my old xp. What is the right way to move a library from windows xp, to windows 7? Thanks in advance. Pablo -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. RE: where is iTunes folder?, to Sieghard
Hi Pablo, If you installed iTunes on a Windows 7 machine and accepted the default settings, the iTunes folder is in the Music folder. The Music folder, of course, is in your user folder just as Documents and Pictures would be. If you open the iTunes folder you will find the subfolder iTunes Media and this is where all the media subfolders are, e.g. audio books, music, mobile applications etc. If your iTunes folder is not in Music you might want to open iTunes and go to Edit, Preferences and then go to the Advanced section. Here the first thing you see is the location of your iTunes Media folder and this is where, if you want, you can change said location. I am not an expert when it comes to migrating you riTunes library from an XP system to a new Windows 7 computer. However, I believe after you install iTunes, all you have to do is copy the old iTunes Media folder into the iTunes folder on the new computer, tell Windows to replace it if it asks. I would do this with iTunes closed and after you copy it, open iTunes and see if your music and all the other stuff shows up. If not just go to File and Add Folder to Library. Browse to the iTunes Media folder and then choose Select, this should add everything it finds in that folder to the various libraries. If I am out to lunch on any of this I hope somebody else will correct me and explain the proper way to do this.
