I really suspect that one of the recent YouTube updates triggered this behavior.
Where on Earth do you go to report this to Google?

I've never found a clear way to do that. I also have not put a lot of energy
into it, I have to admit.

It's not clear to me if this is an issue with the Youtube app or IOS 13.7. The
fact that it stopped working when upgrading to IOS 13.7 is a good clue, but
that doesn't mean that this upgrade didn't just expose something Google was
doing wrong in the Youtube app. I'd start by reporting this to Google, which I
just did, but I'd encourage others to do it as well.

Note that this doesn't seem to be just because this is a Google app or that
there's some feud going on between Apple and Google, since the youtube Music
app works just fine with Siri.

Re: Apple's Siri & YouTube MobileApp & iOS13

2020-09-05 Thread Mary Otten
I have to agree with richard here. This feature definitely worked in iOS 13.
It’s also been working in the beta of 14. But I think Google broke something
with one of their many updates for which they never say what they actually do.
So here’s hoping the next update fixes it. From whatever source. My shortcut to
open my YouTube subscriptions still works on both iOS 13 and 14.

I think we should leave it to Apple and Google to assign responsibility.
I know it worked early in iOS 13 so I personally cannot say its Apple's fault
since Google updates Youtube as often as some people bathe.

RE: Apple's Siri & YouTube MobileApp & iOS13

2020-09-05 Thread Robin
It's "Clear" to me, that The Responsibility lies
with Apple, as Apple's Siri does Open Google's
YouTube MobileApp on iOS12, but Doesn't on iOS13,
& I "know" this For a Fact, as I have
2 iOSDevices: an XS MAX & an 11PRO. The XS MAX
is on iOS12 & the 11PRO is on iOS13.

&
it's Not Apple's iOS13.7, as My 11PRO is on
iOS13.6.1, & Apple's Siri doesn't Open Google's
YouTube MobileApp, but Apple's Siri does Open
Google's YouTube MobileApp on My XS MAX

It's not clear to me if this is an issue with
the Youtube app or IOS 13.7. The fact that it
stopped working when upgrading to IOS 13.7 is a
good clue, but that doesn't mean that this
upgrade didn't just expose something Google was
doing wrong in the Youtube app. I'd start by
reporting this to Google, which I just did, but
I'd encourage others to do it as well.

Note that this doesn't seem to be just because
this is a Google app or that there's some feud
going on between Apple and Google, since the
youtube Music app works just fine with Siri.

RE: Apple's Siri & YouTube MobileApp & iOS13

2020-09-05 Thread Richard Turner

What is the point of using Siri to open apps. I never ever use this feature of
Siri. For some reason ever since my iPhone turned Traitor and updated on me,
Siri hasn't worked all that well. I hope things settle down when IOS 14 comes

there isn't much left of my 256 gigs, since so much of it is taken up with

RE: Apple's Siri & YouTube MobileApp & iOS13

2020-09-05 Thread chaltain
Hmm, I wonder why you think 90% of the people on this list don't bother to
report issues to Apple. I see a lot of people state they've reported issues to
Apple and I've even seen people post their responses from Apple on this list.
Just because not everyone says they've reported an issue to Apple with every
post they make to this list doesn't mean they aren't reporting things to Apple.
I'm all for the occasional gentle reminder but this assumption that 90% of us
are slackers is a bit off putting.

RE: Apple's Siri & YouTube MobileApp & iOS13

2020-09-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Joshua,

You have a few ways you can launch an app on your iPhone:

1. You can place focus on it on the screen where it's located and double
tap.

2. You can access handwriting in your rotor and type each letter of the
app name and double tap on it when it has focus in the results list.

3. Ask Siri to open it.

When you have 14 screens of apps as I do on my iPhone, I promise you that
asking Siri to open the app is by far and away the fastest of the above methods.

The really nice thing about these devices is that they offer multiple ways to
accomplish the same task and you can choose the one that works best for you. I
also think it's a good idea to be familiar with the multiple ways in case your
needs change at some point.

What is the point of using Siri to open apps. I never ever use this feature of
Siri. For some reason ever since my iPhone turned Traitor and updated on me,
Siri hasn't worked all that well. I hope things settle down when IOS 14 comes
out. Also, I suppose, I should really delete some books off my iPhone, as
there isn't much left of my 256 gigs, since so much of it is taken up with
audio books from both bard, and now audible.

Since it still Works on Apple's iOS12, (I Think) the Problem/Issue lies

iOS: More Specifically; Apple's iOS13.

Experienced on Both iOS12 as well as iOS13, & this is "why" (I Believe)

RE: Apple's Siri & YouTube MobileApp & iOS13

2020-09-04 Thread Robin
Since it still Works on Apple's iOS12,
(I Think) the Problem/Issue lies with Apple's
iOS: More Specifically; Apple's iOS13.

&
MyReasoning for this is: Recently,
Google PushedOut an Update to its YouTube
MobileApp, which
GreatlyReduced the Volume/Sound
when OpeningUp the YouTube MobileApp, & this
Issue/Problem was Experienced on Both iOS12 as
well as iOS13, & this is "why" (I Believe)
this Time, the Fault lies with Apple & its iOS updates (iOS13)

Yes, I just tried it and Siri said "YouTube hasn't added support for that with

Must have been a change in either 13.7 or the latest YouTube update.

Re: Siri, YouTube

2016-06-08 Thread Deidre Muccio
That is a very complicated question for Siri. You might've done better to add
something more general like give me the names of a few towns in New Zealand in
a certain region and specify that region and then men maybe if you're lucky she
would come up with a list of names or sent you to a website about all about New
Zealand and that particular region you are funny though. In fact if you were to
ask Siri how funny you were or if you were funny see what she might have to say
if she had a memory about the kinds of questions you asked then she might
actually have something clever to say.

Re: Siri, YouTube

2016-06-07 Thread Jewel
I have just done that and speaking as clearly as I could, I asked Siri to:
"Search Google for the spelling of the New Zealand town Kaiteretere"
[pronounced Kie Terry Terry].
what returned was "Cannot find a New Zealand town called can I titty titty" so
I tried again adding,
this time, that it was a Maori name. The answer came back: "Cannot find a New
Zealand town called
Kite Titty Titty.
Now I thought that being told that it was a Maori word would have told the
search engine that the
word could not have a Y in it, let alone 2, as the Maori language does not
contain that letter.
I ha'e ma doots that a paper letter addressed to Can I Titty Titty would have
been delivered to any
letterbox in Kaiteretere.

We do have a dairy-farming area called Waikikamukau[ pronounced why kick a moo
cow" which has always
struck me as rather apt, given the nature of the region, and the answer to the
question could be: "
because it deserved it!"

Google is quite good at isolating phonymns rather than spellings, and does a
good line in context quite often. This as distinct
from trying to reverse-TTS (STT) to reproduce a written phrase,... whichit

This scenario more than explains some of siri's greatest bloopers.

Karen: is that Siri or voice-over? can also make a right hash of reading. I
play Sporcle's Word
Ladder game a lot, and have found that, for me at least, it is essential to
flick my way through a
clue to ascertain if what voice-over/Siri seemed to be saying was, in point of
fact, the clue, and,
very often, it was nowhere near it.

Yes, it does get things wrong although I assume if you had perfect
pronunciation and clear speech
there wouldn't be many mistakes. If, for example, I dictate in German which is
my first language it
is almost perfect, but then again German spelling is also a lot simpler than
English spelling since
typically there aren't two or sometimes maybe even 3 different ways to spell
certain words as in
English. For example, "there" and "their", "hear" and "here", "bear" and "bare"
etc. Anyhow, I did
say " except for any potential mistakes" and I definitely don't want to defend

sometimes it really does interpret what you say in interesting ways and I think
we all hope for
major improvements both with dictation and especially with what queries SIRI
can answer and how it
can handle more compound queries.

I guess what I was noticing is that when I dictate a query in the search field

the performance so much less able to recognize the nature of the information I

RE: Siri, YouTube

2016-06-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, it does get things wrong although I assume if you had perfect
pronunciation and clear speech there wouldn't be many mistakes. If, for
example, I dictate in German which is my first language it is almost perfect,
but then again German spelling is also a lot simpler than English spelling
since typically there aren't two or sometimes maybe even 3 different ways to
spell certain words as in English. For example, "there" and "their", "hear" and
"here", "bear" and "bare" etc. Anyhow, I did say " except for any potential
mistakes" and I definitely don't want to defend SIRI because sometimes it
really does interpret what you say in interesting ways and I think we all hope
for major improvements both with dictation and especially with what queries
SIRI can answer and how it can handle more compound queries.

Regards,
Sieghard

OK, I understand all this, but I guess my question is a little out there since
you don't seem to understand what I'm asking. Or nobody else knows what I'm
asking either! I just don't know why Siri's performance is so miserable at
times when asking her to look something up or find something or answer a
question. On the contrary when I plug something into a search engine I get far
better results. I suppose these are two different systems of gathering

Sorry if I am not understanding the question, but what does Youtube have to do

it is not a general search engine like Google or Bing.
